EOTW -- Email on the disk

Wes may be glacially slow in responding, but at least his emails are actually about the mail you wrote, rather than generic --

To summarize -- Dale had Wes' tape of the disk. Don't know if it was wiped out in the fire.
The guy who bought the disk wants to get rid of it again. Should we be pooling resources to buy it?

Elder

Here is Wes' mail and the original that spawned it --

Randy:
Unfortunately, all I have from my finding the disc was a home movie clip I
shot, a clip that's on a VHS-C tape that I gave to Dale. He was going to
transfer it into a format that he could put up on the web. He was actually
quite mad that I sold the damn thing before he could actually look at it but he couldn't say anything when I told him how much money that guy offered for it. I honestly don't know if the tape was in Dale's house when the fire ocurred or if he might have taken to his office where he has a lot of hos work computers and stuff. If he took it there it may be OK yet. There's also the chance he has it on him, because both Sam and I really think he's OK. They didn't find any bodies in the rubble of his house so we're hoping he either wasn't there or got away.
One more unusual thing, especially considering the timing of your e-mail, the guy who bought the disc from me sent me an e-mail today asking if I would buy it back from him. His message sounded really freaked out or something, saying he didn't know what he was getting into. Weird, huh? The bad thing is, there's no way I can afford to give him back what he paid me for it. I haven't responded to him yet; I was hoping to talk to Dale about it and find out why he thought it was so freaking important before I made any decisions.

> Maybe ya know us folks helping Dale can read his emails; maybe ya didn't. But I saw what ya wrote him last night about selling the disk, and then getting visited by those weird guys. So even though it doesn't seem like gettin' rid of the thing was a good idea, maybe they woulda taken it from ya anyway.
>
> Anyway, do you have any idea who this other fella who bought it was? Your email seemed ta indicate that he'd been in previously to look at it. Any chance he paid with a credit card or a check? Or maybe signed the mailing list? While I'm glad it wasn't in the store for yer encounter last night, it sure would be good if we had some idea where that item is in case it proves to be more important than we know right now.

eliminate the middle man!

Heh. Get the email address from Wes, cut him out of the loop, and then personally contact the customer. We could get more data that way.

Same e-mail info regarding disc

I have received the same e-mail about the disc, whith additional info (or, actually, lack of info) regarding the tree under which it was found. You can read the email here (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=907) - bare tree picture at Klepsydra.

How come Wes can't buy the disc back? Has he spent that huge amount of money already? I'm writing him about this, and also asking him to provide us with the seller's email address (as suggested by dmax).

Dear Wes,

Thank you for your reply. To bad you couldn't find the tree under which you found the disc. But then again - not the first time things seem to vanish around here. Let's just pray for Dale's safety, and also that he managed to keep the tape safe from the fire.

Regarding buying back the disc, I think that it should be seriously considered. I would even imagine that the current owner might sell it for less than he bought it, if he is in such a hurry to get rid of it. As we are a couple of people trying to help Dale in whatever possible way, I'm sure that we joining forces could at least make the current owner a fair offer. And without snooping into your private life (Wes, I surely hope you won't be offended now), I assume that you haven't spent all that money you got from selling the disc in the first place. Maybe we could all work together on this one?

I'm afraid that the same people involved in the fire at Dale's house might be looking for the disc, so time is precious. I understand that you want to discuss this with Dale, but I believe we should act fast, while we have the chance to get the disc back.

Could you provide me with the guys e-mail address? I do not intend to contact him or anything, but maybe his address could give us some clue on who he is or what his objectives are (I know, it's a long shot).

Awaiting your swift reply,

Best regards,
Sal Las
