I only checked the images on the front page (to no avail, of course!) as they where all .jpgs and one of them was a nice picture of Factory 2005.

I get the feeling that we've been given instructions... "wait" ... But there may still be more to find.

There appears to me to be errant capitalizations on some of the pages. I haven't fine-tooth-combed teh whole site, and theres a lot of consisten capitalizations of products and such, but, for example, on the research page, "Our Hard research", "Our Soft department"
Also, in the terms of use, "Aiding" is capitalized while "abetting" is not.

Furthermore, and probably of no consequence, in the newsroom, "Amalgam" is misspelled "Amagalm".

Edits follow:
Also, the orphaned double-footnote on Research and Development is interesting. "The strongest crypto allowed by law(and even more)!**"

Our Activities: "Agents" is misspelled "Angents"

And is anyone most intrigued by finding out about being on the Virtual Police Force, eliteservicesSPLATlombartech.com? There is a definite blackhat side to this company, considering that Fort Lombartech's "servers are located outside of the United States, securing your data from most subpoenas as well."

I wonder if we'll all be on the same team when the game starts?

On the "Our Activities" page, system is misspelled as sytem and Agents as Angents. The's fairly interesting as the page is described as a resume, and as we've all been taught, typos are "resume suicide".

On the Research page, errant capitalization: "infrastructure Our world".

That's all I could find

red letters

Edit: so the red letters change in the Factory 2005 part, I am sure someone noticed this before - I must have missed it when I read through the thread again. See this is what happens when you don't read the spoilered stuff. Sorry. But it must read "Help see through the lies" combining both the Statue Of Liberty pic and this one. Very Happy

So after reading the thread three times I am fairly confident that no one has pointed out these quotes from the legal info page:

Quote:
A. Site Security and Privacy. The user is strictly prohibited from violating, attempting to violate, or assisting in the violation of the security of the Site or any of the Services offered within the Site. Any such violations or attempted violation will result in criminal and civil liabilities, without exception. Lombartech will cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies in any and all investigations resulting from misuse.

sounds like a hint to not hack the system

Quote:
F.User agrees that use of any information obtained via the Site or Services is at user's sole risk and that the company has no responsibilities in the event of loss of money, material possessions or life.

money, material possessions or life!

and under

Information and Uses

Quote:
In the event that Personal Information such as names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers is collected, either through personalization of the Site, completion of order forms, contest entries, or other means of information submission,

so it sounds like we may have several places to register

Charging Virii

Half the time, I can't tell if these are clues or just sloppy workmanship.

On the frontpage, under the subheading OUR VALUES, it reads:
Quote:
The roadmap of the World Wide Web changes every day, with new dangers being created and charging toward you without warning.

But then on the LATEST THREATS page, it is just left hanging there, the sentence incomplete:
Quote:
The roadmap of the World Wide Web changes constantly, with a new virus of mass destruction being created and charging toward you without warning every

Lombartech's FireWatch Patrol has recently detected and identified the following new threats to online security this week:

I've been keeping track of all the typos so far (bizarre capitalizations, poor punctuation, etc etc) ... but I still haven't discovered any rhyme or reason to it.

Edit: here's what I've got so far:

Spelling
"angents" / agents Our Activities - About Us - Lombartech
"amagalm" / amalgam Newsroom - Lombartech
"indemnify" / indemnity Legal Info - Lombartech (NB: "Indemnify" is a word, meaning "to cover", and could possibly fit given subject context; so it is not known whether "indemnity" is the correct replacement)

Unusual Capitalization
"Alliance" Corporate Registration - Lombartech (NB: The word "alliance" comes up often on the site, in the same context, but this is the only page that has it capitalized)
"City" Our Values - About Us - Lombartech (NB: Uncertain; may refer to "Global City")
"Millenium" Research and Development - Lombartech (NB: Only page to capitalize the word in the entire website, even though it is written elsewhere with a small 'm')
"Aerospace" Research and Development - Lombartech (NB: Suddenly "aerospace" is capitalized)
"Hard" / "Soft" Research and Development - Lombartech
"Press" Media - Newsroom - Lombartech
"Arts" Archives - Newsroom - Press Releases - Lombartech
"Aiding" Legal Info - Lombartech
"Our" Research and Development - Lombartech
"Union" Products and Services - Lombartech (NB: This just seemed really, really freaky to me. I realize that it's the "United States of America", but I've never heard an American refer to their country as "The Union" aside from the annual Address)

Bad Links
1. Newsroom - Lombartech - The upper left breadcrumb, indicating your current position in the site map. "Newsroom" points to "mewsroom.aspx" instead of "newsroom.aspx"
2. Legal Info - Lombartech - Same kind of breadcrumb. "Legal Info" points to "legal.aspx" instead of "legal_info.aspx"

Well, from a webmaster view and an ARG player/PMer view...
and I'm not trying to talk down here, please don't infer it as such Wink
JPGs are used for pictures/detailed graphics, GIFs are for buttons, line art, etc.
JPGs are usually stegged, GIFs lesser and rarer in steganography, and WAVs, though offering lossless encryption as do JPGs, are rarest of all (IMHO.)
You can hide damn near anything in anything, though.

I'm going find my ## meg dictionary file and attempt to steg-break the JPGs.
*twitches*
I've got a nice section of information up so far, if you want to see what I've gleaned so far and see a little index of what's been collected here and over at xMyth. I put up a focus section on xMyth like I did for slumberil.
Makes it so much more enjoyable with sections, all neat and tidy... encourages posting, I feel. Smile
*hint hint*

indemnity

Great list of errors. Thanks for posting that Nabisco_Lobstrosity.
As to:
Quote:
"indemnify" / indemnity Legal Info - Lombartech (NB: "Indemnify" is a word, meaning "to cover", and could possibly fit given subject context; so it is not known whether "indemnity" is the correct replacement)

If you are referring to the Section titled "indemnity" and the use of the word "indemnify" there, both of those words are used correctly.

Traceroute results

Um, I'm completely new to these games, so sorry if this is obvious...

I tried running a whois scan on www.lombartech.com, and it came up with

Quote:
Registrant:
Microids (QEYKSFEKCD)
87 rue Prince
Suite 140
Montreal, QC H3C 2M7
CA

Administrative Contact:
Gozansky, Elliot (6117891I) elliotgSPLATmicroids.com
Microids Canada
87 rue Prince
Suite 140
Montreal, QC H3C 2M7
CA
514-390-0333 fax: 514-526-6717

I dunno if that's more proof of Microids not doing it properly, or if it's a login code or something..?

Hm. That, or the ARG is secretly involved with Harry Potter. No employees named Moodey, are there?

From the source:

Quote:
<!-- ASSIMILATE-CMS-ITEM: BREADCRUMB -->
<td class="bc" align="left" valign="middle" ><!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="BREADCRUMB" --><span id="_ctl2_lblLocalizedString"><img style="margin-right:4px;" src="images/BreadcrumbLombartech.gif" width="4" height="8" /><a class="unmarked" href="http://www.Lombartech.com">Lombartech</a> I <a class="unmarked" href="products_services.aspx">Products &amp; Services</a><img style="margin-right:4px;margin-left:4px;" src="images/BreadcrumbLombartech.gif" width="4" height="8" /><a class="marker" href="hardware.aspx">Hardware</a></span><!-- InstanceEndEditable --></td>
<!--/ASSIMILATE-CMS-ITEM: BREADCRUMB -->

Breadcrumbs? Is this a computer term, or something to do with Hansel and Gretel? not a rabbithole, maybe... but a way of finding your path back? I dunno, just thinking.

Sahara (EDIT: Embarassed spelled my name wrong... I've been spending too much time on that site)

EDIT: completely unrelated, but didn't want to make a second post. The icon for "security tools" (on the main page) is a hand holding a key... anyone else think this isn't your standard idea of security tools? A security tool is a lock, not a key.
Sahara (i'm getting used to it now.... surrender to the peace of misspelling...)

A breadcrumb is a navigational tool, such as the -> in "unforum Index -> Games, Rumors & Diversions -> News & Rumors"

On lombardtech they look like this:

durn. Oh well, thank you

EDIT
GUYS! I ran a few things through the anagram site. I'm now convinced that lombartech is, in fact:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
brothel cam

:sigh: another almost ARG that was actually a pr0n site....

I tried to open some of the .jpg files with notepad. The words Ducky and Adobe stood out of the junk. Any ideas?

Congradulations. You did a WHOIS on an in-game site and discovered that it was registered by Microids, the same company making the game that the ARG is based on. It's debatable, but this might indicate that you were digging beyond the scope of this particular game. You might have gone a little too deep.

You were trying something new. Nothing wrong with looking at a problem from a different point of view.

Elliot Gozansky is the Microids network techy. I went to school with him in Montreal. Nice guy. Smarter than me.

Happens to a lot of jpeg files that are made in Photoshop. I'm not sure why. If I had to make an educated guess, I believe it has something to do with tools actually used to make the image in the first place. You often see company names burried in an image, if you ever open it with a Hex-Editor or what-not.

Freaky though, ain't it? Especially in a game like this. Watch how it ends up being the skeleton key for the entire game or something ...
