I dropped a note to the "products" email asking for a complete list (on the behalf of a technology firm I just made up). Somebody should also hit the "eliteservices" one.

EDIT: There's also legalSPLATLombartech.com, but you'll have to make up a pretty good story to mail that one.

META: It'd be very nifty it this game turns out to have "character classes" of sorts, where some people can join the company, some people can be "journalists", and some people can be independent companies interested in Lombartech products. Probably too much to expect, though.

I have tried to mail to their legal department with the following mail:
"Dear Sirs:

I noticed several advertisements to your software products on your website www.lombartech,com. Surely you seem to have some very useful and innovative software packages available.
Therefore, it struck me that I found out that no US patents or patent applications have been registered in your name. You might be interested in filing for patents since patent protection gives you a more powerful way to defend your intellectual property than the usual copyright protection that goes with software. At least in the US it is possible (and relatively easy) to obtain patent protection on innovative software designs and algorithms. It is also even possible to protect game concepts, such as used in ARGs.

If you are interested in obtaining such protection, I would be happy to inform you about the possibilities for your company. Please contact me at my home e-mail address: home-email address.nl

Sincerely yours,

Bartmans"

I did include some reference to ARGs, otherwise they could have judged the e-mail as spam from a law-firm Laughing

I just received their response:
"Thank you for contacting us.

Your email has been received and placed in the queue for processing. Rest assured that our staff will review it as soon as possible and undertake the appropriate measures in response.

If you are a Lombartech client and this is an emergency, please refer to your Lombartech Client Manual for the proper procedure to follow.

Rest assured of our utmost respect,

The Lombartech Legal Services Department"

Btw, me sending the above e-mail is not very peculiar, I am a patent attorney by profession Embarassed

So, let's hope we can get this thing running, I have to find some replacement now Lenny's Xanga appears to be dead.

Microid have another reference to the lombartech site here: http://www.microids.com/newsdetail.aspx?n=63
Quote:
Microids considering new security contract for their offices in Montreal
1/17/2005
Due to the recent upsurge in breaches of video game confidentiality, Microids and MC2 are considering new measures to preserve the integrity of the games it produces before they hit the market. As such, this means taking new security precautions, both in the realms of the physical and the digital.

It is paramount to Microids and MC2 that neither its employees nor its clientele be affected directly or indirectly by these measures. Furthermore, it is the company's utmost consideration that in particular those who purchase Microids and MC2 products will not find their enjoyment of the games diminished in any way. As such, careful consideration and due attention are being directed towards the many submissions the company has already received from several recognized security companies as well as private entities which excel in the field of software security solutions.

Among several well known companies in the field currently under consideration is Lombartech, a securities firm which will soon open its doors in downtown Montreal.

Should we not give this new ARG a suiable name?

My suggestion would be to call it "Stillife", since it appears that it is a promo for this game.

The Liberty OS picture also has a flashing HELP in it (left of the statue):

Could it be that one of our first tasks is to enter the Lombartech employee forum? I tried to enter the first level forum, with the name of Adriana Castiori (which is the first name that I have encountered on the forum) and a fake password and I got the message that the page is currently unavailable ("A Lombartech agent is working on the issue. Please come back later").
I do now know whether this is genuine, but it appears to come up on every occasin where you want to enter the site (also for subscribing as a company).

Further I tried to Google with the name of Adriana Castiori, but the only source found was a page of the Lombartech website: http://www.lombartech.com/archives.aspx

However, it appeared that that page could not normally be accessed through the website, since an occur occurred in the path towards it (via the news-section). At least it did in my browser.

The Archive sextion however revealed a further website, which I doubt is IG, but maybe some more information can be gained from that site, either now or in the future: http://www.srlabyrinthfoundation.com/[/url]

All you have to do is go to Newsroom>Press Releases>Archives. Worked for me at least

Doesn't this deserve it's own section? After all, it's been published that there WILL BE an ARG.

I don't think the Santa Rosa Labyrint Foundation is in-game. Google shows too much and too disseminated references to it, and it looks to be a legitimate organization of some kind (ok, a very bizarre organization, but the real world is often weirder than the fiction).

Anyway, it's really a good think to keep analyzing the Lombartech site, I'm quite sure there's more to be found.

Random thought: we found two messages hidden in the site's pictures, so maybe we should try to find out who put them there: maybe the site's webmaster, or another employee in charge of the web design? Unfortunately, I haven't found any link or email address to contact the site's webmaster.

I agree. For one, the Lombartech site only mentions Labyrinth Foundation - never the Santa Rosa part. Second, the Lombartech article mentions that the Labyrinth Foundation is a supporter of the Arts and seems to have installed security systems to protect the artwork owned by them. The Santa Rosa foundation is dedicated to the study and creation of labryinths. It is too bad that there isn't a website for the Lombartech's Labyrinth Foundation. It would have made a great second website for the game.

One interesting thing is that it seems that Lombartech might have snagged Adriana Castiori from LF. In the archives article, she is said to be their spokesperson. But according to the employee fourms - she's the one to talk to if you have any security issues with your account, or you need to get a username/password.

The image that contains the help message is in .gif format. There are several others with that format that might have hidden information. There are also .jpg format images that could have stegs. We just need to find codes. I think "see through the lies" might be refering to stegos, imo.

Don't know if it matters, but when I tried to "Register my Corporation" on this page the message I got was "this page is curently unavailabe.a Lombartech agent is working on the issue.please come back later"

There sure are alot of typos in there - horrible lack of proofreaders employed by the company or intentional clue?

The Board Of Directors page offers three names for anyone who wants to crack open the forums but I get the feeling that it's just down! Not much to be done there...

As you can see, the registration page doesn't work either!
http://www.lombartech.com/registration.aspx

I think, considering it's day one, we can't expect too much from it yet!

Brain Fart

I'm new to this, so this may be nothing more than a brain fart. Something just struck me as odd, that's all.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Possible motivations behind the recent Lombartech and Labyrinth Foundation joint ventures:

  • Lombartech will be installing passive scanners into every piece of artwork owned by the Labyrinth Foundation

  • Doctor Oliver Agnew, the CFO and member of the Board of Directors of Lombartech, is also the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Labyrinth Foundation.

Is that a conflict of interest? I'm not very business-savvy, but that stinks in some way. Is it just the cynic in me speaking?

Nice to meet all of you, by the way.
