I thought it was a bit excessive - a new thread on its own might've been sufficient. Smile

Endearingly excessive, perhaps. Wink I thought it was a wee bit silly, but Clayfoot's enthusiasm was rather cute.

Y'all seriously need to go blow some stuff up. Not me, though. I have presents for each and every one of you.

I wanna go!

My available dates are very limited howeve -- I'll be in Chicago for a conference happening March 15-19 and am already planning to stay extra days for sightseeing. Soo I can either come in March 11 (for the March 11-13) date, or leave March 20 (and would be available the afternoon of March 19 through the 20th).

Unfortunately I need to book my flight by midnight EST to take advantage of the Independence Air sale. Right now I'm looking at booking March 13-20, unless a definitive hivemeet date is set before midnight, in time for me to change flight dates. Very Happy

Eeek! I'm honestly not sure we can decide in that short a time, Alaranth, although I would love to meet you personally...

Well, even if the meet doesn't work out for me, I'm totally game for meeting you and anybody else who's around for coffee or dinner or something!

I had a great reply to this entire thing when my net connection crapped out and didn't save my reply.

Phaedra wrote:

As the public post you made obviously stems from your opinion of the appropriateness of Clayfoot's actions, it would appear that you clearly felt your feelings were publicly relevant enough to make them public.

It's not what I felt, it's what I thought. Opinion doesn't always necessarily have to do with feeling.

Phaedra wrote:

Perhaps, but I would vote for a "better safe than sorry" approach. Honestly, it's just information, and it's contained in one post per thread, for a grand total of 8 posts out of the 56224 in the ILB forums. Did reading the post multiple times actually cause you any substantive stress or harm?

Well, I disagree. I'd rather have the forum Halo 2 Discussion be about Halo 2 discussion. The posts here don't come free, and somebody has to pay for the spam. I thank you for your concern about my well being.

Phaedra wrote:

That's an unfair and unnecessarily hostile interpretation of the post. The actual text contained in Clayfoot's crosspost was simply a pointer to this thread, in which I invited the forum to a get-together in Chicago. Again, I fail to see how an invitation causes substantive stress or harm to anyone. If you're not interested in attending or unable to do so, I would think the obvious action to take would be to ignore the post, as it is clearly irrelevant to you. Again, I don't see why it would even merit comment, in that case.

Consider it a lesson on internet etiquette.

Phaedra wrote:

Further, its irrelevance to you doesn't mean it was necessarily irrelevant to everyone participating in that particular thread.

I'll say it again since it was missed the first time: the people who care will see this thread or the thread in the general forum. There is no need to have 8 damn posts saying PARTY TIME WOO WOO.

Phaedra wrote:

I fail to see how it differs, in any particular thread, from any other temporary thread hijack. And yet generally those don't get "keep it where it belongs" comments.

It differs because at least those generally have something to contribute to the thread they're in, or are at least remotely related to the topic of the forum that they're in.

Phaedra wrote:

I also fail to see why we're even having this discussion. The posts have been made. What goal are you hoping to accomplish?

My goal is to stop anyone who would think that such an action is "cute" or otherwise okay to think about what they're doing before they go ahead and do it.

Archon, I seriously think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. So I'm not going to fan the flames by addressing your last post point-by-point. Also, since you're worried about bandwidth, this particular line of discussion has already used more posts than Clayfoot put out, there, so perhaps for the sake of keeping your expressed opinion and your behavior consistent, if you really feel it's necessary to keep discussing why this bothers you so much, it should be via PM. I'll leave it at this:

Of all the people here qualified to instruct us in Internet etiquette, or at least Unfiction etiquette, I think the obvious choices are the moderators, a select group to which you do not belong. Seeing as they have neither openly (or to the best of my knowledge, privately) rebuked Clayfoot nor deleted or otherwise moderated his posts, the obvious tacit message is that the posts do not significantly violate any rules of forum etiquette.

I'm not sure what in particular about these posts gets under your skin so much, but clearly if they did bother anyone else, no one else thought it significant enough to comment. Let alone to keep commenting.

So, again, if you don't feel the posts apply to you, why not move on?

Even so, the invitation includes even you. Razz

On to more important things... Rolling Eyes

Chicagoans! (By which I mean actual residents of the Chicagoland area, this time...) Do you think if I sold my soul to the Sable & Shuck people, they could get me tickets to Spamalot?

Seriously, anyone know of any ticket leads?

That would be lovely. Even if we don't hold the Hivemeet then, I'm sure I can find an excuse to get myself to Chicago that weekend. Smile Krystyn, you going to be around?

On the subject of the crossposting, I thought it was a minor annoyance, but well-intended and not without justification. I do agree that a mountain has been made out of a molehill and realize that I'm probably doing nothing right now but continue a debate which has already ended. Oh well, I felt that my feelings were publicly relevant enough to make them public. Razz

On the subject of the meet itself, I would LOVE to be there. It sounds like a blast. I don't at this point see any way that would be possible though. If an opportunity (and lots of money) somehow presents itself, I'll let yall know.

On the subject of needing to go blow some stuff up, as Krystyn so eloquently put it, I totally agree. I'm on my way to do that right now, in fact. Very Happy
