[SPEC] Putting it together This:
Quote:
paxwell777: They said they 'knew' me...I was always in back of them, but they never knew it until they fell one day...
paxwell777: While they fell, my face came out of the darkness
paxwell777: and they grabbed onto me
And this:
Quote:
paxwell777[mom]: Sarah. That's a beautiful name.
RascalRwr716: thank you!
paxwell777[mom]: I always wanted a girl.
paxwell777[mom]: I would've named her Sarah
Makes me wonder if the first one is describing a birth of some sort, that there were identical twin girls and a single baby (Lenny). Something wrong with the twins? Something supernatural? Taken away for experiments? Father involved? Mother not even aware or thinking they died?
Babies in utero have some very supernaturally-type bonds going on.....

lol, I could stop you but that's too fun to stop
(and it could make some sense too, I already pointed out some days ago that the "twins" may possibly be the result of some genetic and/or cybernetic experience gone wrong)
Anyway, the first part (the "fall" part, so to speak) may sound like a version of the ancient "hybris" archetype - the fall of the creators due to their excess of pride; which, in some occasions, comes together with the idea that the creators are overwhelmed by their own creation.

Hmm...dunno if this would really add much into anything ARG wise, but hybris is also seen within a characteristic of a Tragic Hero in a play. The Tragic Hero violates some accepted norm of society through some over zealous act, thereby becoming a sort of errant in the eyes of others, and enters the Abyss (metaphorical, not actual). It is at this point the Tragic Hero must recognize the fatal flaw about him/herself in order to escape the Abyss or descend deeper into it, eventually leading up to their own tragic death.
An example of a Tragic Hero would be John Proctor from the play "The Crucible", in which his tragic flaw was his (dun, dun, dunnn!) hybris.
Or, in this case....maybe Lenny is a pseudo Tragic Hero? Ah...or maybe he's just an overly anxious young adult who just happens to be a victim of bizarre circumstance.

Yup, exactly. I think it's not gonna be an in-game factor, but the story may be about genetic or cybernetic experiences, and when it comes to this there's always hybris - the scientist trying to compete with God in the creation of a living being.

The classical examples of hybris, as stated by the ancient Greek tragedies, are Prometheus and Icarus. Later, in the Middle Age, Ulysses became the new exemplum for hybris, thanks to Dante's Inferno.

Yeah, Lenny is definitely NOT an hero. Not tragic or classic at least, and not now. He could, eventually, became some type of postmodern hero/anti-hero, as the everyday man who, mostly dragged by circumstances he doesn't really understand, ends up sacrificing his life for the greater good and the collective catharsis.

...all things seem to ring, all things seem to sing... Here's my one cent worth.
Lenny experienced something horrible in his youth that he repressed, not suppressed (semantics, you say potatoe kind of stuff).
His parents know about it, that's why Mom was checking his AIM. She wanted to see how much he knows.
How deep is she involved?
Did she actually take part in the horribleness that poor Lenny is repressing?

This is a plausible explaination. Something happened back then and we've got to find out what?

I apologize, cuz I know nothing about this game, but was reading and lurking...
But isn't it spelled "hubris" not "hybris"? I'm more than happy to eat crow if I'm wrong... but I've always heard it as the first (with a "u")...
Ok, I'm outta here.. forgive my intrusion.

No problem Dorkmaster, you're more than welcome. And don't worry about crow-eating: in fact, since "hybris/hubris" is the transcription in Latin alphabet of a Greek word, it is possible to spell the word in both forms (apparently, most English mothertongue uses the "u" form, while other European languages are more on the "y" side). However, the fonetic of the y/u in ancient Greek is a middle-vowel sound, and its most appropriate transcription is, as commonly used by Greek philologists, the"y dieresis" (also called "y umlaut"), as in h˙bris .

The Latin alphabet used "Y" to write words of Greek origin. It represented the Greek letter upsilon.
Therefore, while hybris/hubris is pronounced "hubris" it can be spelled either way.
EDIT: Beaten to it!
