There's ample opportunity for a game type along those lines from Bungie. There's even a story element that fits: the Flood.

Everyone against one flood-infected player. When they kill someone, the victim comes back as part of the flood too. In my experience playing that zombie game it's just too much of a pain in the ass without official support for it. So, hurry up and make a proper game type for it, Bungie. Smile

Crazy Taxi -or- Grand Theft Auto

Crazy Taxi -or- Grand Theft Auto

I'm thinking about a game type that rewards only aggressive driving. The only weapons are plasma pistols, so you can't easily kill players on foot. Bear with me, I'm still figuring out what would be most fun/interesting/challenging.

Only passenger-carrying vehicles (spectres and warthogs). The map would have to be large: Coagulation, Headlong, or Waterworks.

Crazy Taxi

Using an oddball variation: Points accumulate for time with the ball. Bonus points for hyjack and splatter medals. It would be easier to win with a team variation (driver and passenger), but it might be more interesting to run it as a free-for-all.

Add grenades to the mix, and...

Using a territories variation: 3+ 2-player teams race around the map claiming territories.

Using a multi-CTF variation: 3+ 2-player teams race around the map capturing flags and returning them to home base.

Using a Crazy King variation: No grenades. 3+ 2-player teams race each other to each hill.

Grand Theft Auto / Road Kill
The only points that count are medals for:
splatter
vehicle hyjack
sticking (maybe)
double, triple, etc kills

Disqualifying medals:
sniping
head shot
assasination
beat down

Since medal counts are not broken out separately, players are disqualified if they earn a medal for anything but driving or jacking. After time is up, the winner has the most medals, without earning a disqualifying medal. We could allow other vehicles into this variation, but the tank would be almost useless.

Island Hopping

Island Hopping

Rockets and swords on Coagulation or Waterworks. Multi CTF or Territories. Players can walk around inside a base, but nowhere else. Players can only move away from the base by riding as a passenger or rocket-lunging. When a player lands on ground outside the base, the player may not walk away from that spot. If a player spawns at a point on open ground, too bad: a teammate must pick them up or the player must find a suitable rocket-lunge target.

Going for the easy games, are you? Wink

I'm not sure how well that would work... I can only imagine that someone would be a pain and ignore the rules and walk around anyway, and then trouble starts. But if we can find the right group, I'd be up for trying it! Wink

just a comment, not a custom game, but I really hope that bungie brings back 'Wizard' or a variant as a downloadable map... midship is cool, but it's still big, and so complex. Wizard was small and simple, and it gave birth to enormously wild rocket slayer matches, especially with 8 or more people at a time...

for nostalgia, I wanna go back and try Halo 1 again, using the Halo 2 default setup instead of southpaw jumpy... see if that makes any difference compared to my previous Halo 1 skill...

anyway, back to game types Razz

I agree. The idea would be fun, but it's like playing with handicaps online: everyone has to voluntarily participate.

Zombie
Team Slayer, 10 minute limit
Best with 10+ people. One person is on the green team (the "zombie").
Everyone else is red team. There was some weapon restrictions, can't remember them right now... Anyways, when a green zombie kills a red, that person must change teams to green. (kinda an honor system thing).
If greens take over everyone before 10 minutes, they win.
Best Map: Headlong, Blood Gulch

SWAT

Game Type: Team Slayer or individual slayer
Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle
Secondary Weapon: Magnum
No Sheilds
Weapons on map: Battle Rifle
Grenades: on
Unlimited Lives
First Team to 100 or First Individual to 25
Vehicles: Warthog only
Turrets: Machine gun
No Radar

TRUE SWAT

Game Type: Team Slayer or individual slayer
Primary Weapon: Battle Rifle
Secondary Weapon: Magnum
No Sheilds
Weapons on map: NONE
Grenades: on
Vehicles: Warthog only
Turrets: Machine gun
# of Lives: 1
Rounds: First to win 3 rounds
Time limit 20 minute per round (though this will not be necessary)
No Radar

Both of these game types are alot of fun, but TRUE SWAT takes a lot more skill and tactics since you only have the ammo that you start out with. In TRUE SWAT your team must kill the other team to win the round. First team to win 3 rounds wins.

Edit: Added No Radar per Water10 pointing it out. I forgot to add that before. Thanks!

These games with no shield should always be played with no radars as well, don't you think? At least I love the no-shield/no-radar games! Cool

True Classic CTF

This is how I used to play it in Halo:
Standard starting and map weapons
No Radar
Vehicles: Chain Gun Warthog, Ghost, Scorpion Tank.
No time limit
3 Flags to win
Vehicle Operation with Flag: On
Normal Walking Speed With Flag
Mix, pour over ice, and enjoy.

True Slayer/Team Slayer

Basically, just TS and FFA with out raider.

More to come!

I call it...Ouchie

Basically it's a needlers only slayer game. Not much fun with two people, but great with a big crowd, especially on the smaller maps (Midship is the best). Normal shields, health, radar, etc. Starting weapon: needler, weapons on map: none (would be needler if they gave that option Sad ) grenades can be on or off depending on personal preference.

Although it would be cooler if they allowed you to set needlers as the only weapon on the map, the no weapons element does add a bit of a twist to it as your only ammo supply now comes from your fallen opponents. This is definitely one to try out. There's nothing like seeing one of those tiny rooms on Midship completely filled with flying purple death Twisted Evil
