theres a concept a game completely written by the people playing it without know there writing it

...... and then Seej found the cube down the back of his sofa, claimed the reward, and spent it all on fast cars and loose women Wink .

Lost in translation

So my earlier post about Japan and culture shock led me to go rent and watch "Lost in Translation" again the other night. In addition to reminding me what an awesome movie it is, and re-kindling my urge to visit Tokyo, I noticed that in the opening scene, as Bill Murray is being driven to his hotel I'm nearly freakin' positive that they drive down the exact same street as in the video, for at least part of the opening credits.

While I'm not in any way saying this is a clue or has something to do with the game, it kind of blew my mind (not to mention annoyed the girlfriend when I started spouting off about the cube).

awesome how? In that it makes so many people want to end it all? Still, glad it wasn't me who had to watch it again! £3.75 down the toilet IMHO.

Any leads yet on the video?

The city(ies) in the video, have we been able to place them yet?

(Sorry - I leave for 5 days and come back and the game's started and in full swing, dang it!)

Yeah, we've gleaned a lot from it. I know it's a lot to wade through, but you'll get a good idea if you read this thread in its entirety; I believe a lot of it is covered in the wiki, though.

Mmm, beautiful movie...I saw it a year or two after my Tokyo visit, and it made me really nostalgic. I'm planning for my next trip to be within the next couple of years.

But anyway, seeing the video reminded me of that part of the film, too.

Personally I think reading the threads, no matter how long they may seem is a useful thing to go.. then you can pick up on everyone's own ideas, and dead ends.

But what have we noticed so far from this video.

It was definatly filmed in Japan, we know this from the screenshots/phonenumber.

The blank space represent other papers, we know this from when the video was updated

Also someone found the exact route filmed, I think.

Note the piece of paper has a space where a word could easily be inserted before "cube," and yet most of the text is really aligned left.

Note that on the postcard, the word "cube" is the only starting word of a sentence that doesn't have a capital letter, almost like there was a word preceeding it.

Note the striking out of the word before Cube in Sente's letter. And yet, Sente didn't even bother to write the missing word on this paper, or the postcard, but in the newspaper, it's just reffered to as "The Cube."

Strange. Maybe the word that people use to refer to the [insert word] Cube doesn't exist in written form. Or, of course, it could be a number of things. But it's definitely something to keep in mind.

perplexcitycube.com

PERPLEXCITYCUBE.COM

Was registered with Go Daddy back in October, but it probably isn't The Perplexcity Cube. Or is it?

i remember a couple images where people had laid words in the same font as the Sente letter over the blacked-out portion, and it definitly wasn't long enough for 'perplexcity'; also, the fact that there is an instance where the space is censored, rather than left blank, would seem to indicate that it is an actual word - not so much some kind of unexpressible (is that a word?) concept that they're forced to leave blank.

Most likely a 6/7 letter word starting with 'M'. Like master, something like that.

I suggest that if there's something secret, there needs to be a reason behind it. Hiding the word "Master" just comes off as meaningless to me. It's not exactly a top secret code word that is difficult to deduce or some sort of personal data.
