Newbie here, sorry if any of this is redundant. These are a couple of random musings I've had on things; they don't follow the previous discussion too much.

Firstly, I wonder if Jon meant astrological months when he was referring to the next month; in this case, the next month would be Capricorn, which, as people have noted started on December 22nd. How this would actually help things, I'm not sure--Perhaps Jon did not mean he would literally call people, but that we should use the info to dig up more information located elsewhere (long shot, I know). Following that train of thought, maybe someone could try looking up the time of dawn on the 22nd (or January 1st), and using that as a password somewhere.

Also, in relation to Capricorn, I found a webpage that detailed the astrological significance of Capricorn, though I'm not sure of the site's accuracy. It said the passwords for Capricorn were "I serve" and "I use"; it also mentioned the word "duty" as being associated with the sign. I did try these three words as well as their Latin versions and got nowhere in either the contract or the mezzanine; perhaps a more erudite Latin scholar than I could give it a try. For those interested, here's the site: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/4239/capricorn.html

Finally, I was looking at the weather map, and noticed that the weather symbols kind of looked like letters: specifically, "R", "G", "S", and "M" (for the smoke--this is something of a stretch). Unfortunately, these don't work well for any kind of encoding, and I'm not really sure how they would be arranged. It seems like the weather map should have some significance beyond offering a plausible zipcode, and this might have something to do with it.

All right, that's all for me.

Maybe the fact that http://www.hornchurchstar.com/weather_not_ok.php displays a map without the action is significant...

I think weather_not_ok means that you don't have flash installed on your machine; I noticed that it replaces the flash weather map with a gif. The Inferno Cargo fleet page works the same way: infernocargo.com/fleet_ok.php has a flash animation on the side, and fleet_not_ok.php has an animated gif.

Now this is something I thought of, in a previous post I mentioned webcam picture #4. This is not the same crossroads as in the other pictures. In his Cache Jon mentiones The Ninth Gate. In this film one of the main characters collects the drawings of Lucifer to open the Ninth Gate. But one picture is falsified. Only with the right picture, you are able to open the Ninth Gate.

This is as far as my theorie goes, don't know if we are supposed to search for the right webcam picture or if we should investigate webcam pict. #4.

..now that is a very interesting spec, mei, but I know I definitely wouldn't be able to solve this clue if it is one, as i am not very computer literate - give me things to google/anagrams but anything computer language orientated and I'm lost - hopefully either you or someone else in the forum knows what sort of investigations to do to see if your SPEC had any pertinence... good thinking though - hopefully may bear some fruit

The ninth gate has sooooo many similarities with jon's story, that i think at least one clue should be there...
i keep searching,
but the more i know about the ninth gate, the more i see where they got some of their inspiration (even my signature is from the ninth gate Very Happy )

music and passwords

In the cache, Jon makes reference to Winston Churchill's "black dog". I looked it up and that's what he called his depression/dark moods. Guitar legend, blues man Robert Johnson is also mentioned in the game, he was born in the depression era and if you notice their is a guitar on the wall in the study of the hiding room. My theory is the mezzanine door code may be derived from a song title or guitar tabs by R.J. I've tried several different combos but there are tons of possibilities! His last performace was at "jook joint" at a crossroads called "three forks"

As far as Robert Johnson goes, my guess is that if the password has anything to do with one of his songs, it's probably Cross Road Blues, seeing how that's the one that deals directly with the whole selling-his-soul-to-the-devil thing.

nice job!! Smile

now the 'confer' thing is all clear to me ...
but is he refering to the 2nd cache as the other work,
or is there a 'work' we're missing

(cf. (confer - the imperative of confero): compare; used to suggest that another work might also be consulted in relation to that argument)

i'll check the other abrev.'s....

29/8 to 27/8 ?
23/10 to 31/10 Halloween
21/12 Winter solstice*

Random, probably incidental thing that I noticed: if you take the difference between each of the updated dates (e.g. 2/4 to 1/4 is 1, 21/12 would be 21) and put them together in order, you get the following palindrome number: 128212821 . As to it's significance, I'm not sure, but if nothing else, it's an interesting coincidence.

Apologise in advance, but head screwed up too much with thinking about clues and so now am bored....

a bit of (very trivial) light relief

my synopsis of game to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody:-

Quote:
Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Read up on the forum and see-
I'm just a poor gal, I need no sympathy-
Because I'm easy come, easy go,
A little high, little low,
Anyway the clues come, doesn't really matter to me,
To me

Jonnie, just read the Cache,
tried "Ibidem" & "Confer"
But both seem to get me nowhere,
Jonnie ,2005 has just begun,
But now I'm wondering what it's all about -
Jonnie, ooo,
Don't mean to make you sigh-
But if I'm not back again this time tomorrow-
worry on, worry on, coz Stella's promo maybe flagging

Too late, Yule Tide has come,
Sends shivers down our spines-
keep seeing inverted 999's
Goodbye everybody- To Hilbert's we must go -
Gotta leave you all behind and find the truth-
Jonnie, ooo- (only Stella Artois knows)
I don't want to fail,
I sometimes wish I'd never found ARG's at all-

I see an empty pair of spectacles of a man, (www.jonharker.com)
Sable & Shuck, Sable & Shuck did you ever get to Moorfields?-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Fibonacci, Hornchurch weather
Hornchurch webcam dot com
webcam dot com -magnifico-
But I'm just a poor gal and nobody knows me-
She's just a poor gal from a poor family-
Spare her her life from this mediocrity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Fidelio ! no-,we will not let you go-let her go-
Fidelio ! we will not let you go-let her go
Fidelio ! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Jonnie Harker, Jonnie Harker, Jonnie Harker let me go-
Sable & Shuck has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me-

So you think you can e-mail me and leave me clues to spy
So you think you can let me join E-Bay and buy-
Oh, Jonnie, can't do this to me Jonnie –
Just gotta solve this - just gotta solve this right here & now

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,

Any date that He knows....

Re: song

Alcofribas, well done.

Some questions:
1) are we SURE we "flashed" the password so we can't get in till the PMs allow us?

2) if not, how can we combine John's suggestions for this password (favorite football club, family names, numbers, words, etc)?

3) John suggests we have to look at the differences in the cache. Are those the differences in the numbers of the dates, the dates themselves, the changes in spelling on those dates or other changes we overlooked?

I followed this since end of november, subscribed early december, printed out The complete Cache, pictures and text of all involved websites to read through during my holliday, but didn't find anything. I think we have to focus on 3) .

Goodmorning everyone.
