I think Sente's already here.

About the whole not being able to get The Times in the US...

Don't you guys over in Britain get the New York Times? It isn't hard to get international papers. I can go to my local Borders (a chain bookstore that's everywhere) and pick up a copy of the (London) Times, and I've even seen France's Le Monde and Guardian in certain bookstores. It's not all that uncommon.

Careto pick one up for me? I can't seem to find one up here.

Mmh, yummy spec.

Edit: More Spec for maxim's question...

Maybe (as it's been said before methinks) they need the cube to travel between our two realities. They know where it is, (possibly because of some kind of radiation from it) but can't get to it because, ironically or coincidentally, it's stuck here with us.

Not to be a "Me, too!" poster, but I agree. One of the tricks with an ARG (or so it seems to me) is to come up with a way to get the players involved in a believable manner. IOW, the PM's have to answer the question of, "Why don't the main characters in the plot just solve the ARG themselves?" Having the cube be lost in this dimension while the main characters are stuck in their world sounds like a good way to accomplish this. To be a little crass, this works well with some sort of commercial tie-in, too. When the cube is found, it will provide an easy in-game way to introduce whatever product is being sold by having it cross over from the other dimension, or something.

NOTE: I thought I'd read somewhere that this ARG has "significant backing", or something like that, which many/most took to mean that it's some sort of advertising plan. Not that this is bad or anything.

LoL, maybe its Microsfot advertising the release of their X-Cubed new generating X-Box.

ok so after a discussion in IRC about the trout advert I emailed the guy at the NY sun again asking if the adverts had been changed in anyway recently and he replied with:

Quote:
Hi Jo,

The "trout" advert was brought in by one of our other reps and I believe it came to us after the CUBE.

Hope that's helpful.

so now i dont know what to think

So having bought my copy of the Times just past 9am GMT this morning... i didnt bother looking for any adverts untill ohh 10pm GMT. Upon which (i was on a bus) there was a slightly audible gotcha... hehehe im crazy.

Anywho if you put the add's in reverse order

Times *blank* NYSUN USATODAY, they only make sense with a blank. We missed something, something slipped?

Anywho glad to have my first memento, I'd like a postcard when this is over too ^_^

Well look at it objectively. At the time it was placed, there was only one ad that had already been seen by everyone... and that ad is what the Trout ad was mocking/referring to. I would think, since Adrian Hon is known to be AGAINST opening the curtain for any reason, that this ad was taken out by an overeager Syzygy fan looking to get a laugh or two. I haven't heard a single good reason to think the Syzygy team has anything to do with the Trout ad.

How about: the PMs actually have a sense of humor, and they wanted to give a shout-out to us? At the very least, both Hons know what "trout" means as well as they know how much "troutage" has been happening here lately. It is entirely possible, and, imho, very likely, that they just thought "hm... there is all of this frustration over on uF about not being able to get anything out of decompiling the video, and out of the indexB image, and out of perlplexcity website, for god's sake. Duh. Plus, there is all of this spec flying around, and no evidence to back any of it up so far. Not to mention the postcard number. Oh, and, apparently, people are getting pissed that the game is not starting even though we never made any promises about its start other than "early 2005". What to do, what to do?... I know, let's give them something to smile about." Of course, now that they did, it has been scrutinized to such extremes of death, that any humorous value the trout ad possibly had, has been completely eradicated Rolling Eyes

London Times

caterpillar: any large news stand should have the London Times. Try the large news stand in Grand Central if you can get over there. Cheers. (sorry for not logging in I am having a technical issue which I hope to work out tonight.)

If the Syzygy team didnt have anything to do with the trout ad, why did it end up directly above the other perplexcity ad? just a thought

Perhaps because the classified ads worker noticed the same URL in both ads and sorted accordingly.

Methinks it was the centipede, and not the caterpillar, who was about looking for a wee read.

Wink

Grand Central would be a tad far for me.....

Don't know... BUT look a couple pages back in the thread. Someone called the Sun and asked about the Trout ad and they were told that the ads weren't placed through the same classified section booking agent (or whatever they are called). So I don't think that really means too much.

And I'm still not convinced. I'm not saying that the PMs didn't place the Trout ad, I'm just saying that it's a lot more likely that a fan did. And yeah, the Hons/PMs might be giving us a wink and a nod, but ask those that are Unfiction vets and they'll tell you PMs are typically not going to peek around the curtain once the game has started. I believe I read, and I could be wrong, that Mr. Hon is against PMs sticking their heads out once the game is underway. And on that subject... yes, the game has started. It's not in full gear, no, but it has definitely pulled away from the starting line.

because they were both lost and found adds as they are free whereas classifieds have to be paid for
