I keep logging in and trying to post or edit the above, but keep getting booted...

Anyway, if these cards are mass produced (as oneliiivewire said) could those "artifacts" be from the printing process - rollers or something?

In this pic I've attached, what are the things I've circled? I understand a bit about image artifacts, but are they always so defined? Someone with knowledge please explain....

I colored them red, just to make them easier to see....and there are more than the ones I've circled...

Ugh - my connection timed out and I'm having to type all this again. First up, how did you manage to bring those artifacts up? Knowing that will give us a better idea where they've come from. Without that information I'm still prepared to take a guess though - it could have been printing as you said, but it's more likely that when the card was scanned and the scan was then compressed to a jpeg the artifacts showed up then. It's normal for this to happen.

Now if you take the 2 dashes within the text as as spacers, given the fact that it would look funny to have a single word on a single line (and in this theory they are using lines as letter spacers)....it looks like this instead:

.- -... . - .. -.. .-. -- .. ... .-. . .- -.. -
"ABETIDRMISREADT"

It looks promising to me......"ABET"....."MISREAD"

Using the opposite (Even = Dash and Odd = Dot, it yields:

-. .--- -. -- .-- -.- .. -- --- -.- --. .-- .
"NJNMWKIMOKGWE"

Without salutation and signature: "JNMWKIMOKGW"

With the 2 dashes in the text as "spacers": "NJTEMWKIMOKTNWE"

Not nearly as promising, but hey do I get points for plugging?

Try ROTing your results to see if you get anything that looks promising and I'll happily give you plugging points Smile .

Lastly, it's been mentioned several times before; AADAA is just the start of the ciphertext from Cryptonomicon. The guitar chords definitely aren't braille and while it's possible that the chords could still mean something we don't know for sure that they're guitar chords - same chords can be played in a very different way on tons of other instruments such as violins, pianos etc. Anyway, I'm willing to bet that for the PMs to produce a clue that has any of the greater depth than we initially see (in this case more than just the reference to the book) they would have to make the clue themselves. Wasn't AADAA back in the pre-pre-game anyway? Personally I don't think it has any relevance, at least at the moment (though I would be happy to be proved wrong).

I just opened it in Paint and "fill colored" the entire card.
When I first saw them.....they reminded me of those little dots in the page title of ProjectSyzygy site (See Here), or maybe braille....but there's not much variation (which tell me it's nothing) but I thought they were too well defined for "artifacts".

On a side note, what happened to Kristen (the gal who got the stack of cards), she said she was "hot on the trail" and anyone who goes all over town putting the cards under black light, red lens, green lens, backlighting them with high-powered opthalmologist's equipment- THE WORKS.....would be a great asset to this group, but she hasn't been back since the day after she joined.

Wink

Maybe it's Uni exam time (been so long I can't remember)...

Just a bit of random association, but I was getting my onboard pass for a flight while reading this and noticed how remarkably similar the generally used fonts for flight numbers was to the font used for 2210. Also there is always semacode nearby a flight number on a boarding pass, also wasn't the postcards found in an airport? Too many pages to findout where all of them were found. Anyway hope this leads somewhere.

I thought it was kinda against the rules for PMs to do that, especially since we'd already found the cards before Kristen showed up here.

If I'm not mistaken, you're asking which airports the cards were in. (Among other things that I don't have answers for.) Here's what the Wiki says: "Postcard found in Bologna Airport, Chapel Hill, NC, and Cambridge, England."

Yahbut....it's a little odd that she joined on Dec 10, made 3 posts about the card, made sure there was a decent scanned version available, and hasn't been back since Dec11.

Now that in itself means nothing....but just the way she at first said that she got the cards from a friend, in the next post she says "Let's just say they were given to me" and in the 3rd that they were left at a table she was studying at by someone unknown to her. Why not just say so in the beginning?

She says she's "hot on the trail" and that she "went all over town putting them under black light, red lens, green lens, backlighting them with high-powered opthalmologist's equipment- THE WORKS"

For someone so eager, I would have thought she'd be knee deep in this by now.

And where does one get access to high-powered opthalmologist's equipment anyway.....lol

I also find it interesting that she says "she flew all over the back side of the card" given that the first ones were found in airports. Strange terminology to me, maybe not to others.....

Wink

I've been suspecting the same thing for a while (especially when she disappeared after posting the scans). Maybe she's actually "MC" Wink

I'll grant you that it is a little suspicious. Kinda annoyed that I didn't pick up on this myself.....

Has someone who posts in a forum been part of an ARG without the players knowing in past games?
