De Greko

Found this posting re the company referred to in the attachment.
http://www.voipuser.org/forum_topic_4886.html. This includes a link to a press release http://www.marketwire.com/mw/release_html_b1?release_id=112295

The company itself is here http://www.degreko.com/index.php.

Doesn't immediately feel like a game. The only thing really noticeable is that all the postings, (forum/news items) are only a few months old and the sites seem fairly new. But I can't imagine what sort of game would start with this kind of setup.

[ARG/SPAM?] You Have To Decide...

Ok, I got this email a few days ago (4, to be exact, I was away fro my computer)

It looks like any 'ol junk mail but if you look closer, it has some ARG qualities. For one, it didn't get caught by gmail's all knowing SPAM filter. There's some random 0's, ARGish indeed. It doesn't ask for anything beyond the most basic info. The entire email is written mysteriously, if they were trying to sell something, they'd most likely try to push it on the reader.

I tried sending the email, but I got an delivery failure notice, from both email adresses

Anyway, here it is, decide for yourselves.

Maam/Sir:

My name is Lester, and the reason for this
email is that you and I might share something in comm0n.

At some point in our lives many of us have contemplated
or tried to start a h0me busi.ness. Don't worry; I'm not
trying to sell you anything. I just want to ask you a
simple question?

If I helped you start a part-time busi.ness from your
h0me and in two years you retired... Would you send me a
Thank You card?"

If your answer is yes then please

reply to: lester_c77SPLATyahoo.com.ph

with a subject

"Show_Me_The_Way"

and the following inf0rmation in the body of your email.

1. Full Name
2. Email Address
3. Country

and you can see how I can help you achieve this in 2 years.

If your answer is no then please drop me a blank mail.

I hope you will at least take the next step and take a look.
It's fun and there is abs0lutely no binding on your part
for this inf0rmation.

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Sorry about this, I never really checked out this thread, thought it was something else...

Ah, so I'm not the only one that got this De Greko thing and went straight to unfiction for answers. The first one set off the ARG-sense, and the second one's just unnerving. Weird stuff. No answers from me, yet, haven't even peered down the rabbit hole. Just checking if it was just me.

edit: Since it doesn't appear to have been mentioned, I'd gotten another one a coupla days ago from a Jesse Rollins with subject "high-class" and nothing but an image of the same color with the filename disparaging.gif with the following text:
Quote:
Investor Alert - WE HAVE A RUNNER !
Big news expected.

The one I got today was as posted.

The DeGreko stuff and others like it are spam. I have received roughly half a a bajillion emails just like it telling me about how this or that company is rising star.

Audioslave, your stuff sounds like spam too. The reason for the 0s and periods would be to bypass a spam filter (think C!4Li$).

Sounds like more spam. Was there any other indication that this may by an ARG or just this one email?

a quick google search turned up about 6 pages of links calling little Mrs. Rita a scammer. What I do find odd is the size of the above posters avatar. Holy FanBoy Batman.

[SPAM] not a Possible ARG

I recently recieved an Uncaught Bounce Notification in my email. At first I thought nothing of it but then look at the contents and noticed a vaguely ARG feel to the message. Considering I didn't send the message contianed in the bounce i was suspicious so I read through it a bit. With english poems and 'gibberish letters' afterwards. It also contains a link to a password-box. Maybe its nothing, anyone else have an opinion?

I think it's random words to get past spam filters -- it's mentioned on a couple sites:

http://www.bearla.com/talk/

http://www.lostatsea.net/feature.phtml?fid=342388793445b8b29764d1

It looks like someone may have spoofed your E-mail address or something so you ended up looking like the source.

Very odd.... Im not the master at cyphers, but could someone decode the last bit?

(If it is a cypher)

It's spam for sure. Unless it's an ARG about spam.

The encoding is the spammy image.. and the link takes you to an enlargement site. Oh and by the way by visiting the link you confirmed your e-mail address to spammers because of the ipvl part.. you should edit your post and take the link out.

As has already been said, it's spam. I tried to decode the JPG anyway but the end of it was cut off. Still, what I do have is here: http://matrix.theblob.org/spamjpg.jpg .

But yeah, definitely spam.

Dear ,

Thanks so much for your reply to my mail, and i wish you safe journey i will will still insist that i wait till you come back for i was directed to you by my spirit and i know you will be of good help to me, is you i need help from and not from any of your friends,

I am Mrs. Rita Diatta . I am contacting you with the hope that you will be of great assistance to me, I currently have within my reach the sum of 5.3 million U.S dollars cash which I intend to use for investment purposes. I therefore personally appeal to you seriously and religiously for your urgent assistance to move this money in to your country where I believe it will be safe since I cannot leave the country due to the restriction of movement imposed on the members of my family by the Senegal Government.

This money came as a result of a payback contract deal between my husband and a Russian firm in our country. The Russian partners returned my husbands share .Presently, the Government has intensified their probe in to my husbands financial resources which has led to the freezing of all our accounts, local and foreign, the revoking of all our business licences and the arrest of my First son.In view of this I want to acted very fast to withdraw this money from one of our finance houses before it will be closed down.My husband deposited the money in a finance firm for safe keeping . No record is known about this fund by the government because there is no documentation showing that we have such funds.

Further more, my elder son have been in detention in the last four years following the death of my late husband for charges of State organized murder and corrupt practices which my husband died in detention. My son was just been released by the Supreme Court after the president brokered a deal with my family regarding his freedom. and he is still under interrogation about my late husband's assets and some vital documents.Due to the current situation in the country and government attitude to my family,I cannot make use of this money within, thus I seek your help in transferring this funds out for investment than leaving the fund here and to invest the money to profit my family Bearing in mind that you may assist me.l have decided to part with 25% of the total sum.

I am seriously considering to settle down abroad in a friendly atmosphere like yours as soon as this fund get into your account so that I can start all over again if only you wish. I shall ask my son Mohammed to come over to your country to liaise with you. If this proposal satisfies you. please do not let me out to the security as I am giving you this information in total trust and confidence.

Please kindly reply by return mail and please include your personal telephone and fax numbers. Conclusively,we have decided part with 25% of the total sum. of the total sum,10% will be for expenses incurred during thecause of this transaction, while 65% is to be held on trust by you until we can decide on a suitable business investment in your country subsequent to our free movement by the Senegal Government.

I will greatly appreciate if you accept my proposal in good faith.

Regards and God Bless you.

Depends what you call spam - scam is more like. Can be fun playing these people around - keeps them off the true innocents!
