Semacode/Datamatrix barcodes are very robust to mangling, first of all most matrix's far left and bottom lines are solid black, i think this is a verification of the datamatrix area, as you can cluster more matrixes together to store more text/info.

Also the chances of having a barcode that decodes to www.perplexcity.com AND with a slight change decode to something that makes sense.... talking in maths ur looking at billions to one Smile

Maybe you've got a 1 in a value of e chance... now wouldn't that be coincidental...?

or not. Smile

Yeah I agree and have said as much (as well as others). When I originally asked someone to do it, I knew the chances were slim to nil, but also knew naught of semacode.

More farfetched theories brought to you by yours truly....

The text on the postcard looks sort of stilted to me, almost as if it were a telegram rather than a postcard. It also looks broken in places it need not be.

Quote:
My friends -

I need your help.
cube - missing.
Presumed stolen.
Not enough room (there is room here to continue this sentence)
to explain here.
Too risky.
Your assistance
will be rewarded.
More contact to (why is "follow" on the next line? Plenty of room here)
follow - stay alert.
Yours in hope,

Sente

Also notice the plentiful use of unneccessary (imo) hyphens and periods?

Dots and Dashes? Telegram type sentence structure? Possible Morse?

I tried a few different things, but the most promising timewaster was Odd and Even letter counts. Came up with line by line, including salutation and signature:

EO
OEEE
EO
EE
OEE
EOE
OO
EE
EEE
EOE
EEO
OEE
O

With Even = Dot and Odd = Dash, it translates to:

.- -... .- .. -.. .-. -- .. ... .-. ..- -.. -
"ABAIDRMISRUDT"

Without salutation and signature: "BAIDRMISRUD"

Now if you take the 2 dashes within the text as as spacers, given the fact that it would look funny to have a single word on a single line (and in this theory they are using lines as letter spacers)....it looks like this instead:

.- -... . - .. -.. .-. -- .. ... .-. . .- -.. -
"ABETIDRMISREADT"

It looks promising to me......"ABET"....."MISREAD"

Using the opposite (Even = Dash and Odd = Dot, it yields:

-. .--- -. -- .-- -.- .. -- --- -.- --. .-- .
"NJNMWKIMOKGWE"

Without salutation and signature: "JNMWKIMOKGW"

With the 2 dashes in the text as "spacers": "NJTEMWKIMOKTNWE"

Not nearly as promising, but hey do I get points for plugging?

Wink

Very observant on your part, but the skeptic in me says that they kept the text within a tiny space to make sure it would fit when they Photoshopped it onto the card. There's about a 50/50 chance that they wrote on an actual postcard. I'd check again and see what it looks like they did, but the images on the Wiki seem to be down. Still, good thinking. I wouldn't have noticed.

Whoops! updated the Wiki to the most recent version and its b0rked a few things, including not copying the images over to the new version Smile

(should be fixed now, just gotta clear the page cache).

I don't neccessarily think the Morse theory is correct, but I don't think that it was written that way for PhotoShopping spatial puposes. There's something there....I feel it in me bones! Wink

I think if they were that concerned about width, they would have been just as concerned about heighth and the available space for Sente's signature.....it looks suspicious to me, and the short, bursty type dialogue (not that I expected a 500 word essay) is suspect as well.

Anyway, I'm bored to tears and it feels almost like this thing should have started....so maybe it's wishful thinking....

Very Happy

Whoops, that was me....

Anyway, I also think that the name of the cube is out there for us to find....somewhere. The "Marchant" text graphic page links directly from the blacked out word just prior to "CUBE" in Sente's letter. So I think that the blacked out word has something to do with Marchant, his quote, and/or the errorlog dialogue. They gals talk about gettig some fab new shoes, and this coupled with the fact that marchant is an early bastardization of merchant.....maybe it's some type of acquisition cube. There is a merchantcube.com (but it's Korean.....lol).
