Same here. I'm thinking the All American Meal looks sufficient, though.

Funny thing! I was talking to my wife about the place we're going on Friday night and being the idiot-without-memory I am, I completely forgot we've been to that place before! Laughing I've been to Chicago only once, like 4 years ago and at that time, a friend of my wife suggested we went to Ed Debevics and so we did. Not surprised I didn't remember the place when you mentioned the name, but I'm surprised I didn't remember after you described the place! Cool place and I don't mind going there again at all! And no, it's not exactly like Jack Rabbit Slims from Pulp Fiction, which I just watched for the umpth time ...

I can make it to the Friday dinner. I shall be happy regardless of which option is chosen.

At this point it looks like I'll be present on Friday - however, if due to some last-minute change of plans I can't make it, and somebody winds up having to pay ahead of time, I will be happy to reimburse said person even if I can't attend. So count me in for dinner/lunch/whatever.

Ed Debevics sounds cool, and I have finally begun seeing if my best friend will be my travel buddy. *kicks procrastination*

Question: Are there any group events planned that would have an age restriction on them, for us 16-17 year olds? Like, bars or stuff that they wouldn't let us into?

Not that I know of. I've been sort of avoiding the whole bar thing for that reason, which is why I am checking out a couple of non-bar karaoke places, etc.

And, as far as 'group events' go, I'd just like to say that if there's something you want to do, you should go do it! This is not real convention-type thing, you know? We're just gathering to hang out, real casual-like, and there are NO obligations to attend a particular outing that someone wants to do. There is no reason for you to spend money or go places you don't want to go.

So, this leaves some of the planning up to you guys, too. I've done what I can on the website to suggest some of the most basic/popular/cheap/cool touristy things one might wish to do, but I, personally, am looking most forward to seeing all you lovely beekeepers.

Have at it.

Water100:

I guess the thing is, I don't want to just end up "somewhere in the chicago area", I want to end up in a hotel with beekeepers, at the cheapest price!

I don't really care how I do it, I don't care where I go, or what the amenities are. A) inexpensive room. B) near beekeepers.

The next person who tells me where they're staying and a way to get a room inexpensively, I'm there!

If anyone from the acen hotel can give me a lift, I'll definitely go with you and whoever else is seeing the gameon exhibit. I'm a sucker for that stuff ;p

I also know there's a store owned around there somewhere by a man named Sean Kelly, who is a fairly well known man in the video game collecting circles...he supposedly has a crazy selection of games and hardware for sale. I can get the address if anyone is interested.

Can I get a show of hands for a HALO 2 LAN party on Saturday, May 14th?

Location options:
Krystyn's apartment (You did volunteer, didn't you?)
Incyr's/Silrn's/Fenwicked's/Clayfoot's hotel room at the anime convention hotel
Rent & reserve a meeting room, possibly at the convention hotel.
Gaming center (like DMZ in Schaumburg)

Xbox equipment options:
Bring XBoxen on the road
Rent XBoxen from Blockbuster, etc.
Use XBoxen at a gaming center

Video equipment options:
If Krytyn's apartment, assume at least 1 TV in house, and lug 1+ TV's up the apartment.
Incyr's/Silrn's/Fenwicked's/Clayfoot's hotel room: 1 TV in room, and lug a few more up to it. Perhaps, the hotel could loan us a few more TV's...?
Rented meeting room: Lug 2+ TV's to the meeting room
Gaming center: All equipment provided

I'll do what I can from here. Would the Chicago-area people be so kind as to shop prices for equipment and for rooms in the area? Incyr, what are the chances that the anime convention people would let us use some of their display/projection equipment to play Halo? Can anyone bring one or more projectors?

Ummmm.... Given that I'm not on convention staff, I can't give a "for sure" answer, but I think I'm pretty confident that NO is what they'll say. ACEN is the biggest Anime convention in the mideast, and I'm willing to bet that all their equipment is being used most of the time. Besides that, I'm almost positive they're renting most of their projectors, and there is NO reason they would be willing to lend it to a few of the convention goers, especially to do something non-convention related.

Also, I vote against my hotel room. It's going to be pretty crowded as is, I'm not sure we can fit that many people into it.

I'd vote Krystyn's place or a gaming center. I'm pretty sure that ACEN will take up most of the rooms at the convention center, leaving few rooms to rent. Not to mention I have no clue what a room at a convention center goes for, but I'm willing to bet it's more than the cost of a few hours at a local gaming center, or the price of snacks and gifts to bribe the lovely Krystyn to let us use her place.

The anime convention hotel will rent us a TV for use in the sleeping room for $57.50/day. BTW, that's 50% off the usual rate, because of the anime convention. I'll assume 4 XBoxen, 4 players per XBox. We'll need 4 XBoxen and 3 extra TV's, assuming one TV in the room. That's $172.50 for the TV's, and we bring the XBox consoles and Halo 2 game discs. 16 people can play at a time. With 45 people on the guest list, we could play 16 at a time, or about 1/3 per round.

Dividing up the TV rentals among the players:
45 people: $172.50/45 = $3.83 each

If just 16 people want to play: $172.50/16 = $10.78 each

12 people (just 2 extra TV's): $115/12 = $9.58 each

8 people (1 extra TV): $57.50/8 = $7.19 each

On the phone, the hotel quoted me the rate above for in-sleeping-room TV's. They did say they would have some available for that purpose, especially if rented in advance. However, I can live with keeping the sleeping room off limits for a LAN party. I figured I would be the first to fall asleep anyway.

Well, then.

I take back most of my last post. I still maintain that I think the room would be rather crowded for everyone.... but if others in the room are willing, I don't really have THAT much of a problem with it.

I still think it'd be cheaper to bribe Krystyn, though. Wink
