I agree completely, it would have to be something more meaningful than that. I can't think what though...

Agreed on the number of letters (though could also be 5) but I think the general consensus around here was that it wasn't possible to tell what any of the letters were as they'd been utterly blanked out (possibly even printed that way). Any hint of letters was concluded to probably be artifacts from the JPEG compression and after messing with the colour curves in The GIMP to put more contrast into the low blacks I reached the same conclusion.

Yes, it's possible for almost any file to have steganographic content. The tricky thing is being able to find it. We've got Stegdetect which works on JPEGs but with other files it's a bit more tricky. I had a look at the video using a hex editor (lets you view the raw data) and got nothing but it's tricky to find anything out of the pages and pages of data that you're presented with, so that could quite easily be a false negative.

It's very possible to hide some hidden message in a video file. Although it would be almost impossible to find in the hex itself unless we knew -exactly- what we were looking for. It'd be much more managable to bury something in the audio or video of the file which is what I assumed when the thing first came out.

I haven't found anything yet though, which doesn't exactly mean that there is nothing there, but I've done everything but physically print out the screenshots and look at them as a mural. Well... there's probably more I haven't done but it feels that way. Still looking though... *heh*

Okay so I was having a moment just a second ago and starting staring at my calander. I looked at Feb, then March, then Feb... then realized that the 28th of Feb is a Monday, and so is the 28th of March. So the dates line up with the days for both months. (If you get my meaning) (Also, Feb and March always do this mind you, it just jumped out at me today though.)

So! I stopped labeling the months and just looked at the 28 day period and blacked out the dates that we already have from the video looking for a pattern. *cough* Nothing.

Going to keep doing this as we get dates though, maybe something will reveal itself eventually.

Also, now my calander is all marked on. Poop.

This is why tracing paper, transparancies, plastic wrap, and your printer exist. So that you don't have to actually kill your calendar.

lol 24 pages, and it hurts my eyes. lets stop posting when there are no more updates to the video. because if we need it once the game begins, then this will totally suck to go through as reference.

ps: no this post isnt ironic, is quite flavoursome.

edit: woo decorated. wooo wooo, totally woo Rolling Eyes

Back to Gibson again, Cayce got something from the footage, an electronic watermark or similar, which led them to the holy grail (sorry, different ARG) they were after. Will find ref and get someone clever enough to know how to do it, to do it, as it were.

Also, 'Master' cube would be good. That would imply smaller cubes, thus those of us with the foresight to buy the little magnet gizmo from Firebox will INHERIT THE CUBE!!!!!! Or at least get our £10 back.

I'm pretty sure that the exact thing that happened with the footage was impossible. Some (though not many) of the technical details in that book were off, because Gibson, thorough researcher that he is, doesn't work in the CG/video industry. The impossible bits were finding the chip with the numbers in the video, and Gibson's definition of "rendering."

That said, everything that we can do to the video has been done, to the best of my knowledge.
