Similar emails started appearing late last year in my various inboxes. They've been discussed in this thread since November.

Spam porn/trojans are almost like rabbit holes these days...

I just found this in my inbox... I know it's not a game, but I just had to post the text here. It's relevant!!!

Always good for a giggle, I agree, but probably better off in the thread at the top of this very forum:
Could that IM or email be a trailhead, or SPAM?

Found this in my spamcatcher over at Hotmail. The only reason it caught my attention is because of the mention of Mr. Dobbs and with Catching the Wish getting ramped up to run I thought this deserved a mention (mods, please move this to the CTW threa if it does belong there!) since it had a "shades of the MIB" vibe to it.

This is a completely faked header.

We can do that too.

Keep sleeping, America.

We're everywhere, ok? We enjoy any number of means of manifestation.

Yesterday I was a truck driver with a paunch. Today I'm the hot mom 2 doors down the street.

Often I am cranky and irritable from lack of sleep, from temporal hangover, from chain smoking as I watch you from a parked car.

The patch is a microphone. Contact-transducer type. Exotic, had its origins in 80's military tech.

We'll be in contact again.

Edit by Addlepated - one of the header lines still had Mage's address.

I recently recieved this email:

'Who's drunk? ' asked Rimsky and they stared at each other again. There was no doubt that some lunatic or practical joker was telegraphing from Yalta. But the strange thing was--how did this wit in Yalta know about Woland, who had only arrived in Moscow the evening before? How did he know of the connection between Likhodeyev and Woland? '" Hypnosis ",' muttered Varenukha, repeating one of the words in the telegram. ' How does he know about Woland? ' He blinked and suddenly shouted firmly : ' No, of course not. It can't be! Rubbish! ' 'Where the hell has this man Woland got to, damn him? ' asked Rimsky. Varenukha at once got in touch with the tourist bureau and announced to Rimsky's utter astonishment that Woland was staying in Likhodeyev's flat. Having then dialled Likhodeyev's flat yet again, Varenukha listened for a long time as the ringing tone buzzed thickly in the earpiece. In between the buzzes a distant baritone voice could be heard singing and Varenukha decided ipln lol lm rlgm q mskjmhm qml mgmki j m nmimf s qnpn r nhnt o lo jototokoqqlof oko noiomshotogo h g s jukhj okojujim fklkuk hks k ognkjk mkj sdjksdfsdfsdlgkj sdflkjsdf lksdjfsdfsdf

What is wierd is that the email isnt' adressed to me, nor is the intended adress similar to mine, other than it is a gmail account. How it trails off at the end also leads me to believe it is something else at hand here. Normally, spam emails would be filtered out, as well. Any ideas, or has this been discussed here already?

Spam! This is an excerpt from Master and Margarita -- and they used it as filler for "advanced penile medication" spam?! Hmf!

What i don't understand about these messages is how I block images from coming in (via Thunderbird) and still get these images coming through.

By using inline images... if you look at the source it might say
Code:
<img src=cid:lotsofhex>

Because it's not an image on a server somewhere, but just another MIME attachment, it gets stored locally... the HTML to display the image is mime encoded as well so passes any filters.. if they're not encoded then you can block them with a regex or something, but then you lose all valid e-mail with any images or mime parts (breaks HTML e-mails).

You'll get the same problem in any client, and even on gmail or hotmail. Spam sucks.

So... I was at the bar tonight (so forgive any poor spelling as Im now drunk), when I got two text messages at 931 PM EST.

Text 1: "The days of glory shall soon return."

Text 2: "You have been warned."

They were delivered viua Secure Channel IM (using AOL IM) .. so I have no idea who sent them (an attempt to text the sender back just siad he/she wasnt available.)

So.. either a friend is playing a joke on me, or this is a trailhead message.

There was none. Theres an ID number, but I think thats what SecureChannelIM (I have to look it up for sure) does... it masks screenames.

The whole text of one looks liek this

"From:265060
SecureChannel IM: (using AOL IM)
You have been warned
Wed, Apr 5 9:31pm"

Sounds suspicously trailheadlike to me... or like you said, a freind playing a joke.

Unfortunatley, i have no idea how to figure out who sent it...
