sudden thought hit me. point your key. semacode. coorporate sponsored game thats employing a buncha people, registering domains left and right, producing movies, printing postcards.

the key is a pda like device, sort of a wonder gadget, capable of connecting to teh web, and perhaps to a propriatary aolish network. some of the people involved will win them free sent to them, and some of the puzzles will then revolve around those few people. just a thought.

PalmOS is releasing PalmOS for Linux (its a PalmOS system that runs on top of Linux PDAs, so you get the best of both worlds, according to PalmOS. It might also have to do with the fact that PalmOS' microkernel is incapable of performing multitasking, they didn't buy a license from the microkernel manufacturer to do multitasking).

Ok, if this thing is a wonder gadget, its going to need to have global release, or massive Western World/Asiatic distribution. Why? The game is global. How do we get in, if say... The product is only available in the UK?

There's supposedly financial motivation for this game. Limiting it like that would remove the ability to play, let alone win, for several continents. That might generate bad press.

Oh, and PDAs are expensive. Look at the PSP, which is a glorified Sony Clie.

The Case for Apple

    1) The quote "change the world", used in the initial flash was from Steve Jobs (Apple) to John Sculley (Pepsi) in 1984.
    2) Apple computers used to load with a splash screen which said "Hello World".
    3) The initial flash featured a Mac Computer.
    4) Apple once made the G4 Cube.
    5) Microsoft were behind ILB, a huge success, could Apple be trying their own?
    6) Adrian and co. mentioned an "Unusual Client". Apple could be considered unusual and often innovative (see next point).
    7) Given the success of the iPod, another 'unusual' venture may well be in the works for Apple. Additionally, iPod's success has led to doubling of share value. They are rolling in it.
Cool Finally, the long and drawn out start of PS, could be accounted for through product development ties.

So there you have it, more than just coincidence, surely?

Maybe u should consider that maybe the PMs are mac-heads? or they're using a professional design company who mostly work with macs? Smile

Most online 'graphic arts' designers I've encountered (in N years of working in the computer technology trade) are avowed Mac devotees. Just why this is I'm not sure...I think it goes back to the DOS days and Apple's GUI was less intimidating to the techno-averse...

Kinda like computers for dummies... Twisted Evil

OTOH, they did help usher in the change from the command line obscurity as geek job security era... Wink

I think its more cause Photoshop was the most powerful graphics package out there, and it was MacOS only like most Adobe products originally... Same with Quark iirc...

ok this may sound very far fetched, and it probably is, but i was just thinking, what if a church/religious organisation was one of the backers of this arg, i mean you can't get more unusual then that...

anway, i had this idea since i was at church a couple of hours ago, and was just pondering...

i mean, the cube seems to be jesus christ's counterpart in their dimension...

anway, this was probably the speciest spec, anyone has posted...but hey...i could be right............

or maybe not Wink

SuperSPEC!

[CompletelyOffTheWall SPEC]

What if...the 'unusual client' is a faction of ARGN themselves? A sort of game by the gamers? This might explain the recruitment effort and lack of Veteran status player input. Also, two independant games (Synogoga and Wildfire Industries) just revealed they're actually the same game. And I couldn't help but notice that a recent effort, Ares Station, contains a few similarities to PPC: it disseminates news through a communications link called "The Sentinel" and predominantly features a spaceport community. What if this Orbital Colony is our link to Perplex City?

In many respects PPC reminds me of the movie "Scream," which was a tongue-in-cheek approach to horror movies showcased within a horror movie. I can't help but think there's something similar going on here. Maybe all of these smaller games will merge into one and reveal that the players are actually the Puppet Masters!

Now that would be some twist!

Well, I can certainly believe that PPC is done by ARGN, but I really hope the games don't merge...I'm not playing the others right now!!

While the multi-ARG might be an interesting idea, I don't think that it's quite possible yet. The only way I could see it happening is if each "side" of the ARG (PPC/Aries) kept to knowing their own stuff, and referred to someone on the other "side" when they needed to know something about PPC. But it'd be terribly inconvienent.

... Though the senior players being missing is kinda creepy, when I get to thinking about it. Maybe Adrian recruited them? Of course, all of the ones I consider senior played ILB, and they're probably too busy with XBL to play ARGs anymore. =P

I'm a former ILBer, and still around Smile (not that I'm a senior player)

I'm just no good at spec and so haven't had much to say on PC so far.

the lack of Veteran players?

Quote:

Ok, this one completely baffles me. I think it is safe to say that there is a very high level of Veteran players following this game. I am not sure how anyone got the mistaken impresion that Veteran players are absent, unless, perhaps the Veteran players were/are waiting for the game to really start before they have much to post here.

I am sure if you look at the player resources like the primer, the moderated blog, the forum mods, chat room ops etc. you will see very experienced people -- all of whom are playing this game. There are lots of Veteran players here and almost all of them seem to be following/playing this game. As I said, they may be more present when the game actually gets going. Smile
