I put in 35, and it did not accept, said I could resubmit if I increased the sum by 9 dollars, but if I wanted to submit for less than that, I had to change some options. I put in 44, and got the wyndham.

I think you could have closed the browser and tried again. I tried a lot of times to get a hotel in downtown for about 80-90/night and after 2-3 trials, I'd close the browser and try again, with some other options.

I was checking google maps and your hotel is less than 2 miles from the Hyatt. Still pretty close! I don't think there'll be any problems!

Hey everyone:

I know it's getting a bit close, but the friend I was planning on driving to Chicago with (and also the one who had a place to STAY in Chicago) has bailed on me, so is there anyone who'd be willing to share their hotel room with an web-centric 16-year old guy? I can't make any promises (have to sell this new plan to the 'rents, too), but if it works out I'd be happy to contribute... something... to the cost of a room.

But you know... it'd be cool if there was any room with someone who isn't... creeeepy. Razz

I'd volunteer, but in lieu of spending $100+ on a hotel room, if I decide I need sleep at some point during the weekend, I'll probably find a nice big quiet carport and sleep in the van like last year Smile

More information:

I'll be taking Amtrak in from Toledo (fairly close to ann arbor), arriving at Union Station around 10 am on Friday. My girlfriend will be arriving Saturday at some point, and we'll both be leaving by train at 7pm on Sunday. It's all lovely and romantic, really.

I called Wyndham, and they said that in order to get there from Union, I merely had to take the Blue Line to O'hare and take their shuttle from there. Can any of you Chicago people confirm that? Is the Blue Line right by Union?

That is, of course, if I don't hitch a ride from one of you fine O'hare-hotelling folk while I'm there.

Just because I like to be useful, here's a map of the Metra system stops, which some of you might find useful.

I'm actually looking forward to the time on the train. I will be out dancing the night before (wingman for my long-single buddy, actually), so I'll be nestled in my seat, visions of air-raid sirens and talking vending machines in my head.

There's something really frickin' cool about arriving into town by train and taking public transport around. I like the independence of it, and I'm certain I'll love the lack of parking fees. I'm looking forward to some much-needed social time, now that classes are done.

Didja know it's been at least three weeks since I've played a ranked game on XBL? Bleh!

The Blue Line is about 3/4 mile east of Union Station. Walk out to Jackson, and catch a 151 or a 7 bus, I think, take that to ... Dearborn? Lemme check.

Yes, OK. Yes -- catch a 151, or a 7, or a 126, or a 28 ... the stops vary, in terms of which side of US you'll board each bus - check this map for details.

$1.75 for the initial fare, and then $.25 for the transfer when you go down to the Blue Line.

When you get off the bus at Dearborn, you can turn right and walk about a half block - you'll see the blue-railed stairwell leading down.

Clear? As mud?

Thanks for the map, Krystyn. It looks like the 151 goes right down Michigan (a block away from my hotel!) and into Union... that'll make getting back to the station a lot simpler than I'd feared. Better than I'd hoped, actually... kinda expected to have to transfer somewhere or take a cab.

-- Steve'll delve deeper into the CTA site later... finding routes to the museum district, for instance, or other nifty places.

That's an awesome map! Thanks a bunch, Krystyn.

One question: wouldn't it be easier for me to walk south 2 blocks to the Clinton stop on Blue?

Um, yes.

(ETA: gosh, that's really embarrassing. I looked right at the map and thought of my own commute, instead of DURR THE MOST OBVIOUS THING. please forgive, I am apparently having a day.)

*grin* ain't no thang. By the way, if you want to use those maps I uploaded on the site, you're more than welcome to do so.

_My_ day sucks ass because my two-desk job just became a one-desk job, the one where the walls are 4 feet tall, the secretary sits -right- next to me and I can't keep my eyes open because it's unbearably boring. Woo hoo!

Eek, haven't checked here in a bit. Just did a crapload of reading in this thread. I hope it isn't too late, Krystyn, to count me in for the Ed's thing. Whatever option everyone else is choosing would be fine. And I'm definitely in for the Fogo thing, too. And breakfast on Sunday. If I'm going to be expected to sing karaoke, I'll have to be pretty well liquored up first. And if that's the case, I think I'll be needing that bottomless coffee the next morning. Smile

News!

briefly, since I am about to go blow stuff up, but I will provide full 411 here and at the website within the next day ...

Triad is our karaoke spot. Just went there for dinner with my friend Ian, and I really like the place. So, yay!

Also, not enough people have really committed to Ed's for a party package deal, so I belieeeeeeeve we're just gonna show up in a massive geeky clump, and take it from there. Order what you want, and tip well, and we'll be just dandy. Smile We're still going to Ed's, but you won't need to worry about a dinner price or anything. Got it? Good.

So, to summarize: we have a karaoke spot, and Ed's is still Friday night, but not a reserved party thing.

Rock on!

Yay Fenwicked!

i don't know who of you out there helped out, but Dasro Kast just told me that he's raised enough money to get me a plane ticket! Very Happy
as you know, medical bills have kinda sorta beat us down pretty hard in the last month or so, but our spirits are lifted at everyone's generosity. It really touches Autumn and I. So thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you.

i'll see you all next weekend

Smile

p.s. thank you

BTW

It was excellent to play with you all the other night. Smile Playing with Beekeepers is ALWAYS, ALWAYS more fun than playing matchmaking. Brings a tear to my eye, it does. *sniff*

I'm glad you all dig "nades and fists". It's not so great when you only have two people, but with 6 or more, it's a blast!

(get it?! hah! I kill me!)

With a gametype named "nades and fists", I believe you. Razz
