I imagine that they say that to not only make you feel uneasy about your security but to make it seem as if they can!

I'm almost certain that it's just part of the story/realism... Not actual back ground checks. Of course, in some places you can demand to know what background checks are being carried out on you!

p.s, judging on what dates and times everyone else seems to be getting, you will probably have to do your report on Feb 14th from 4-9pm... I'm guessing, of course!

Sure they do a background check, just not in the traditional sense.

In their background check, they check two things:

1. Your handle
2. Your IP

That's just enough to make sure that, if you are applying, you weren't involved with Neurocam before.

Apparently Neurocam rejects people if they aren't good enough. Which means they actually read the reports. Which means...::Gasp:: its not an autoresponder.

Anyways, their rejection letter follows:

Dear Applicant

Thank you for completing Neurocam International's application process.

Your Neurocam Perception Assignment NCI-2001/01 report was evaluated in accordance with the organization's pre-determined assessment criteria.

Neurocam's Human Resources Security Division has determined that your report failed to demonstrate the minimum requirement of at least seven
(7)
out of ten (10) of the indicative criteria required for Neurocam acceptance.

You are hereby informed that your application to Neurocam International has been unsuccessful.

We thank you once again for your application and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Kind Regards

Bridget Fischer

i dont buy this for a sec. probably just a response from someone inside neurocam to all the speculation about there never being anyone rejected. gandalph, where did you find out about this? i apologize for calling your character into question, but it just reeks of counterpropaganda.

Gandalph is a RL friend of mine, and he's definitely not fake, and he's definitely not from within Neurocam.

I've been making fun of him for not getting in, that is all.

i was also skeptical cos hes a guest member too. Posting that with little extra info would be just like neurocam.

edit - i just got accepted even though i submitted a really small crappy report with no images or anything :s and also the 'Upon acceptance of our offer you
will immediately receive accreditation for ongoing operational
deployment, a privilege achieved by less than 26% of applicants.'

Woo! I got my next assignment!

Neurocam actually gets a LOT more interesting if you stick with it, as this is the covert training assignment. Fun!

Good to know. Thanks for sharing that information, even though Neurocam watches this forum and seems to dislike people sharing information. As one of the basic premises of this forum is collaboration and collaboration violates their rules in some way, I can see that they would want to keep track of what people post here. Maybe posting anonymously is an option--but if you are registered here I don't think you should post under another name to hide your identity from Neurocam. ( I think someone suggested that as an option somewhere in this thread.) Maybe one of the unfiction mods or site admins has some ideas on how people could share properly spoilered information here without revealing their identity?

I can see how the misunderstanding about posting Neurocam info here occured. I tend to assume that unfiction is "out of game," but it is only "out of game" if the creators respect it as such. (Not that I am saying Neurocam is a game, perhaps I should say "out of process." )

It sounds like you all are enjoying this one. Have fun with it.
Smile

Just got the "covert training assignment" as well. Very excited about this one; the first assignment was a little bland, but this one should make it worth jumping through Neurocam's hoops.

And I thought I was paranoid.

That email is real. I am real. I am not a part of Neurocam, as you can tell from the email they sent me. Urth knows me, hell, he's in my physics class at school.

I used a guest account because Urth told me to post the email I got and I didn't much feel like registering. I have now. If you're interested, I can put up the email with full headers or whatever. Not that that would make any difference to some...

So yah, in summary, it's real. That means not fake, not counterpropeganda, or anything else.

Just thought I'd clarify:

Yes, IMHO nothing is really out-of-game, and Neurocam has been known to watch blogs and, I'm sure, these boards. However they have started acknowledging those types of media as legit and providing us with specific instructions on how much we are and are not allowed to share.

Guys, it's an experience. Personally I don't know if there really is puzzles to solve or murderers to track down via IRC... I think the clearest definition ever given is (a) an experience, and (b) a new kind of theatre in which the audience becomes the performers. So.... enjoy the show? Razz

In any case, I got the covert training excercise too. Mr. Green I'm psyched.

2 things I noticed

The quality of the writing of some of the original blogs makes me wonder if people who did well in the first assignment were asked to blog Neurocam for the world.

I found this somewhere about something:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Dear Operative

On Sunday February 20, 2005 between 1700 and 1800 hours, Neurocam's Operations Division will be conducting an operation which will require the deployment of multiple operatives.

You are hereby instructed to report your availability for that date by close of business Friday February 11, 2005.

Regards,

Charles Hastings
Head, Operations Division

Is this limited to "Down-Under" or is everyone allowed to file an application?

they dont seem to mind what country you are in:

Neurocam International is part of a multifaceted organization with
operations throughout the world. We have operatives in countries such
as: Australia; New Zealand; the United States of America; Nigeria;
Kenya; Japan; Netherlands; Germany and the United Kingdom.

note the 'such as'. personally i dont think they are too bothered about which country you are in. has anyone been rejected because of their location?

I'm getting a little nervous here. They changed their page saying that they do not accept applicants under 16, and I haven't recieved any communication since. The last email I got was on Jan 27, and it said "You will receive the details of your next assignment shortly," in it.

This is a bit worrisome to me.
