Yah, my son hates it, but I don't even let him watch me play Halo anymore. He loves Blinx, Scooby Doo and others that he's allowed to play, but he just started getting to the point where he could understand the fact there was blood and violence in the Halo games and that was the end of his association with them.

We've had quite a few good talks about why daddy plays certain games and watches certain movies (though I myself refuse to watch any rated R movies) that he isn't allowed to play/watch. It's really amazing how much he can understand even at 4 years of age.

Yeah, I noticed that at the LAN, and I thought it was definitely a great thing to see. Seriously, your kids are great, and it was refreshing to see someone shielding their eyes from stuff that they're just not old enough for.

BTW, you looked great after my daughter played "dress-up" with you. The feather boa was just the perfect accent Wink Too bad I don't have a digital camera Laughing

Yeah, that is a shame.

Although after the thong pictures, I don't think we need to give him any more "get out of trouble with the ladies"-free cards. He could commit murder, and he'd still never have to say he's sorry. Wink

I'll have you know I've been caught on film under far more scandalous circumstances, hahaha! She was so unbelievably sweet, kids don't really warm up to me, so it was very surprising to me. Had a blast.

OK, so what about the movie rating parallels?

As far as I know it IS illegal to sell/rent an R rated movie to anyone younger than 17 (or let them watch it in a theater w/out guardian permission).

You rarely ever hear uproars about the movie rating system, nobody seems to complain that it is in place either. What would be so terrible about enforcing a game rating system along those same lines?
Gee, I honestly thought it was illegal, too. According to Wikipedia and FindLaw, it isn't illegal to sell tickets, to rent videos, or to permit underage children to watch R-rated movies. It's all voluntary. What's worse, the FTC used a mystery shopper service, and found that almost half of theaters sold tickets to R-rated movies to unaccompanied children under 17. That's a lousy track record!

So why the big hub-ub about games and not about movies? From what I can tell, "R" rated movies can get a whole lot more smut and violence into them than your average "M" rated game.

I know for a fact that any game that shows a "sex act" occuring gets an "AO" rating, but how many "R" movies have this exact thing?

Likewise, my daughter doesn't get to watch me play Halo anymore, though she still begs, wheedles, and tries to sneak. I stick with the party line: "It's too violent. You're too young."
