666s

JordanMC - it'd only be 6 6 6, 666 itself is actually... hang on..

I reckon this is a good point, if we're looking for something *evil* on the Lombartech site, then these forms of 666 might come in handy:

Roman numerals: DCLXVI
Binary: 0b1010011010 *
Hexadecimal: 0x29A *

[it's wonderful what the Google calculator can do..]

If anyone sees these, then that'd be a good spot.

*note: the 0b and 0x can be dropped, they just tell you what base you're counting in.

EDIT: I just realised, DCLXVI is a list, counting downwards, of the Roman numerals less than M... odd, huh...... .and before anyone says I've made a mistake, it's right:

D C L X V I
500+100+50+10+5+1 = 666

That's just how roman numerals work! It just happens to be very neat with the number 666.

I wouldn't get carried away with 666 just yet... There's not really enough clues pointing to it.

The painting hanging up here: http://www.stilllife-game.com/media/screenshots/full/StillLife_10_full.jpg

Is Baphomet, painted by our own Gus, which also appears here:
http://www.stilllife-game.com/media/screenshots/full/StillLife_13_full.jpg

Baphomet was either a head, or a body with the head of a goat.

The crusaders (I think... I havent checked this in a while... it may have been the illuminati) were accused of worshiping Baphomet, though there is no evidence they did.

EDIT: by the way... If you guys are looking for website puzzles, theres plenty over at Synagoga.....

Close. The Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, later shortened to the Knights of the Temple of Solomon, and thus to Knights Templar

The question here is why an insane man who spent his life painting pictures of women in shades of red (see what I think is his studio, here... http://www.stilllife-game.com/media/screenshots/full/StillLife_17_full.jpg)

the answer likely goes something like this: A crazy man paints whatever the hell he feels like. Gosh!

The *real* question is why nothing seems to be happening on lombartech... maybe they're waiting for people on *their* forums to even notice there is a game going on.... in any case, I don't really think their silence is golden.

From the press release about the online game:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The story evolves through various media vehicles as players follow cleverly hidden hints and clues provided by the alternate reality itself, and the marketing materials surrounding the game

The character description about Gus from the website includes:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Then living in Paris, an irresistible case pushed him to reconsider his true vocation: a couple murdered in their hotel room, The Whytes affair, which led him to an occult artifact...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Perhaps the painting is of the artifact.

Baphomet is the name taken by the occultist Aleister Crowley.

And, I noticed on the still life website that the flash file on the main page mentions four women have been murdered, but farther down on the page the summary reads "the body count is now at five." Maybe somewhere between murder #4 and murder #5 is where we come into this?

BTW: did anyone notice the screen shot labeled Chicago 2004 S&M Club?
I wasn't quite sure what to make of that, but I did briefly consider making a poll about which Lombartech founder was most likely to be a member.

Baphomet

Templars: "Theories on the etymology of the Baphomet are many. To some it is believed to be a corruption of the Moslem prophet "Mahomet" or in English Mohammed. The Templars fought along side Moslem Assassins during their time and it is held that they may have adopted Islamic beliefs. This doesn't really hold water to anyone familiar with Islam as the religion forbids all forms of idolatry.

Another train of thought is that Baphomet is really a joining of two Greek words meaning absorption into wisdom. In either case the fact remains that the Templars were accused of practicing their initiations and rituals in front of a large idol of the demon Baphomet.

How did this belief come to be? Since King Philip of France sought to own the vast Templar wealth, he along with his puppet Pope Clement V had the Templars captured and tortured. During these tortures they made many confessions, among these, the disclosure that they had worshipped an idol said to be the Baphomet. Were these claims true? Perhaps we'll never know. Jacques de Molay, who had earlier confessed his and the Templars guilt slowly burned at the stake insisting the order was innocent of all but one offence, that of allowing torture to cause them to lie and confess untruths. "

Here is more Baphomet info: "The many accounts concerning Baphomet describe the idol as a monstrous head, a demon in the form of a goat, a figure with a goat's head and a body combining the characteristics of a dog, bull, and ass. The body was thought to symbolize the burden of matter from which arose the repentance for sin. The human hands formed a sign of esotericism to impress mystery upon the initiates. First they represented the sanctity of labor; and by pointing two lunar crescents, the upper being white and the lower black, they also represented good and evil, mercy and justice. The lower part of the goat's body was veiled but expressed the mysteries the universial generation symbolized by the caduceus or the phallus. The goat's female breasts were the only symbols of maternity, toil, and redemption."

"The belief in Baphomet still exists among some occultists. They hold the idol of the Templars was really the god of the witches deriving from the nature god Pan. In the 19th. century the Austrian Orientalist Baron Joseph von Hammer-Purgstal discovered an inscription on a coffer in Burgandy which he claimed indicated the Baphomet came from the Greek words meaning "Baptism of Metis (Wisdom)." This seemed to exalt Metis or Baphomet as the true divinity."

All I can find right now.

Hammam

In the 7th jpg ( http://www.stilllife-game.com/media/screenshots/full/StillLife_07_full.jpg ) The caption is "Chicago 2004: Hammam" and the picture is of a woman chained up, next to a fishtank. I decided to look up the word or name Hammam. Slow going. Mostly I found links to spas, as Hammam is apparantly the word for Turkish Baths. Though I did find an old painting that said that Hammam also meant Mughal Tomb.

No clue as to what this means for us, but thought I'd share.

Mughal Tomb is apparently a type of archetecture. Oh, and if you look for image 10, Pat's House, the painting on the wall is the Baphomet painting.

Research is great but make sure you don't get carried away with tangents and whatnot.

The response to CVs suggests that the ARG will start "Some Time In March" and since there have been no Lombartech updates i'm going to have to admit that we may see nothing until March.

I suppose they might throw us the odd cryptic clue every now and then i suppose... *hint at the Still Life PMs who are hopefully watching* Rolling Eyes We might actually totally lose interest if we don't get an update soon? *wink wink*...

My mind games will never work...
