Gestas, you may find it interesting that your home town of Dunedin was the place where the cable car pull curve was invented for the St. Roslyn Tramway.

I'd say kudos for the use of cablecar trivia to derail this thread, but I think anything keeping this thread jumping till the all important award anouncements come in is a good thing.

Cable car? San Francisco is rather famous for its cable cars. Does Dunedin still have them?

I can't tell if you're saying 'oh' in realization, or 'oooo' as in you actually see the same butterfly... one means you're smart, the other means you're crazy Razz
unless of course, we're all being crazy... then my desk is swarming with beautiful butterflies! OOooo....

Lamentably no. Unstoppable march of progress and all that.

I took it to mean that Clayfoot really can be distracted by butterflies, and it was indeed a valid tactic that could have prevented many Condorcet Polls Wink

Hrmpita: At one time, a LOT of major US cities and several European cities had cable cars. Sorry bout the thread hijack, but Dunedin struck me, since I was reading my cable car historic book, thats all. Some cities that had cables cars included Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, New York, St. Paul, Chicago, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, St. Louis. Some nottable facts on there are also more trivia to keep us occupied:

Steepst grade, Los Angeles Pacific & Second St, 27% on the Bunker Hill run.
Only water powered cable car system: Spokane Cable Company which used waterwheels in the Spokane river.
First single track dual line system: Los Angeles, Pacific Railway (both cables ran in same slot, had passing sidings for the cars to pass each other. Several lines such as San Diego used this because the conduit investment was enormous)
Longest cable: Kansas City, Troost Ave, 24,000 feet
Longest lasting cable cars, short of San Franscisco: Seattle, removed in the 1940s. Most lines were removed at the turn of the century.
Cable Car line immortalized in song, Kansas City, Missouri, 12th Street line, "Twelth Street Rag"

Ok, sorry for going off like that, but gotta keep this all moving.

And for quick question, what famous baseball team was named after trolley cars? And yes, the team is still playing today.

Hi Nightmare Tony (btw, I like your ILB music).
How did we make this incredible jump from cable cars to trolley cars? Smile
Anyway, I know the answer because of my mom. The Dodgers. When they were first introduced to Brooklyn, people "dodged" the trolley cars. My mom was a huge Brooklyn Dodgers fan. They moved out to LA about the same time as my mom moved to San Francisco. She became a Giants fan. As everyone knows, the Los Angeles Dodgers are pure evil, plain and simple. Razz

My favorite name (they went through many before settling on the Dodgers) was the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. Watch out, folks! the bridegrooms are soooo formidable!

Blush! Thanks bout my music. Was a lot of fun playing along kind of subtle in the background (I don't use any loop software, it was only an audio editing with live keyboarfd overlays).

I kinda grew up with the Dodgers out here. Completely forget who was who, but ah well....

Have been having fun writing wierd music lately, a 40's Ink Spots style croon and a blugrass gig for an upcoming movie.

by the way, if you ever drop by southern california, you will have to stop on by, lets all have lunch, HitsHerMark and whoever else we can bring in... Smile

In a grammar school talent show, I was involved in a sketch and the music we used was the Ink Spots.

What's the name of the movie, please?

I will certainly let you know if I ever get down to the LA area again. I used to go down there all the time to visit friends, who are still down there, but I just haven't visited them in a while. I sure wish I could make it for your January 19th gathering.

Same thing goes for you and any other southern california people who come up to the Bay Area (or anyone from anywhere coming here). I am in the Beekeeper contact list, so either through that or through here, you can get in touch with me.

The movie is called Sinjin Smyth. It's a horror movie with a pretty original plot. The stars are Jason Hildebrandt, Richard Tyson and Tom Savini. Midnight Syndicate is doing the main music, mine more or less slips in along the way. It will release from Warner Brothers. As an aside, the ILB song I did is one proposed cue I have in for the movie, with some other sound things going on. Basically, I am trying out different styles for different point cues within the script, to see what works.

One thing I do love is the storyline is original. It is not your usual slasher fare. I have seen quite a few horror movies, and this one diesnt fit any of the plot categories that are usually done.

The basic plotline tells of two federal marshalls escorting a prisoner....

who happens to be the Devil.

Hrmmmm.

I bet no cable cars ever went up Baldwin Street. That's Dunedin's other claim to fame - the steepest street in the world. I think it's 1/11 gradient, or something utterly ridiculous like that.. and yes, I've run up it. And rolled Jaffas down it. Really, really funny to watch. :bg:

I can't believe that the guy at the end of this one wasn't considered in this category. I still laugh everytime I hear it
