[EMAIL] Auto-Responder (March 08, 2005)

Good day all,

I am new and I searched and read and I didn;t see this new email so I thought I would post it. Please forgive me if it redundant.

I sent an email to "Sente@PerplexCity.com" and happily received a reply, as follows:

"Thank you for your email. I regret that I am unable to individually reply to mail sent to my public box. If your email is of an urgent or personal nature, I will reply shortly. Otherwise, I shall read your message in due time, and I beg your patience.

Sente

No, but I e-mailed kitewaySPLATperplexcity.com, and sente.kitewaySPLATperplexcity.com and got nothing back (that was a few hours ago).

I tried smarchantSPLATperplexcity.com, but no autoresponder on that one, either. What others have been tried?

I also tried dude@ just to see if I get some kind of error message (unable to deliver user not found sort of thing.) Nothing so far.

I saw a thread where someone had enetered al of the names of Academy people and got no errors at all. The "action=" attribute points to a cgi program that likely parses out all self-refrencing email addresses that do not initiate from the server's own domain. The webpage could use JavaScript to verify your submission, but it is not that way as of this writing.

I'm not quite sure what could be considered so, but:

Has anyone tried sending Sente something "urgent," or of a "personal nature?"

His autoresponder says he would "reply shortly" to such correspondence. Perhaps we could think of something to write to him about that would trigger a faster reply?

Well, this suggests he has more than 1 email address.

I tried an email to Sente (again) this time with "Urgent!" in the Subject. I did get a reply, but it was the same as the other.

Two items of interest:
1) tThe Autoresponder has an integer in parenthesis (2). Suggesting their is also more than 1 Autoresponse message.
This could either be triggered by a specific email address (To or From), or perhaps from putting something special in the Subject or Body of the message.

2) Relatd to #1. The headers include an item called "Precedence." Precedence: junk Evidently Sente knew beforehand that he did not want a larger penis or breasts.
(Insert laugh here)

I tried the following; none of these generated a response:
Lost&Found@PerplexCity.com,

MORE INFO ABOUT AUTORESPONDERS (FOR US THAT AREN'T SO TECH)

I have found a site http://www.knowplace.org/infobot.html that talks about an autoresponder that works in exactly this way, normally used to send out information on a request basis. The most interesting thing is that it sugests responding to the Subject line not the To line. In this case, it then allows for different responses to be sent depending on the Subject. (Uses precedence: junk). This particular autoresponder is not case sensitive, but is character sensitive (eg using : or ?).

I have tried the following Subject: lines unsuccessfully
URGENT AND PERSONAL
221545484848465100503215
URGENT AND PERSONAL RECEDA
PERSONAL RECEDA
URGENT RECEDA

Following Wishi-san's suggestion I have also tried, together and separately, with both high importance and personal (sorry no luck).

It looks like the web hosting company that perplexcity.com is hosted with include autoresponders as part of their hosting. See this page, where it mentions "mail recipes" being used to determine how to respond.

Also, from my own experience with autoresponders, you can set them up to respond to any word or phrase in the To, Subject, or Body of the message, and reply with text, html, or even attachments.
