I think New Order Day means he listened to the Joy Division box set on 4/21, then listened to New Order on 4/22.... bands are related, of course, by members. The band members left after Ian Curtis' suicide had their own bands: Revenge, The Other Ones and Electronic. Not sure there's much there, other than something to listen to.

The next day's entry: "How does it feel?" may refer to New Order's "Blue Monday", which he was listening to 4/22.

How does it feel to treat me like you do?
When you've your hands upon me
And told me who you are
I thought I was mistaken
I thought I heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel
Tell me now, How do I feel...

Hi, can anyone give me a brief update on where things are at, please!! I was getting hooked on this and driving my partner and work colleagues mad right up until the hidingroom came to light. From then on i have been left behind due to my old dial up modem. I cant get anywhere on the site. "Ahah" i thought, abuse the work broadband but that doesnt have flash and will not let me install it Mad
So now I am left reading the posts and wondering what might have been. Is the cache a new site or another part of the hidingroom.
Is there anything I can be doing to help on anything else?
I am expecting a coal delivery tomorrow so the computer should be ok!!

The Cache is a "new" part of the hiding room. Remember the book behind the bookcase safe we couldn't get into? That's The Cache.

And for everyone unlucky enough to be on dialup, I've transcribed all the journal entries onto the Wiki. Enjoy.

For JOY! Even not on dial up for those of us obsessed and page jumping looking for clues, trying to navigate the book and closing the window by mistake and going ACK and having to go all the way back in...

THANK YOU!

Hi T-Mass- this is just a thought, but I think that some of the posts in the Cache are 'shout-outs' to players that have been communicating with Jon "in-game". I mentioned before that I'm recorded in the diary; I'd guess Lorelei is another player who has been hounding the real people behind Jon's email account with advice and requests for clues!

Just jumping in one more time...

Because of the obvious references to Borges' Library of Babel, as well as the implied Lovecraft 'Necronomicon'/non-existent book similarities to The Book of Star... I think there has to be some connection between the final entry in The Cache and the contract details - there are numerous subtle references to Borges' work:

Question: How do you get hold of a book that doesn't exist?
Answer: Go to a library that doesn't exist either....

Three possibilities so far:
1) something within the "Library of Babel" story (dhcmrlchtdj?) - http://jubal.westnet.com/hyperdiscordia/library_of_babel.html;

2) the implicit meaning of the Library in Borges' story (the Universe) - http://jubal.westnet.com/hyperdiscordia/library_of_babel.html;

3) the Juan Crisóstomo Lafinur Library mentioned in "The Aleph" story, which I found may be located in San Luis, Argentina... - http://www.phinnweb.com/links/literature/borges/aleph.html

Wow - reading that back to myself makes me feel like I've gone a bit mad... maybe I should take a day off from this thing....

Brigid the Hellbent (harhar) Ex?

Probably useless speculation, but I wonder if Brigid has anything to do with the ex-girlfried with the English Lit degree mentioned on September 16th?

Hey remember the 2nd post and Jon mentions that people will give their password for chocolate? Clicking the link you will find a comment that reads..

I work for a high profile IT company and I am amazed at the number of people that use common everyday names or words as passwords. We have to use 'alphanumeric' passwords i.e. 'mer45cedes' as an example. As a word of advice to anyone who is confronted with the common practice of using 'mother's maiden name' when setting up an account online - don't use her real maiden name, use anything else you like. You don't have to use the real name, just remember a fictitious one for 'computer use only'. Also, don't use your name as a log-in, use something alphanumeric such as your car and car registration number i.e. peugeotrv02tkn - it is just as easy to remember (usually) but harder to crack.

Our Jon?

Just a bit SPEC, but if this was OUR Jon, may be we may have to 1337 speak the password for the mezz door when we find it?

hmmm...admitedly [sp?] I am a n00b but I feel that trying (possibly hundreds of) permutations of a code in 1337 5P34K w0u1d n0t be in keep1ng with the style of this game, we may have to work for the password but I dont think trial and error is an approach these PMs encourage..the only possible examples are the code in the guestbooks which (at the moment at least) are either complete red herrings or not very useful. But then, I don't think I have read how the safe code number was cracked, so I could be wrong...

[edit] wow miss_seph you are quick. Just found this in the wiki about 2 minutes later and was about to edit my post... Very Happy [/edit]

New news. The cut-off sentences in the cache are not intentional. They are code mistakes. Take a look at the xml.

How? Load each page from the cache, then check your Temporary Internet Files folder (or wherever else your browser cache is). Look for the xml entries that correspond to each page in the site, and enter those in as your URL. For example, to look at the April entries, check out:

http://www.thehidingroom.com/blogData/ForumEntry_1064svb749.xml

Ok, so I don't have time to transcribe into the wiki (or even look at each of the pages), but with my quick glance I can tell that major info is missing from the flash versions of the site. definitely check out the xml (and someone needs to add it to the wiki...that will probably be easier to read than everyone sorting through the xml...the wiki is linked in my sig).

For example, behold the rest of the April 30 entry. It looks like a mistake in the A HREF code for his first of three entry links:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Finally, my luck is changing. The Man in Black has been seen today. Got an email from friend of HWAU who lives just outside of Hornchurch. Not Essex but USA. He sent me a link to a story in their newspaper.

It's most definitely a sighting of the Man in Black. All the evidence is there:

Localised eclipse
Machine Failure
Incident Occurred at a crossroads - which are typically bad news
Devil Dog sighting (curiously called 'Old Shuck')
Reports of a man dressed in black

Put it all straight onto HWAU - along with the H*'s photo.

Random point of strangeness: one of the witnesses is called Frances Griffiths. The name rang a bell so I checked on google and found an interesting fact about her namesake.

ZOOOM!!!

Do we know anyhting bout his parents accident. The reason I'm asking this is that the chocolate story is talking using mothers maiden names as passwords is a good thing.
