I live in Wisconsin, so I don't know if I'll have any more interaction with them than sticking things in books or similar things.

If they even accept me.

This is how they'd appeal/satisfy those not in Australia: Busywork. Busywork with no purpose. We'll sit trying to figure out why they have us doing seemingly random tasks when thats what they really are, random tasks.

No purpose? Sounds like viral marketing at its finest. What do you think is going to happen when people start finding these slips of paper in the book and start posting it to blogs?

Some of them will start googling and realize it's always on the same page. Then they'll find Neurocam and discover no one really knows what's going on. By then, they'll have a new crop of initiates to further propagate whatever it is they're offering.

Personally, I think that, like the Oz of storybook fame, there isn't much behind the curtain. To me, Neurocam looks like a little social experiment that burst through its local bubble in Melbourne. Not to say it isn't fun or interesting to follow, but expectations seem to exceed reality in these things given enough hype and teasing.

Well, I think that in Australia, they are really committing themselves to make a crazy, mysterioius game full of intrigue and all that.

And everyone else in the world reads the blogs by the people participating in them, and join, maybe a little scared, a little excited.

So they give us odd jobs like printing out and cutting images to stick in books. It's already enough work for them to keep it going in Australia, so they just have us doing tasks that makes us feel part of the game, meanwhile the real stuff is goin on down under, brought to us by the bloggers. (brings back memories of Dana)

Also, neurocam says its not a lot of things. For hypothetical kicks, if what they say is true, then what does that leave for them to be, exactly?

I'm beginning to think that neurocam is just a bit of fun to see how many people will join up without knowing what's going on. The viral marketing being the easiest way to spread the word and the mystery.

Couple random thoughts and things of importance:

1. You never know how many people are involved. Maybe there IS an operative near you... or will be? Case in point: Grey Cadillacs, I think we live rather close. Maybe I'll see you around? Razz

2. Some random updates that I don't believe have been mentioned here. www.roberthely.com and the disclaimer for neurocam has been updated to include "Neurocam is not..." .... "an ARG", "Archavida", "a joke", "illegal", "dangerous", "addictive", "multilayer PBS drilling registration software", "confined to the internet", and "confined to Melbourne Australia". They've definitely been taking into account our speculation, and denying accordingly.

3. Um.... well, we have a mission. So it's definitely not over (and I have to say, I thought it was when Graham's name popped up in the "a brief guide.doc" - however the more I think about it, the more this seems planted. I don't think three names could accidentally pop up. I mean, PMs another ARG were revealed this way - I don't it could happen accidentally twice).

4. Ah I've ran out of points. The first two were the most important. Oh and check LadyJ for the best, r-rated most up-to-date Neurocam musings and information. Smile

Ha, got my letter, and replied with a few questions, one about why not bunny masks and another something about what nuerocam is, if it is not all those things.

Dear Grey,

Thank you for your correspondence.

Neurocam's Operational Security Guidelines prohibit me from revealing
excessive information regarding Neurocam's proprietary industrial
practices, but, working within that framework, I will attempt to answer
your questions to the best of my abilities.

1. Why the masks?

Neurocam International maintains a high-level of secrecy so as to protect
our proprietary operating procedures. In addition, we endeavor, at all
times, to provide a safe and secure working place for our employees,
operatives and servitors. To facilitate this endeavor, measures have been
taken to ensure that employees are not easily identifiable.

Despite this, your point about the masks being "intimidating" is valid. I
have already instructed my Division to explore the potential option of
utilizing less threatening masks. It should be noted, however, that some
individuals find bunnies and former presidents equally intimidating.

2. What is Neurocam?

Neurocam is a process of unveiling. Understanding is achieved through
experience. Operatives are invited to participate in assignments designed
to facilitate this process. Neurocam is not a marketing ploy, nor does it
have any political, religious or corporate affiliations. Beyond this, the
onus is on the operative to either achieve understanding or to pursue
whatever investigative trajectories they deem appropriate. Be warned,
however, that the latter invariably leads to mystification and
frustration.

Great heavens that Shelly is ugly. I'm guessing she's fake, no? I'm gonna refer back to ILB(it was my first ARG) and say that she's similar to Dana. In her diaryhttp://www.shellyinnocence.com/1A_shellywood.html she talks about her sister referring her to Neurocam, and through her diary we're gonna see her join it and events will ensue.

Also, one of the links (to subscribe to her online magazine) leads to a different one, apparently hacked and changed which shoots Shelly down.

What exactly do they deal in? Marketing states of mind? Trademarking Happiness and Innocence? Saying you can buy those things?

http://www.shellyinnocence.com/boycott_innocence.html is the link that was taken over. Maybe I'll email him.

Scratch that, the email doesnt work.

But there are a lot of parallels with her and Neurocam.

Favorite Movie: Gone with the Wind and The Matrix

Nuerocam and The Matrix are related

Lives: Between New York and Melbourne

Obvious, Neurocam operates in Melbourne.

There area few others maybe worth checking out, she's reading Join Me, by Danny Wallace.

I don't know ,just some thoughts to chew on[/u]

Shelly Innocence was yet another art project by the same folks. I'd paste in a link, but I'm feeling lazy. The story I read, which quoted two of the key guys in Neurocam, states it was a totally ficititious creation to explore emotion (or something like that). They also used billboards in that one.

[edit] Fi asked if I could find the links for her. Here are two

I'm too lazy to paste the link too, but Shelly is actually the guy who says he's the CEO of Innocence. His name's on the tip of my tongue, but I forgot.
