Actually spacebass, i'm not trying to "F" with the game. If you would like to talk to me outside of here, i will gladly clue you in on my actions in full detail. I will also share the conversation i had tonight with TOM with you if you would like. The PM seems to not only know what i'm doing, but welcome it - i'm not trying to ruin the game, i was seeing my sphere of influence on it, and like i said i even talked to steve about it who said it sounded like a cool idea{not exact words, but you get the idea}. I also did not attack anyone, if that sentence was directed at me, i only defended myself after being told by a player that i was over stepping my role {and i will gladly show you the over-step i took tonight in a moment of insecurity when i decided to go behind the curtain in a very roundabout way to say i would gladly step down if my actions/words were a problem and was told to stay. I also know we are being watched by another group who is playing, and doesn't WANT us to be playing..... but much as Tom has said he will keep us secure, he will not share that group's name with us}

I am sorry that how i type is being percieved as ticked, annoyed, angry, or anything else. I'm not. Yes, i do tend to be wordy & over analytical in my responses - possibly a bad habit, but i have found i talk too much in real life anyway, so it's not much different {except when i talk, the inflection is always obvious}. Yes, i do tend to be sarcastic on occasion, but i could point out a large handful of other players here at the forums who are more so and get no scolding at all, and ask that my sarcasm in one post not be my downfall. {i am also sorry i mispelled his name} You and i have butted heads before, in the chat rooms, over much sillier misunderstandings, i'm sure this will be resolved as well.

IN-GAME INFO

Sarah: I am including a zip file that Tom gave me saying you wanted them {something about jim's maps of their location, and Sam's changed them a bit?} but that you haven't been online, and that no one else was able to get them.

Out of desperation upon hearing from tom that yes, what we need to solve is where tannis died {and soon}, i askedwhat shell dot bar mean to him in the field of mayan research, and ofcourse he confirmed that:

Quote:
Albrecht Wasser: Shell is zero in Mayan mathematics
Albrecht Wasser: dot is a unit
Albrecht Wasser: bar would be a five

and
Quote:
Albrecht Wasser: dot would be one, dotdot would be two, etc.
pixieluvsnebula: ah ha.
Albrecht Wasser: barbarbardotdotdot would be....?
pixieluvsnebula: 18? or 5553?
Albrecht Wasser: 18

but since we already knew that, and that was all the information i got about the files... i'm going back to letting those who know more work on it. i would like to set up a chat on AIM to try to solve things {perhaps we can get tom & sam involved} - if you want me to be not-involved, i more than understand, however i think something anything needs to be done before this other group beats us to any punches and no one here gets to play out the game.

Lol...I'm not trying to get involved in the middle of any pissing matches around here...

But....

I'm keeping my head low...err...just not TOO low...lol...

I welcome the skepticism Pixiestix...that's what is great about Democracy...you get to voice your opinion openly and freely...I have a feeling I'm closer to the truth about Sam/Tom than perhaps you are...but that's my point of view...

Biased to be sure, but my opinion none the less.

And speaking of points of view...umm...not a personal attack here Pix, but it DOES seem that perhaps your line between Reality and Fiction/Game has become somewhat ...well...blurred shall we say? You're extremely passionate and defensive of your take of the game and it's character's which I admire...but it just seems perhaps a little TOO defensive? It IS a game...right Pix?

The people AIMing you ARE from an ARG....remember?

Ok...just wanted to be sure...

See, I don't AIM or any of that sort of stuff...I rely on the other members that are participating in this forum to pass along information....vital information most times, to pass along and post/share the info so that collectively we can solve or at least contribute to a solution that is both satisfying for player and PM alike...

Not to posess and retard a solution...

But knowledge is power Pixiestix, and if it makes you feel better being "in the know" about certain things that's fine with me...

I would just hope that the PM would NOT pass along anything vital to a potential dead end...

Actually, perhaps he is doing just that now...

As for the Shell and Dot thing, thanks for posting that...I didn't quite understand it all before because I kinda glazed over it, but you have brought it back into focus for me again...

Thank-You...

See...THAT is what it is all about....

But ... but, what about the hokie-pokie?

Moving on, one of the characters sent me this file. I don't know if it's repeated information or not, since I've neither looked at the file nor looked at this thread for about a week. I apologize if this is redundant.

I've been really busy the last few days, but everytime I sign onto AIM none of the characters seem to be around. I was hoping to talk to Tom or Sam today, but so far no luck.

I did find a match for the glyph in the zipfiles from Tannis it is, " Izapa Stela 2, showing Hero Twin figures and the bird monster Vucub Caquix ( 7 Macaw)

http://aal.ucsd.edu/reserves/va126bn/209543.jpg

Izapa appears to be the nearest Mayan Ruins to the city of Tapachula.

As for the file that Pixie posted with the shells, dots, and bars, I have no idea. As someone posted earlier they are numbers 01-09, with 00 at the bottom. Maybe we are suppose to add them, or make one really big number, or convert the numbers into Mayan calendar dates.

I've looked at the map files. It's been a week since KidJim was killed by Sam, the smell must be terrible. Shocked It shows that there are steam tunnels below the ground floor and that there is access from the building they are in. If someone talks to Tom, ask him if they have tried to get out using the steam tunnels. The map shows where everyone sleeps, but Sam. I don't know why, unless Sam doesn't sleep.

Yeah, I asked Tom for some maps, so I might plan an esacpe route (I'm thinking steam tunnels look pretty good). Then again, he's using this to tell Sam the exits, so...

*ducks as Pixie throughs heavy gliph*

Ok, Ok, use it as you will Pixie

Not sure if it'll help you guys or not, but here's the count of the shell*dot thing beginning with shell.

(note: this was the one posted to the forum, not a file that I unzipped)

260 chars long.....nice and even (not sure if it means much).

I think the JPG might be Izapa Plate 3/4 - Stela 2

Izapa is located near the México-Guatemala border
roughly 7 miles east of the town of Tapachula, Chiapas.

ETA: oops....looks like Enaxor already did the job.

Here's the actual pic used.

TannisFile wrote:
Numerous already translated Stelae. Determine alternate translations using new method.

Concentrate on re-imagining the role of the "bird-dancer" stelae and the "transformation" stela (#4). Possible link to actual event?

Did the macaw get shot from the perch? New translation needed.

Perhaps the greatest amount of information about Late Formative rituals of rulership can be gleaned from the series of "bird-dancer" stelae at the site. Izapa Stela 4 depicts a ruler engaged in an act of avian transformation. Such imagery enables scholars to recreate the rituals and performances of shamanic journeys that were choreographed within the centers of Late Formative sites.

These avian transformation rituals also invoke passages from the Popol Vuh, the K'iche' Maya creation account. This is demonstrated by Izapa Stela 25. According to the Popol Vuh, the Principal Bird Deity was a vain macaw that claimed to rule the world during the prior creation. In order to usher in the present creation, a set of Hero Twins needed to shoot the Principal Bird Deity from its perch in a tree. This encounter between the twins and the macaw is depicted on a Classic Maya vessel known as the "Blowgunner Pot" and on Izapa Stela 25. This story was also reflected in the night sky through the movements of the Milky Way and the Big Dipper, or Ursa Major, which was the astronomical counterpart to the Principal Bird Deity. In fact, Stela 25 should be understood as a map of the night sky that depicts this specific passage from the creation story.

Remeasure: Three hearthstone pillars

THE THREE HEARTHSTONES

In the cosmic house model, the four corner posts represent directional trees supporting the heavens. However, traditional Maya houses lack a central post for the axis mundi from which the directions radiate. Instead, the middle place is represented by the three-stone hearth,

As the first central place, the simple three-stone hearth may well constitute the original construction of creation, antedating even the erection of the four corner posts.

One of the most ambitious monumental programs dedicated to the threestone hearth occurs at the Late Pre-Classic site of Izapa. On the central axis of Mound Group B, three massive stone balls were placed on pillars.

Known as Miscellaneous Monuments 6, 8, and 10, the spheres average some 65 cm in diameter. The slightly larger central stone and pillar project south of the flanking monuments, creating a triangle. Thus this monumental group represents the three-stone place in the center of the primary temple stairway.

Had a few convos with Tom and Annie. To cut everything short, well done to Ex for solving the location puzzle! There is a new file on the second site we need, but my AIM didnt want to recieve it for some reason, so anyone online could you pick it up? They will leave the connection open for someone to do so.

Annie remains detached from the group, and she was asking if anyone has solved the dotshell problem. I asked them all about the steam tunnels as a route of escape and they all said they would investigate it. Annie's convos were quite badly written so I had a tough time understanding them. I'll just post my main convos with Tom, and one with maybe a clue from Annie about another location. They are in short burts as my connection wasnt great.

hksl0521: Is it really?
gemsweetiepie: yes.
hksl0521: It is the dim lighting. We lose track of time.
gemsweetiepie: I have a message for you, for tom especially.
hksl0521: This is Tom.
gemsweetiepie: good, well the others told me to ask you. We have looked at the maps you gave us and we wondered if you have tried to escape using the steam tunnels.
hksl0521: The steam tunnels?
hksl0521: Hmm, let me consult with Sam.
gemsweetiepie: ok.
hksl0521: Sam says he has not tried it. Neither have I.
gemsweetiepie: well, it maybe something to try. Is the smell from Jim's body not too much for all of you now?
hksl0521: We don't notice it. Sam thinks the sacrifice is not rotting as a sign of divine portent.
gemsweetiepie: I see. we have also been looking into the ruins puzzle.
hksl0521: Ah, have you figured out which ruins Dr. Tannis visited first? One of your number suggested it was near Tapachula, in Mexico.
gemsweetiepie: is it Izapa, the nearest mayan ruins to tapachula
hksl0521: Izapa?
hksl0521: Let me consult with Sam a moment.
hksl0521: I'll need to bring in Jim as well. Can you give us a few minutes?
gemsweetiepie: sure, of course tom.

hksl0521: No problem, Gemma.
gemsweetiepie: Smile
gemsweetiepie: was the information i gave you correct?
hksl0521: Yes, Izapa is almost certainly where Dr. Tannis went first. Let me show you what we said while you were cut off.
hksl0521: I think you have it!
[09:15] hksl0521: Outstanding work, Gemma and friends. Izapa would be a very logical place for Dr. Tannis to go to first.
[09:15] hksl0521: As one of the very precursor sites of the Mayan culture, whatever Dr. Tannis was seeking would likely have some connection with Izapa.
gemsweetiepie: ok.. thankyou. Well done to all the team for solving it.
hksl0521: We would like to send you the second site information. Now that you know the routine, this second site should be easier to discover.
hksl0521: The password has changed, but we're sure it has something to do with the expedition name or designation itself.
gemsweetiepie: ok.
hksl0521: Here it comes. If we have difficulty again, can you see if another person can collect this information?
hksl0521 wants to send file sitetwo.zip.
gemsweetiepie: yes, I will do.

gemsweetiepie: i apologise again
hksl0521: Let us try again.
hksl0521 wants to send file sitetwo.zip.

hksl0521 wants to send file sitetwo.zip.
hksl0521 wants to send file sitetwo.zip.
gemsweetiepie: just when you were sending the files. I have had problems recieving files, so you may want to wait for another user.
gemsweetiepie: yes, would appear it doesnt work. I will let the others know they need to get the files off you. Is there any more information to go along with the files you wish to tell me?
hksl0521: I can't think of anything. Remember what I've said, since any of it can be useful in helping determine the second site.
gemsweetiepie: ok, the stuff about the password etc?
hksl0521: I'm sure it will come in handy.
gemsweetiepie: Thankyou, and sorry for the connection problems.
hksl0521: The pleasure is ours. There is a light at the end of our collective tunnel at last!
gemsweetiepie: Smile will you try the tunnels as a way of escape, and if so, what will happen to our quest if you do escape?
hksl0521: Finding a way out is paramount, of course, but unless Sam knows where Dr. Tannis died, his security precautions will be for little. He wanted to be secure to find out this information, so we would likely all stay.
gemsweetiepie: I see. I hope we can help you.
hksl0521: Of course. Is there any questions we can answer?
gemsweetiepie: I cant think of any. I assure you I will contact my friends and let them know about the file. Be sure to pass it on to them.
hksl0521: We shall. We'll keep this connection open, but Sam wants to show us something now, so we will be away from this computer unless we hear a message come in.
gemsweetiepie: ok then. if you think of anything, let me know.
hksl0521: We shall.
gemsweetiepie: Smile

Erm, annie was asking what Jim was doing upstairs? Whereas the body is supposed to be downstairs, correct? Does Annie not know he's dead?

Actually, judging by the fact that its not rotting, I'd say it might be likely he's still alive. Very likely.

And if I do not get the chance, will you please ask Tom to check any cables behind computers? Sometimes there is a crawlspace, and he said there might be one. I'm not sure why he can't do ANYTHING without Sam-- tell him its more likely to get on Sam's good side if he finds the exit for himself, instead of telling Sam every possible exit.

I believe that Annie is talking about the ruins at "El Mirador".

Quote:
El Mirador Ruins

Located in the northern area of Peten, Guatemala. The El Mirador site was so deep in the jungle that almost no one paid attention until archaeologist Ian Graham spent 10 days there in 1962 making the first map. Further investigations surprised archeologists when they found that a large amount of construction of the structures was not like the large Maya classic cities of the area like Tikal and Uaxactun, but rather from centuries earlier in the Pre-Classic era. El Mirador flourished from about the 10th century BC and reached its classic period between 3rd century BC and 2nd century AD, with a peak population of 70,000 or 80,000 people. Followed by periods of possible abandonment.and followed by re-occupation and further construction in the late classic era, and complete abandonment near the end of the 9th century.

The site covers some 10 square miles. There are a number of structures, consisting of a large low with a set of step-pyramids. The most visible structures are two huge complexes.; One called El Tigre is the tallest pyramid some 180 feet high. Another other is called La Danta, about 230 feet high, making it the tallest Maya structure ever found when including the large platform the pyramid is set upon. The platform an is an artificially built base covering some 15,000 meters of ground. Most of the structures were originally coverd with cut stone and then decorated with huge stucco faces depicting the deities of Maya mythology.

The site is the center of a series of raised limestone pedestrian causeways, one linking it to another mayan site named Nakbé 15 km away.

Sarah there were two guys named Jim. I think it was KidJim that was supposedly sacrificed. He is the one that knocked the stone glyph off the shelf and broke it. The other Jim is still alive......for now.

I just had a short convo with Tom or Jim.......and I forgot to save it before I closed my AIM window, but I did get the file. They do think the password is connected to the places that Dr. Tannis would or was going to visit, like Tikal, Chichen Itza, El Mirador, or other Mayan Ruins.

Destination pic - Exped 14 Barcode

The untitled.txt is more shell/bar

I'm getting a funny result when using Dzibilchaltun as a PW for map01.gif. Using other passwords just brings up a "wrong password" box, but using Dzibilchaltun - it tries to open but then gives an "invalid compressed data to inflate" error.

Dzibilchaltun doesn't work on the to-do-list though, so it's probably a problem on my end.

Red Queen
Temple XIII
In 1994 a secret door was discovered that led to the interior of the pyramid and an underground temple with three rooms. In the middle room was a solid stone coffin with the remains of a woman who archaeologists have called the "Red Queen" because she was covered in cinnabar. There are no inscriptions to identify this apparently royal person.

Itzamna
The founder of the Maya culture. He brought his people maize and cacao and taught them script, healing, and the use of calendars. As the bringer of culture he became the state-god of the Mayan empire. As the moon-god he rules over the night. Itzamna is also called 'God D' and bears the title of 'lord of knowledge'. He is a son of Hunab Ku and with Ixchel he is the father of the Bacabs. His attributes are the snake and the mussel.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Exp. 14 - Taken as an expedition destination in Palenque may mean Temple 14 which is located next to The Temple of The Sun.

The group of temples consisting of the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Foliated Cross, the Temple of the Cross, and Temple 14 - were built by Pacal's son, Chan-Bahlum, who is usually shown on inscriptions with six toes.

Chan-Bahlum's plaster mask was found in Temple 14 next to the Temple of the Sun. Archaeologists have begun probing the Temple of the Sun for Chan-Bahlum's tomb. Little remains of this temple's exterior carving. Inside, however, behind a fence, a carving of Chan-Bahlum shows him ascending the throne in A.D. 690. The panels depict Chan-Bahlum's version of his historic link to the throne.

Maybe we have to keep track of the site names to spell something with the first letters?
