Kinda lends weight to my idea of there being a team of people who jacked the cube.

Also: Kiteway... LET THE SPECULATION BEGIN!

Without knowing any French, and just going on the fact that Myth or someone said the ad was in bad French, I think "find them and that will bring justice" is supposed to mean "find [the thieves] and bring them to justice." I'm going to edit that spec a bit, in fact.

I think we can assume his full name is Sente Kiteway, Bruce and a few people suggested that Kiteway maybe the name on the Academy logo which we are unsure of....2nd look shows it ends with a N....so no luck there.

if theres problems translating, jo said she will take it into her lecturer tmoz to do it.

Hi.

It is strange that the message on the ad doesn't seen to be in "correct" French. Seems more like a clumzy translation from English.
A word to word translation to English of the phrase would be :
Lost The Cube. Reward. Find them, and it will bring them to justice. "Sente Kiteway", Master of ...
It is a small difference from Snow's translation.
Besides, one never says: apporter à la justice in french...

It is probably nitpicking but who knows

PS: Maybe it is correct in Canada... never been there though...
PPS: I'm a newbie. Just registered today. Happy to be on the ride Wink

..which was the conclusion of our French-Canadian analyst on #syzygy (hi, xmyth!) and my French colleague as well. Ah well - I think we understand what it means even if it's a clunky way of saying it.

So why is "Sente Kiteway" in quotes? Is this just an artifact of the translation engine they used (put it in quotes if you don't want it translated), or is it being used to indicate "so-called"? If it isn't his real name, what does it mean? Perhaps a visit to the anagram thread is in order?

<edit> Yep, put this:

Lost
The Cube. Reward. Find them, and that will bring them to justice. "Sente Kiteway", Master of www.perplexcity.com

into babelfish and you get this:

Perdu Le Cube. Récompense. Trouvez-les, et cela les apportera à la justice. "sente Kiteway", maître de www.perplexcity.com

So, the quotes are likely to prevent the translation engine from translating the name. </edit>

Actually, I think it's an artifact of proof-reading. I fairly certain there was supposed to be a double-quote at the end of the text thus:

Quote:
PERDU Le Cube. Récompense.
Trouvez-les, et cela les
apportera à la justice," Sente
Kiteway, Maître de
www.perplexcity.com

..and that some overeager proofreader spotted the orphaned double-quote and 'fixed' it by placing it around Sente Kiteway rather than the actual quote.

You might be right but I'm pretty sure that babelfish would leave anything alone anyway if it didn't have a direct translation for it.

Uhm... did you try putting the same thing in without the quotes? It still doesn't translate it, probably because there are no equivalent words in French.

Some critical thoughts...
I find it strange that poeple that have the mean to put advet aroud the world, to edit and distribute postcards, and apparently to prepare a long and deep game are not able to find someone able to speak French and have to resort to babelfish. It seems so.. unprofessional and cheap.
Add to that the error in the date of publication 23th feb. , the typos (at least two in the ads), this makes a lot for very little content...

My conclusion it that either the clumsiness of the translation is here on purpose to convey a message, or the pm are not doing the job seriously. But that doesn't presage well for the future of the game.
Some people said this arg was backing the lauch of a product. They should have a fairly large team for this. If the product has this quality I will not buy it.
Since this is pre-game they may have other things on their hands such a preparing hte real game .Moreover, I know nothing to puppetmastering...

Ok.. enough game-bashing (Twisted Evil). This game looks good, so maybe the errors are on purpose...

/B.

The only evidence we have of the PMs 'not doing their job seriously' is found in a few ads in papers. Lets not rush to judgement about it being in game or oog because it could simply be a few idiots at the papers. The accidental printing of the ad on the 23rd was simply an oversite about a holiday.

In short, don't sell the PMs short just yet.

Nope

Ok, my shot at translating it:

LOST The Cube. Reward. Find them, and that will bring them to justice. "Sente Kiteway", Master of www.perplexcity.com

And yes, it is very bad french.
