[Halo 2] [CROSSPOST] Chicago Hivemeet!

Hello, everyone!

The Chicago beekeepers (and by "Chicago beekeepers" I mean those who attended/would have attended the Live event in Chicago) are planning a spring meetup. We haven't set a definite date yet, so if you might be in the area at some time this spring and are interested in attending, please let us know so we can include you in the scheduling. We're currently doing a Condorcet (stop your snickering Smile ) poll to decide on a date, so if you'd like to be added to the voting list, please email me at Phaedra777(at)gmail(dot)com.

The sooner you can let us know, the better, so we can allow enough time for everyone who's coming from afar to plan their trips.

Good idea: perhaps we should mention who's coming, or at least, trying to come.

Me, krystyn, Angelo, Clayfoot, Robogriff, Twilight, SuperDunner, Ermac, DiscipleN2K, atdt, Dream of the Rood...

...okay, that's all I can remember. The rest of you are going to have to speak for yourselves. Wink

In particular, these three dates are tied for first place. If we don't get more votes, the only fair way to choose one of them is to choose randomly. Of course, if everyone who wants to go actually votes this time, we could conceivably end up with a completely different date alone in first place.

You should definitely do that.

Clayfoot... for the sake of all that is holy STOP. It's one thing to crosspost this in another form, it's entirely other thing to freakin' spam it in every damn thread you can find. Just because you say you're sorry doesn't make it okay.

I'm sorry you feel that way, archon. We're trying to not to exclude anyone. If the game were still on, we would probably only have posted the notice in the General forum. However, since the game is over and it's likely that some people are only checking one or two threads at this point, in the interest of reaching the maximum number of people, we felt the most efficient strategy was to post a notice in the remaining threads that still show significant activity.

So, I have to ask: do you really feel that the momentary annoyance you or another member of the community might feel at seeing Clayfoot's post multiple times outweighs the interest of making sure that those who may want to attend the event are made aware of it?

What I feel is irrelevant to anyone but myself. The people who are interested in such a gathering will either see your crosspost or the general forum's post you made, or maybe they'll hear it when they go online to play with you guys.

What is not necessary is finding every single thread in which discussion that is of a completely different topic but which conversation still exists actively is spammed needlessly with HAY GUYZ WE'RE GONNA PARTY HARDY IN CHICAGO.

Seriously, it's cool that you guys want to get together, and I'm fine with that. Keep it where it belongs, though.

As the public post you made obviously stems from your opinion of the appropriateness of Clayfoot's actions, it would appear that you clearly felt your feelings were publicly relevant enough to make them public.

Perhaps, but I would vote for a "better safe than sorry" approach. Honestly, it's just information, and it's contained in one post per thread, for a grand total of 8 posts out of the 56224 in the ILB forums. Did reading the post multiple times actually cause you any substantive stress or harm?

That's an unfair and unnecessarily hostile interpretation of the post. The actual text contained in Clayfoot's crosspost was simply a pointer to this thread, in which I invited the forum to a get-together in Chicago. Again, I fail to see how an invitation causes substantive stress or harm to anyone. If you're not interested in attending or unable to do so, I would think the obvious action to take would be to ignore the post, as it is clearly irrelevant to you. Again, I don't see why it would even merit comment, in that case.

Further, its irrelevance to you doesn't mean it was necessarily irrelevant to everyone participating in that particular thread.

I fail to see how it differs, in any particular thread, from any other temporary thread hijack. And yet generally those don't get "keep it where it belongs" comments.

I also fail to see why we're even having this discussion. The posts have been made. What goal are you hoping to accomplish?

Sign me up tentatively. I'm always up for it, but I do have a wife and a new baby. Both of whom see little use in ARGing.. Rolling Eyes So if I'm free, I'm there. If I'm not, I'm not. Hope to be there, though.
