Only if you don't love bees.
Ah, ILB.
Verily.

I hope you're not suggesting I steal ideas from other ARGS...

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I wouldn't recommend wholesale theft.
Why not use Katchup, and call your game "I Love Tomatoes"?

"Good artists borrow, great artists steal."
If you see an idea in another ARG that could solve a problem you're having in your own, why not?
As long as you adapt it, make it your own. Blatant copying is boring.

I don't know a lot about I Love Bees to pilch though.

Marge's Tomatoes website, ilovetomatoes.com, is attacked by an AI from a mustard company.....

That can be remedied. All you need to do is listen to all 10+ hours of the audio drama, all the recordings of the live calls, and read all 53263 posts in the ILB forum. Oh, and the 156 or whatever pages of the "ILB players get together on Live" thread.
No biggie.

Over 1 million players.
Oh, you mean you weren't planning on that sort of scale?
Hmm. 198 more posts to go.

No, I have a very small budget, and was planning to use my knowledge of the web and creativity to make up for it. My knowledge of ARGs doesn't go far enough to discover something original enough to hook a fan-base like that.

Ya know, speaking of pilfering stuff from other games, I will say this.....
There's certainly nothing wrong with taking a look at past endeavors not only to give you inspiration, but to see what sorts of things worked well and (perhaps more importantly) what didn't work and why. Was there a particular puzzle that just wasn't solveable? Perhaps it wasn't a well-designed puzzle, and looking at it with the benefit of hindsight can reveal why. How long after an update did players start to lose momentum? How did players know they were on the right track, what sort of in-game feedback were they given? Stuff like that.
So, while I'm certainly not advocating outright plagiarism, I would encourage learning from other peoples' mistakes and successes.

Yeah, that's what I'm currently doing to try and discover ways the player v game interaction works.
