Pehaps they are surviving by eating Jim Shocked

I dunno, I think we need to seriously consider that they are in some sort of virtual reality, or something. What I said earlier about suspending disbelief... Why say that they are magically trapped by a boulder if it isn't some sort of clue? Why use that than any hundred other more plausible explainations.
And why do these computers *only* have AIM?

I dunno

Definetly feels dead, I haven't seen either of them online in the past two or three days, and there hasn't been a post in awhile, uh oh...This was kind of fun too.

Two points (well, two and a half):

1. Weephun wasn't trying to fuck with the game. He was unfairly attacked for his spontaneity.
2. Weephun wasn't a dick about it either.
2½. It's Weephun, not Weepum.

If you really want so badly to play YOUR game and not "everyone else's," I invite you to find YOUR own place to do so because your attitude exhibited here is undesirable. If, on the other hand, you'd prefer to play nicely with others, feel free to stay.

ARG, I'm tired of people using me as an excuse.

A - I was ASKED specifically BY A PM to keep our interactions and her request to me secret.
B - I IMMEDIATELY informed the entire community that I had interacted with a PM and had been asked to keep a part of that interaction a secret by said PM.
C - The INSTANT those interactions were made public, I made all of my actions and thoughts public.

I don't have the time now to dig into your posts too much, but from what I have seen, none of those same things happened to you in any way. So please stop using me as an excuse for playing your own little "game".

Oh, and SpaceBass, tamk you very muc. Wink

Preach it, brother.

Oy. Death threats and nasty emails, and now everyone uses you as an excuse for just about everything. When will it end? Rolling Eyes

Hi guys. Looks like this one has indeed bit the dust, had interesting PMs today. Wont be the last we hear from these guys though.

Quote:
gemsweetiepie: hello
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Auto response from Albrecht Wasser: I'm away right now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albrecht Wasser: I have a message from the PMs of this ARG.

gemsweetiepie: yes

Albrecht Wasser: Due to conflict of interest issues with the new job of the lead writer of this ARG, we have pulled the plug. We are sorry that we had to stop, since we had obviously put some effort into it.

gemsweetiepie: thats a shame. will you be resuming it at all?

Albrecht Wasser: The lead writer is now employed in his dream job, and his work on this ARG helped to secure it. Further, there are still 3 puzzles on 17 websites that had already been seeded that we have chosen not to pull the plug on. So there is still work to do.

gemsweetiepie: I see. I think people maybe thought it was dead anyway, I found it fun Smile

Albrecht Wasser: I have one further piece of information: The person who plays Riis in all the MMOs and shooter games that you found is unaware of his usage in this game. He was just as confused as you all were as to what was happening.

Albrecht Wasser: We enjoyed it as well. We got to know two groups of people well, and one of my associates is contacting the other story group that had been working on this.

gemsweetiepie: was fun talking to you guys

Albrecht Wasser: Indeed. I think it would be fun if you had any questions for us that we could reveal...

Albrecht Wasser: Oh, and the lead writer just IMed me to say that part of his job duties involve ARG-like writing.

gemsweetiepie: lol... well done to him! being new at this I cant really think of any questions, except will you run other arg's and what was yr inpsirtaion for this one?

Albrecht Wasser: A game that is to be released soon. Also, when you reflect on this answer, a lot of things that had been going on in this ARG will be revealed by the nature of this game that was our inspiration.

gemsweetiepie: I see, so we will see more of the same thing? when do you hope to release this?

Albrecht Wasser: Everything except the trailhead for the ARG have been released. We planned on releasing the trailheads on March 14, but we are all concerned about conflct of interest issues. I personally think that Unfiction (who are my main contacts) will be able to find and work on these puzzles without the trailhead.

gemsweetiepie: I see. would you like me to pass that info on or keep it as unread?

Albrecht Wasser: You can pass on all of this. Like I said, our lead writer got his job in part because of his work on this ARG, so there is nothing in all of this that will damage his career.

Albrecht Wasser: We just think we want to avoid impropriety now that our lead writer is actually hired by the company who's products we are using.
Albrecht Wasser: And, again, some of his writing may contribute to ARG-like elements, so this experience is not in vain.

gemsweetiepie: I am glad we have helped his career... Smile Waiting for Perplex City like alot of people

Albrecht Wasser: The pleasure was ours.

Albrecht Wasser: I have one final message (I being the person who played Tom and Annie):

Albrecht Wasser: ARG players need to embrace their chosen storytelling medium more. We were required to change quite a bit because the players did not trust the game. Without getting too detailed, I'll say that there are plans for ARGs that involve more than just blogs, websites, and AIM. What we had here was a prologue to seed the audience. Our plans will eventually come out in another way, and will not be so hindered by such tired storytelling tools. ARG players need to embrace more than just "puzzles and computers." Think of this as a suggestion, and not a condemnation, by the way. PMs are out there itching for the players to be ready to actually play a game in life and not just through a computer or telephone.

gemsweetiepie: I think as you say trust is important and there's always that grey area where people only want to be invloved so much. I enjoyed your story, and hope we hear for from you Smile

Albrecht Wasser: Of course, and a personal message to you: Thank you for being our "morning person" (afternoon/evening there, I know). My schedule only allowed me to be on during the mornings and late night, so it was a pleasure having someone to chat with at this time.

gemsweetiepie: no problem, I live in England so thats probably why we talked at this time

Albrecht Wasser: We wanted an intimate prologue: Just a few players who liked to chat. Oh, and for those wishing to contact us for any reason, drwasserSPLATgmail.com. is a great way to do so.

Albrecht Wasser: Well, I should get going, since I don't have the lead writer's dream job. Smile You ARG players are a fickle bunch, and that made it all the more fun for me (and likely the rest of us). Sam says hi by the way, and he's not really crazy, though he does type like that all the time. Smile

gemsweetiepie: lol... I hope Sam has reduced his godlike status and got a hold of some mood stablizing drugs! Take care Smile

Albrecht Wasser: /wave

Well, I received a reply from the PMs at the drwasser(at)gmail(dot)com address. I'm going to spoiler it, though. Here it is.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Sean,

Thanks for playing our game. It was tough on me (I'm the lead writer
for the project) to start things so slowly, and then the whole
excitement of getting a job in the very company that we were theming
the game off of blew it all away.

The person who played Tom/Annie and the person who played Sam are
already working on a new ARG. They plan on going forward with an AIM
opening, followed by their innovations to the genre that they intend
to bring forward. Rest well on the fact that the next ARG they produce
won't just be AIM and puzzles. They have big plans.

Since I'm a writer now (among other hats I now wear) for the company
that hired me, I find that this ARG, which was a labor of love,
twisted in a strange way into a stepping stone to a new career for me.
I don't know how I feel about that.

I think the best part of this ARG is the realism factor. We worked
hard to never crack, never break character (except when Sam finally
broke just long enough to answer the blatant question). Realism is
something that modern ARGs have lost. It shouldn't be a matter of
suspending disbelief, because that means you already have seen too
many cracks.

Personally, I would like to see you all make the connection to the
game that I am now working on, which is releasing very, very soon.
Once the connection is made, the entire story hangs together much
better. Maybe you all will buy the game and play in it and help pay my
paycheck. Smile

At your request, I'll fill you in on some of the "next things":

- Annie escaped. She begins to contact "dead" IMs with pleas for help.
Her mind has returned now that she is no longer feeding Sam's aphasia.
She has trouble remembering the building and what happened in there.

- Sam continues to grow in power. He has completely engulfed the wills
of Jim and Tom. They are but mouthpieces for his effort. They cannot
escape as Annie did, since the cryogenic pipes were damaged in her
escape and are too dangerous to travel between.

- Clue 3 leads to Chichen Itza.

- Annie reveals contact with "government agents" who interrogate her.
She has trouble remembering what happened in the college. The building
still remains a place that no one outside can think about for more
than a few seconds...Sam's boulder is still in place.

- Sam returns Kid Jim to life, since Kid Jim was never really dead.
(there is more, but I won't explain it since Sam and Tom/Annie may use
this concept again)

- Clue four leads to Lamanai. This must happen on March 13th. Tannis'
resting place found.

- Dr. Wasser returns. March 14th. Gateway sites go live. Wasser
refuses to believe ANYTHING given by players to him. (Red Line
gateway).

- Annie begins investigating a string of paranormal occurances (Blue
Line gateway).

- [censored] contacts begin. (Green Line gateway).

- hint at white and black line convergence/divergence.

And that is all you get. I fully expect the Tom/Annie player and Sam
player to take you through the story. Smile

Feel free to share this, but I'd spoiler it...just...in....case.

Yours,

"Dr. Wasser" - a friend of the person who plays "Riis", who loved
listening to "Riis" being confused about this "crazy story going on
about me."

I wonder what company he's working for now.....
