wiki

Shadow: thanks for posting all that information. As we know the quality of work behind this one, it seems worth the time to at least look at it a bit.

As for the wikiness:
You know that bill has a generic wiki set up on his site at deaddrop - I think that if someone asks him nicely he will edit the front page for you to start one gor this if you are interested.

Just note that the search function gets confused because there are a few guides there now. So using specific names for your game on each page you create is very useful. Also, adding navigation links within your guide's pages helps.

Well, for those who worried about this little game...

Its back and stronger than ever. Just check out www.msnfound.com

More puzzles, and not as blog based (which was drawing the most complaints)

EDIT: unfortunatly, it also seems to confirm that the actual interaction for this is 0.
I can't help but feel... when they say search opera, they *don't* mean a game... they mean an opera that you can only read by searching. What makes an ARG an ARG is debatable, but......

Well, this is no fun less fun...

Take Cy's page, for example. The first four links all existed previously, and could be found with a little judicious searching. If you followed the three trailheads that I posted above, you already found all four of them. So it seems like they made the painful -- but possibly inevitable, if previous public reaction was really so poor -- decision to re-craft the entire thing to cater to the lowest common denominator.

I guess people didn't want to have to figure out what to search for all by themselves -- or just weren't bothering to do so, or maybe never even figured out that they could -- so instead of blog entries that contained clues to the next searches, now you just get the searches linked for you directly. You can even hit the "about me" button on some pages and pop up five random searches for that character, which will certainly speed things up if you want to make sure you haven't missed anything (without actually having to think about it at all).

It's a little disappointing to me, although I understand completely why they did it. After all, they're not paid to get my personal approval; they're paid to get results, positive marketing, and not just a bunch of complaints. Another change is that the random search box can now pop up a search for any of the characters, not just the one whose page you're viewing -- which may help anyone who didn't realize there were six characters. Mr. Green Plus they finally got RSS, which I know was a big complaint some people had.

I'll stick with it for the story, but now I see less puzzle, not more. (Of course, I haven't poked around the update much yet. Maybe there are some actual puzzles, and I just haven't found 'em. Here's hoping!)

Are you sure? Granted, I never tried e-mailing anyone myself, because I was hoping to use the solve for Cy's cryptogram -- which I still haven't found! Mad -- as an ice-breaker, but a couple of people said they got responses from Karen and Swing. Have you tried sending anything?

I got responses from Karen and Swing, the two I identify most with, and have posted both emails here.

Swing's email was EXACTLY what others who emailed during the first week got.
Karen's gave me a nickname (probably not in game) that let me know it was a personal letter, but I haven't heard back from any of them within 2 weeks.

I am sort of interested in the fact that 42's projects have been getting progressively less "ARG-like" with each new iteration.

Well, you can't work with Microsoft for too long and stay ______.

(Insert "fun", "innovative", and "poor" as needed.)

You know, I don't think I'd worry about it if I were you. At least, I don't think I'd view this one as indicative of what's to come.

I just said I thought it was "interesting". Not BAD. Anything that gets people all Intrigued With ARGing, regardless of the approach, and stuff is A-OK in my book.

Anybody else been to a lowes lately? our very own tad is IMPLORING audiences to search for shark bunnies...
Theres a movie poster for it too. Just FYI, I suppose, but it was fun to see something... that no one else in the audience understood.
ON ANOTHER note, what I've seen for Hitchhikers Guide looks fascinating

Hey, from Swing's (i believe) last post, which summarizes what I think the game could have been:
Quote:
Denise can pull strings/ Puppetmaster of the heart/ Let someone pull yours!!

A quote for us ARGers if ever there was one.

That means very little, unfortunately--the Illuminati are the classic conspiracy group. There are lots of people who claim the Bavarian Illuminati are behind the world's governments or some such.
