[SPEC] Is the Cube 'real'? I've been playing with the idea that instead of being a concrete object as such, the Cube may instead be an abstract idea, eg, 'Faith'.
My evidence for this is the S. Marchant letter, where he says 'I can no longer trust that which I witness." To me, this article would indicate that, perhaps, he is longing to metaphorically 'hold' this abstract idea. This would mean that the city has lost something besides a material object, and this presents the many things the Cube could metaphorically represent. This is why, secondly, I find this spec important, as in a in-game sense, it is unlikely a fuss would be kicked up about something so trivial as an 'important object'... UNLESS it is of scientific importance, which it could be.
Basically, my thoughts are that the Cube may be something much bigger than an object, and that it could be 'Peace', 'Time' or any number of abstract things. This, I'm sure you'll agree, throws a whole new light on the situation.

I think the conclusion in the last discussion regarding this was that the Cube is a almost religous item, either that or vital for day to day operations of PPC.

Or, possibly, both! Hey, technological wonders can be religious artifacts.

Would depend on the culture, I suppose...if they are an alien race, or some sort of observer, technology may well be their religion.

Cube The "cube" could be three things or a number, as in something CUBED or a CUBE of something. (there's certainly a lot of numbers in this game)
It's pretty far out, but it could be. And if you stretch that a LIIIIITLE bit more, it works with "syzygy" as an alignment of 3 celestial bodies.
eh...

Well, we know their culture is fairly similar, the names and the voice-over of the video helps confirm this.

Similar, but it's also implied that a common history has resulted in two very different cultures...the two 'very different lessons learned.' Profound similarities might refer to a shared gentic ancestry...and the 'shocking' aspect of our differences might be in the very different ways the two cultures have evolved.
If technology is exalted to a religion, a prevailing belief a culture in non-technology might be very shocking.
It's a little star trekkish, but I'm thinking that if we're being studied, it's possible that the examiners look enough like us to be able to mingle with us...or not, since there's a reference to being behind a curtain. The researchers are identifying with us because of a common humanity...? It's hard not to identify with aspects of something that we think shares a common bond. Perhaps they are anthropomorphizing.
All speculation, of course.

The curtain could be an injoke of the PMs, behind the curtain which is well known.
The rhythmn if not just music, different frequency, diffewrent lifestyle frequency, dimensional aspects?
there was also a mention of "alienation' which might also be a lead as to origin, o rmaybe not.
Dang, this lack of context with these clues is driving me crazy.
What is a clue and what isnt?

Heh. I don't think you can take anything for granted. The simplest turn of a phrase...I've spent the last couple of hours looking at anything I can to see if there's something significant about the Academy logo. Even tried molecule structures (boron, carbon..etc...) and petals around the rose. It probably doesn't mean anything. Just a pretty logo.
And then again...
...who can be sure?

Ever played "Petals Around the Rose?" I think Adrian Hon mentions it on his site.

I am as well; it was a lot of fun getting there. It took me about fifteen minutes.

Took me longer than that, I'm sad to say. But well worth the AHA! when it dawned on me.

Oh, definitely! I loved that feeling. How long it takes has nothing to do with you at all, no need to be sad! I guess that one guy postulated that the longer it takes, the smarter you are, but I think it's just when your mind gets you to the right point.
