like this?

Yeah, I guess it would be enough of a puzzle itself. Finding the translator and all. At the gate, we overdid it, and it took us mouch longer than we thought. But I don't want to jump the gun here, either.

Exactly. I had just finished the diagram below as my answer when I saw that you had posted yours. Maybe I looked too deep into this one.

Filenames

Hi there,

Im new to this and i'm sorry for my bad english. I wondered if there are some more clues about the fourth key within the filenames of the pictures? The one quoted above ended with "1jb". Furthermore only the PNG-files have those "added" characters:

key13gr.png
key37hu.png
nycunorgbsjnfrg1wo.png[/b]

Maybe this is totally nonsense. Maybe it will help?

Sounds like we just need to complete the visual puzzle, from what this says. But other than that, I have no idea of what else needs to be solved.

The Twelve respond to my latest contact

I sent the Twelve a message showing the decoded Theban. Here is their response to me:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

If you are collaborating on this with other Acolytes, this may be a vital piece of information for you all;

The characters weren't placed in twos for no reason.

I just found this today so I have not given up yet. I thought for a second that the letter pairs were standard country names. Mainly because ch is Switzerland ( example www.cern.ch ). But then I thought why would that matter?

-- edit:

I found a list of the ISO-3166 name list here but the only mach was CH for switzerland (knew that) and AD for andorra. No other matches. So that didn't give us much.

Edit 2:
..But this isn't very ancient is it? Embarassed

Maybe the letters relate to numbers?

c h
m e
l e

r a

As I understand it, the "Theban alphabet" is not actually a script associated with a particular language -- its first known appearance was in a Latin text, and it's more of a code than an actual system of writing.

Nevertheless, in some languages (well, actually Semitic languages are the only ones I can think of) letters double as numbers. I nosed around a bit, and I don't see any information on symbols for numerals, so either one uses normal Arabic numerals with the Theban alphabet, or the letters double as numbers.

Except for the doubling of i/j and u/v, it corresponds exactly to the English alphabet. So, if a=1 and so on, we end up with:

3 8
12 5
11 5
1 4
17 1

Do these numbers mean anything to anyone?

Otherwise, the symbols look familiar to me, even though I have no reason to know "Theban." I think they might be alchemical or astrological or something along those lines.

Perhaps the pairings have alchemical/astrological significance?

EDIT: Aha. The Theban symbol for S closely resembles the alchemical symbol for bismuth. I'll poke around a bit more.

EDIT: Theban O = alchemical sign for "separation," which is also the Zodiac sign for Scorpio.

The symbols for B and U/V and W almost look more like runes.

EDIT: Nah, this is too complicated.

I was getting desperate, then I got an idea

Since I was coming up blank, I asked Jake for help. His reply is below:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Hello, friend.

All is well. I'm still undercover, yet I fear something dreadful has happened. I will update everyone once i get some concrete facts.

As to the puzzle, it's one of the Cult's games, but I don't think it's as complicated as you may think. I can't tell you the answer directly, (to be honest, I never passed the Second Key myself) but all I sniffed out is that you place the 5 pairs of symbols on the arms of the pentagram. In what order, I'm not so sure.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Jake

Which is kind of what I figured. Based on this, I think I may try another shot at sending an answer to the Twelve.

Can someone post a picture of the puzzle -- or at least the pentagram -- for those of us who aren't familiar with LiveJournal.

Well, I think you are less mistaken than I am. At least I now know where to send my puzzle solve attempts now. Very Happy

I sent the12 my solution idea yesterday, here is what it lokked like:

you should be able to see how I ordered the letter pairs (from the top rigt, 1,3,5,2,4). EDIT:whoops, the order I sent was 1,4,2,5,3.
Then just now I got a reply from the12 that said:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Adramelech sees your efforts and applauds them. He is greatly amused.

He offers his assistance, but has told us this will come to you at a
greater price later in time.

Be thankful, young Acolyte.
they also sent a pic:
http://www.nonsenz.net/myndir/arg/solutionAnswer1.gif

hmm.. this appears to be moving in the right direction(I hope Shocked )

EDIT2: I sent the solution like I said I had done it (from the top rigt, 1,3,5,2,4)
