GMT -1100? That's the middle of the Pacific - American Samoa, Kiribati (Phoenix Islands), Midway Islands, Western Samoa.

Obviously, the later autoresponders had the date changed to "early 2005".
Anyway, my question/doubt/inquiry is this: "As promised we'll be back in touch on the eve of the launch" - I don't think this e-mail from Sente (the one that is the subject of this thread) is it. Today's e-mail came to an address that I left on the perplexcity cite, which is different than the address that I e-mailed curious from. I haven't had any e-mails from Sente to that account yet, which sort of makes me wonder whether they are still planning on sending e-mails to those people on "the eve of launch." Or has that plan been scrapped (not that we'll ever know, I suppose)? Or did they just assume that anyone who e-mailed curious would re-sign-up at perplexcity, and they will now only e-mail those people?

Well, the orgininal e-mails we got were from "The PS team". If you may recall, Project Syzygy is over. I believe this e-mail is the "eve of launch" e-mail in a way, as we have moved from the pre-pre-game into the pre-game, which may end around March 21, judging by the video.

While that is still some time to go, keep in mind that it is much shorter than the time I have waited (since mid-summer), and even shorter when compared to the time you have waited.

So, the "eve" of the launch is upon us indeed!

Unless, of course, my spec from #syzygy is correct, and this newspaper ad thing is indeed the "ARG", making you go "ARGHHHHHHHH", as you realize that you have been taken in by the best viral marketing campaign EVER!

Er... perhaps I didn't make myself clear: today's e-mail from Sente can't have been the "promised eve of launch" e-mail from curious, because it went to a box different from the box that the e-mail from curious went to (and, consequently, the box that should be receiving the "eve of launch" e-mail). I'm just wondering whether we should even expect the "promised eve of launch" e-mail anymore... not that I expect an answer to the question, either Smile

Well my frustration with the limited information provided has made me query Google repeatedly and I have turned up something rather interesting: http://alias.crankymonsters.com/archives/2004_01.html The day after the theft of the cube, according to Sente, "the Cube" was stolen from the main character on Alias in the January 15th, 2004 episode. Since I don't watch the show, and thus, I have no idea what this means and if it is valid or not. But the dates and the name of the item warrant some attention. Does anyone know about Alias enough to tell if this is relevent or not?

Actually, according to the official site, that is the January 11th episode.

http://www.alias-tv.com/s3e11.html

So, then. Just a weird confluence... or a syzygy?

Confused

Oh, and someone with stegdetect do a steg on that image please... Smile

Already did it and posted here. I was a bit brief though, so I'll go into more detail:

Ran stegdetect with sensitivity up to 9 and still got negative results, which almost certainly means there's nothing there. It did, however, report '2 extraneous bytes before marker 0xd9' - I checked and those two bytes are 0x00 and 0x00 so that's nothing. Oh well.....

FWIW, I started googling 'sente' to see what I could find out about the word.

http://senseis.xmp.net/?Sente

"The root meaning of sente (先手) is "playing first" (having the initiative). A player has sente if it is their turn and they do not have to answer their opponent's last move. Thus, a player who has sente can decide where to play next.

A sente move

A move is sente if the opponent has to answer it, so the player who plays it will have sente after the exchange. For example, in this diagram Black can play B1 in sente, because White has to answer to avoid dying. Not to have sente is to be constrained into a direct answer to your opponent's previous play. This state of affairs is called gote: having gote, taking or accepting gote.

The English term most closely connected is therefore the initiative: which changes hands during the game. "

I don't know if somebody's already tried this yet or not, but...

http://senseis.xmp.net/?Gote

"Gote (後手) is the opposite of sente and implies a move which does not need to be answered and/or which loses initiative.

gote endplay

In this endgame example, the sequence played is gote for Black, since he starts and finishes the sequence.

Gote is not always a mistake, though this page appears in the Mistake path. If a move starts a sequence ending in gote, but the sequence is worth more than twice any available sequence ending in sente, then it might be the best move. This kind of calculation is typical of yose (endgame) play."

I sent an email to goteSPLATperplexcity.com was sent this morning, but I haven't received a reply yet...

...but the email hasn't bounced, either.

I've never seen an email sent to 'Private'. Anyone know if this is something standard or special?

I think it's similar to an undisclosed recipient list.
