[SPEC?]side-Q: Furniture in marchant's image? OK, you all remember the page (http://www.perplexcity.com/2718281828/) that lead us to the error logs, right?
So, I was looking at it *again*, and looked at the two css stylesheets that make the trick of the 'hidden' text appear when you try and print it.
So, if you look at those two css file (print.css and screen.css), you might notice, as I did, that they define 2 styles: #marchant and #furniture.
back to the page, check source, and, indeed, we have a marchant div and a furniture div. Nothing incredibly surprising,
except....
..except...why would they call the second div 'furniture' ?
Anyone ?

Hmmmm, maybe they'd just been looking at Jay's avatar. Cubic furniture anyone?
Or maybe it's just an alternative word for 'foo'?
Or perhaps we should be looking for clues at Ikea and Habitat?

Haha, I love my pillow cube
Furniture: n. furnishings that make a room or other area ready for occupancy
Was this making the world of Perplex City ready for occupancy?
Or is there a technical term using a more obscure form of the word, like the way the word "furniture" is used in horse and firearm terminology.

Well, I've never seen 'furniture' used in place of 'foo'.. I mean, if it had been 'bar' or 'foobar', or some other commonly used word (heck, I did not look up 'helloworld' once we found it in the postcard , but... 'furniture' ?!??
Sure, it brings up the idea of something usually in the background, and usually utilitarian, that is not necessarily the center of attention... but it'd be the first time I see 'furniture' used instead of 'foo'.

Possibly !
Actually, if the firebox catalogue was a furniture catalogue, this could make much more sense to me...

Hmmm... yeah, in a sense.....and indeed one could say that the furniture-related stylesheet certainly was used in this direction...

? ok, I'm ignorant in that regard, let me go look it up !
Aside from that, I wonder if this is a clue, or if it will become a clue... maybe it's YAT-TDNMSN-BIW (*) !
just to bring up a simple example...could 'furniture' be a key to decipher the yet-undeciphered long number on the postcard?
Or maybe it will be the key to unlock a yet-unpublished coded message...

OH-SLASH ! Of course, I figured searching for furniture and syzygy would not yield much.
Well, actually it lead me to this section of e-bay.com (not .uk :
http://stores.ebay.com.au/SYZYGY-CLOTHING-ACCESSORIES
but I'll be darn if anything seems to connect this to our ARG (except, maybe, their logo!).
I mean, I see a few 'cue' items, but no 'cube' item...sigh

The explanation of the Marchant 148 page:
The .css stylesheets are that way because you can see the "secret" message by PRINTING the page.
If fact, the page says:
"I can no longer trust that which I witness. I shall not put stock in images lit before me. I MUST HOLD IT. I mast have it in my bare hands."
translate into ->
The image on the screen is false, get a printed copy.
Nothing else, nothing more.
The only strange thing in this page is the directory: 2718281828
Maybe there are other numerical directories with new pages? Who knows? Maybe we have to wait an email before proceding any further.

Printing issue already covered in other threads as is the directory name, which is the first 10 digits of e (which, as I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not going to discuss again ).
And hands up how many people put Olorin's YAT-TDNMSN-BIW through a Ceasar cipher before they actually read the whole post? Yup, I feel like pretty soon I'm gonna start seeing encrypted messages everywhere

Wow. To me, that makes a LOT of sense. Maybe Project Syzygy has extended to more furniture-realted magazines/stores? Geez... This is gonna be way bigger than I thought.

dredging up the past now. curious oddity that s marchant would indeed reveal a furniture/arts store (antiques more or less), based in london of all places.
hows that for a hum-dinger of a coincidence.
since we have nothing new, id just thought id remind our readers that, that is indeed a blind alley.
ohh and dont forget marchant's cross...
and all those quirky reminders of eulers number..
and that raging maths debate over .999~=1...
my how the time does fly, why we've only been waiting what.. MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MON....

Also whilst searching I found another page for Clapham Old Town with lots of number sequences, I got really excited until I realised it was actually Bus timetables, am I becoming obsessed?!
