 		[META]Pareidolia and Avant Game?
What with ILB wrapping up, we noticed one of the PMs sites (Jane McGonigal). Her homepage is http://avantgame.com/.

Something intresting to note is the quote found in several places on the page:

DanHon used this same quote once, and was quite enchanted with the word Pareidolia.

Is this just an interesting coincidence, an inspired saying, or something more connected? Wink

 		Pareidolia
Pareidolia is a (relatively) common word in ARG circles. It also crops up in Pattern Recognition. I don't think it suggests any deeper connection with Avant.

No it doesn't. The word apophenia turns up a lot though, and it means something similar. Basically, paredolia is seeing patterns where none exist (deities in the grain of a piece of wood, faces on Mars etc.) and apophenia is seeing patterns or connections in random data (hearing the voices of the dead in white noise etc.).
