Thank goodness!

I have an X2VGA adapter, which I use with a 21" CAD monitor I bought for video editing. The thing weighs something on the order of 90 lbs, but it's worth heaving that thing about to get some seriously crisp HALO action.

Here's my thoughts on the announcement:

In summary: I'm disappointed.

The wireless network adapter for the first Xbox also cost $99.99 though, so that doesn't surprise me.

Only surprise I see is the $50 controllers, but I think those will be one of the first items to be offered in bundle packs or on sale.

Not to mention that you should be able to use pretty much ANY wireless game adapter you can find. I know D-Link and Linksys both sell wireless game adapters, and they run ~$99 as well. So that pricing really isn't all that unusual.

My suggestion is to go hardline. I'm never a fan of doing gaming over a wireless connection. Too much lag possibility already built in there.

The controllers, however, are a bit pricey. You can pick up XBox controllers for what, $30 now-a-days? Less maybe?

yeah, nintendo lowered the price of the WaveBird like 2 months after it came out. ended up at $35ish.

Chances are my Xbox 1 Wireless adapter will work with the 360 too, which is cool

I am very surprised that the console is not wireless out of the box! Seems like I had read plenty of places that the console would be a WI-FI access point.

I think the PS2 might be, as might be the Revolution. But I've never heard that about the 360.

I've read the exact opposite (included on 360 but not on PS3 or Revolution), but I'll find the linkage and repost it.

Revolution is going to be wireless out of the box. Nintendo's new management made that quite clear, that they want to push the online side of this one.

Considering I'm putting off getting a 360 until Halo 3 comes out, I'm not too horrified by the prospect of a 400 dollar price point. That's like getting into Saturn territory though, they should watch out.

I heard the same things, anyways, The premium console looks priced jsut perfect for me. Anyone I'll be playing with will already have there own Xbox 360, so the controller price is no big deal. My modem is already set up next to my xbox, so hardlining it was already planned. The core unit is for people (teens) who won't be playing that much, or can't afford all the extra special stuff, while the premium is for people who can. I'm going to put some money down on one when I get paid friday, because Ms has already got me nailed.

I'll buy an XBox 360 when I can't find anyone to play with me on XBox Live and the current XBox. It's a beautiful machine, but I don't need the machine as much as friends to play it with me.

I think Clayfoot's got the right idea.

Interesting post at IGN.com today.

Included was this little gem....

IGN.com wrote:

IGN: Will the hard drive come pre-loaded with Halo and Halo 2 on it?

Peter: We want, out of the box, a high definition experience for consumers, and the hard-drive will have content loaded on it at launch. It will contain video, not necessarily related to videogames. I can't get into the details, we're just weeks away from making those announcements, but they will be pre-loaded, no charge for it. We'll be working with partners to ensure its entertaining to the demographic, and that's very important.

We have no plans to have Halo or Halo 2 loaded on the hard drive right now. For us, I believe, we need to focus on high definition experiences. Halo 2 is arguably close to high definition. Halo was built in standard definition, as you know, but the idea of putting stuff on the hard drive is to have an instant, out-of-the-box experience in high definition.

Xbox360 Marketing Brochure Leak
From PlanetXbox360.com:

PlanetXbox360.com wrote:
The Xbox360 Marketing brochure has been leaked onto the internet, and we have managed to obtain a copy for everyone to check out.

The brochure is divided into several pages, each one pertaining to a different aspect of the Xbox360 console:

- XBox360 General Info
- XBox360 System
- XBox360 Core System
- XBox360 Accessories Overview
- More Accessories #1
- More Accessories #2

Not sure is this has been touched on before, but it seems from that brochure that the hard drive is required for backwards compatibility. And either the memory card or the hd is required to save or go online, so you're spending 340, at the least (plus the cost of a game), just to play anything at all, even if you go with the Core system. Seems to me like they don't really intend to sell very many of those. It's more of a marketing gimmick to make it seem more affordable and get people in the stores before they realize that they need the full system if they want any real functionality from their new console.

Also of note, from the first page of the brochure: "One unified service: Talk and interact whether you are on Xbox360 or Xbox."

That makes me very, very happy. Very Happy
