Again, I'm not too keen on downloading just anything under the sun. If I wanted to download a new player or codec, I'd just go to apple.com/quicktime and get that. All I want is a Perplex video that can be played with wmp out-of-the-box. Doesn't anyone have anything like that?

I mentioned something earlier about maybe being able to puzzle out other possible ads that the blank pages might represent. Finding other ads as they pop up might give us some extra dates and a sequence of numbers to puzzle out.

I just want a puzzle to solve. Sad

Nope....its been re-encoded into DiVx, but thats it. Hardly like your downloading from Rodger McDodgy and Co, ur downloading from Apple, hardly gonna kill your machine.

U can try http://wiki.incognitus.net/files/ppc/video.mov.ff.avi

but bar that....not much hope Smile

Re: DM's question 2/16

In answer to DM's question as to where the video may be filmed:
It looks like Taipei, Taiwan. After living there for 7 years, I can recognize the street signs. Although some have Japanese characters which is somewhat normal in Taiwan, the overall look is a typical Taiwanese street scene and I did recognize the Chinese signs and store names. Not exactly sure of the street, but looks like Taipei downtown area.

Take a look for yourselves:

There seems like there has to be some code hidden in the timing of the video. I went through it and broke it down by seconds into 1's and 0's
1 - Video
0 - Black/News title

I ended up with this.
011001100111001110011111001110
0011100111100111100111001111-11
1111111000

Each line is a 30-second interval, and the hyphen illustrates the short fade-to-black right before the letter comes up.

So far I haven't gotten anything from this, but do you guys see anything?

It's a long shot, but I have a feeling the timing is important. It would explain the existence of the black spaces w/ no title

Along the same lines, I'd be most grateful if someone could convert the soundtrack to mp3... I have no idea if that's possible, but I'd love to stick it on my ipod!

Cheers

I understand why someone wouldn't want to download quicktime, it does tend to try and take over your pc and messes with your settings. the divx version works ok in mediaplayer.

WMP fails at media, get a better player :/ (Realplayer is not one, quicktime is only marginally better)

Mplayer is a simple .exe (no installation, just delete the .exe and it's gone), and it plays fscking EVERYTHING, out of the box. Simply drag & drop a movie onto the .exe to play, or go via command line for more advanced options (note the 800KB of plain text manual - it's got a LOT of features)

download

I also hear lots of good things about VLC and MPC, but they seem to be mere players, compared to mplayer's way of doing everything that it's possible to do with video.

(I know that was offtopic, but an explanation: I pimp good software now to avoid people pestering me to fix their dodgy software later, too much time doing unpaid tech support for family & friends :)

Ok kids... I, Dorkmaster, enter the spec battlefield with this meager entry:

Is there any way to tell if there is a silence where voice once was? I tend to hear (and this is just after listening to the audio of the video alone) a silence (with reverb) at: "a sudden _____ and often sharp, culture shock." I know there's at the very least, a beat, or moment of pause... but it also seems like there could be a word missing (just since that tends to be a common thread, and since we're seeing the infamous note with "the ____ cube"...

anyway, it's Krazy SpecTM, I know... but it could be at least worth looking into... and at least I'm not talking about e-numbers... Laughing

So can you tell if there's some sound of "cutting" or some tell-tale sign of removal of a word?

Amid all the hardcore puzzley spec, all I can think of when I see the note at the end of the video is:

Him name is hopkin green cube.

P.S. I'll find my cube. Who took my cube. Who found my cube.

Dumping to a .wav (with mplayer's dump to wav option - told you it was handy :), and then loading up in audacity shows no visible silences, but that'd probably be because the music would cover them up -- detecting a recording that's been digitally overwritten with silence would be easy enough, but not when buried under a second layer of sound :/
