it gives us a good idea when the guy went missing exactly (we assume shortly after the last diary entry).
i also think that it is going to serve as a new launch pad for new people getting into the game as it very effectively summarises a lot of the things we've been talking about.
breakthrough, but i still have faith in the 21st - winter solstice

WeLL:
I feel somewhat ripped - We were assured that everything 'about my stay here is firmly noted in my journal' - obviously it's not going to be as easy as reading the journal and having our minds click over, so alas - more investigative digging...
Interesting find: One of the last books he recommended was A Universal History of Infamy' by Jorge Luis Borges.... Pathway Travel's destination page for Babel says 'Hitting the headlines again thanks to Borges' short story about our famous library...'
I'm researching around about Borges' stories and will put more up, but I think that the links Jon embedded in the journal will help piece the story together, if not, at least provide us with a password for the door on the mezzanine floor.
edit: http://jubal.westnet.com/hyperdiscordia/library_of_babel.html - found that link during a short bit of websurfing - is a complete translation of Borges' short story, 'The Library of Babel' as mentioned on the Pathway Travel 'Babel' destination page.

I found it particularly noteworthy the way this entry was written:
The 24th of April...
"Reminded me of me, mum and dad at Christmas every year till I moved out. One big happy family."
Did Brigid get adopted after he moved? Somehow I think our hesitance over her is well founded...
Also am I the only one getting entries that drop of mid sentence, one date completely empty, (why enter a date?), and the one section w/ not real ?

This also could have narrowed our search of where Jon went:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
22nd September A list of important places to consider:
Alexandria
Roanoke Island
Oxford?
Villa of the Papyri
Oct. 23
....Their ignorance will be there downfall. Question: How do you get hold of a book that doesn't exist? Anwser: Go to a liabray that doesn't exist either....
[SPEC]Seeing as Jon has already been to one of those places, that leads to 3 possible places where he could have gone.[/SPEC]

[SPEC]Hey guys, I've been lurking for awhile...something is just sticking in my head here. Roanoke Island, and the whole library that doesn't exist. Roanoke was a colony way back that dissappeared without a trace...so... a library in Roanoke wouldn't exist.[/SPEC]

Actually, When John White returned to Roanoke, he did not find one living colonist. The only trace of the colonists found were the letters CRO carved on a tree, and the word CROATON carved on another tree. One of my favorite real life mysteries!

Alexandria - http://www.bede.org.uk/Library2.htm
and the Villa of Papyri http://www.cib.na.cnr.it/mann/museum/papyri.html
are both well known to have had great libraries...

Yeah I forgot about that part. Think it may be connected?

I've been lurking for a while now, trying to figure out how these ARGs work. Guess I'm hooked on this one now.
While reading Jon's journal, I noticed this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
11th August
Bad News/Good News
Sable & Shuck sent me an email today.
I am assuming the date - FRIDAY 13th - is no coincidence.
Is there a reason why Jon would be writing about receiving an email on "FRIDAY 13th" when it was only the 11th (which would have been a Wednesday)?
Or maybe I'm just missing something here...

Question: How do you get hold of a book that doesn't exist? Anwser: Go to a libray that doesn't exist either....
This was written on October 23rd, well after Jon had discovered Sable & Shuck and their subsidiaries, including Pathway Travel. Jon also purchased "Labyrinths: Selected Stories and Other Writings" on July 10th. The book contains the story of The Library of Babel.
After seeing Babel as one of Pathway's destinations, maybe he decided to try and retrieve the Book of Stars there. After all, the Hilbert Hotel guest book mentions a missing book...

never mind the fact that an author that keeps cropping up in this game wrote a short story about the library of babel

This could just be a coincidence, but did anyone else notice that the blank entry in the journal is on 20th April?

I've tried this as the the code for Jon's contract and the mezzanine with no luck. Could there be such a thing as a cooincidence in this game??

jonharker.com On the July 10th entry, Jon wrote that his name had already been used as a domain name; this is the site that only contains a picture of Jon's glasses. He had also mentioned that he needed to get new glasses, but was reluctant to as he liked his current pair so much. I wonder if there is any significance to this?
Also, on the Amazon website , it suggests that you purchase "The Aleph" along with the "Labyrinths..." book Jon purchased. It seems even Amazon wants us to solve this thing!
