having read the EW article, I can say that the quote is very misleading. It's not necessarily taken out of context, but that's only because there is little context in which to be taken out of.

I'm not going to paste the article here, for fear of getting SpaceBass in trouble for copyright stuff, but I will say that it was a passing quote in the article that was probably pounced on by that website without trying to get any other sources on the quote and without asking for clarification.

If I get an "OKAY" from an admin, I'll post the article, but until then, know that there's really little there, and a mountain is being made out of a molehill.

The Freepers are quite possibly the most evil and despicable people on the planet.

I just found this response on the Seattle Times web site.

The Seattle Times wrote:

Halo goes apolitical

Joe Staten, cinematics director at the Bungie Studios team that created the "Halo 2" video game, irked a few supporters of President Bush recently when he was quoted in an Entertainment Weekly article as saying, "You could look at (the game's story) as a damning condemnation of the Bush administration's adventure in the Middle East."

That generated so much criticism on Free Republic, a conservative Republican discussion site, that Staten posted a response there last week saying the game's story was nonpartisan.

Staten said the Entertainment Weekly reporter left out his closing statement: "Look, you can read anything into the story that you like — call (it) a damning condemnation of the Bush administration's adventure in the Middle East, for example. But you'd be wrong."

All things being considered I hope that the story for the movie is likewise nonpartisan.

GameSpot has a tiny bit more info about this project:

Of course.. on the weekly update today:

Quote:
Billions and billions asked,

I heard Uwe Boll was directing Halo the movie and it was going to star the Taco Bell dog and Paulie Shore. IS THIS TRUE?

Well, the statement above does sound like an "interesting" project, but as ever, if you didn't hear it officially from Microsoft or Bungie Studios, you didn't hear it confirmed. This is Microsoft's official line on the existence or non-existence of a Halo movie:

"Halo is one of the most sought after properties and since the November launch of Halo 2, the interest level has exploded. Halo 2 has now sold more than 6.4 million copies worldwide, bringing the entire Halo franchise to a collective 12.8 million units in just three years' time. We have not, however, made any official movie announcements."

Is that ambiguous PR talk for, "We haven't announced nothin'?" Yes! Why yes it is!

So who really knows? Which place has the scoop.. and the correct scoop at that. I guess we'll just have to wait and see..

In regards to my earlier thoughts on a Halo movie, you may completely disregard them. For one thing, I've slept since then, meaning that whatever thoughts I had on the subject are now moot, null and void. That being said, I hope they never make a Halo movie.

Oh, and a movie directed by Boll and produced by Murphy would surely cause some kind of warp in reality, a rift in space and time caused by the instantly transferable lack of electromagnetic thought in their minds.

I'm willing to give this a shot, in the hope that perhaps it will tell part of the story that the games forgot to. I'm not going to have a heart attack if the movie is terrible either, because, well, they tend to be. Hope for the best and expect the worst.

Someone email 'em Kristen's contact details so she can reprise her role as Durga. Wink

Get ready folks... Fox and Universal have agreed to carry this project.

Here is a link to the news:

Even if the movie sucks, we're in for a ride!

Understanding that the script is already completed, I am left to hope that it is a screenplay based upon The Fall of Reach. Approached as a super-hero type this would be the classic origin story. Multiple plot lines could provide action as Keyes provides the classic space fights while MC handles ground assaults. I agree with everyone here that aside from the script, director may be the most critical piece. With a budget in excess of $100M, though, you don't have to worry about Uwe Boll or Paul Anderson killing the franchise before it gets started.

the biggest problem with making your first HALO movie "the fall is reach", is uh... well, where's.. you know... the HALO?
you'd see a quick flash of it at the end with "to be continued" or something and millions of non-gamers across the country would go "why's it called Halo? that was dumb, im not going to watch the sequel now"

Agreed. I just think an origin story rather than flash backs or no explanation would really help the uninitiated as well as excite fanboys & girls. I personally think seeing a young unmasked MC would also give emotional connection to the main character. Much like in Sith, a highlight could simply be seeing the MC dawn the MJOLNIR and helmet for the first time. Additionally, while I'm sure I would see a HALO movie regardless, I'm not real excited about a movie version of the games or a re-imagining of the story (see DOOM).

It's a tough choice... If they re create the proven concepts and plot twists by retelling Halo:CE (Halo is a weapon... the Forerunner... the Flood), they don't add anything to the story for anyone who's played Halo (sort of like the 2nd Halo book which is the one with weakest sales), but makes it great for anyone getting their first glimpse into Halo. If they come up with something new (Like depicting the Covenant's invasion of Earth), anyone already immersed in Halo would have a blast, but many others would not understand a lot of things. Maybe they should just do a movie based on the ILB plot! No MC, No Halo, no Cortana. (I've given this a lot of thought and it would be an awesome suspense thriller for the thinking man).

About the MC being a faceless soldier behind a mask... it never hurt Vader any.

If there's one thing a Halo movie has going for it is the awesome soundtrack.

Bungie would totally redeem themselves in my eyes if they did this. Of course it would need to be done right. I am a discerning consumer!

Yes. Marty O'Donnell is the only one at Bungie who truly has their shit together.

I could see the movie picking up from either the end of Halo 2, or wherever Halo 3 finishes up. The thing about it being called "Halo"... Could go something like this:

Durga (vo): The year is 2552. Humanity nears enihilation at the hands of the Covenent Space Fleet. In a dramatic attempt to turn the tide of the war away from humanity, the Office of Naval Intel. starts the Spartan II program - super solders designed to finish what a tactical nuke couldn't.
The program was a success beyond all expectations - the 2.0's passed all of the tests that were thrown at them on the military outpost of Reach with flying colors. Then... the Covenent got word of the program, and destroyed Reach, killing all but (what was it, ten?) of the 60. One managed to escape the assult of Reach, and discovered an alien artifact designed to destroy all life in the entire galaxy. *shows the Halo blowing up* We called it the Halo. He destroyed it, preventing the Covenent from using it as a weapon. But the war was not yet over. After an accedent with another alien artifact on Earth, the aliens discovered Earth - and struck. We pushed back the tide with what we had, and the same 2.0, along with the Amber Clad, jumped alongside an escaping Covenent cruiser, to another Halo. There it was revealed that there were 9 Halos - seven left undiscovered. (sorry if I got that number wrong) *insert Halo 3 here*

That could intro the Halo's, and set up the conflict, much like the intro to Fellowship of the Rings, but longer. And with Durga. =P
