You are right. My point was just that I was disapointed at a Babelfish translation in this game. It just doesn't feel right Confused

On the topic of mistakes: Think of it in in-game terms - although the researchers from PPC have tried to understand our world, this is possibly proof that they haven't been very successful on things like national holidays, the competence of newspaper staff (no offence intended btw Wink), etc.

Yeah, most likely it was garbbled from multiple translations.

I sent a copy to a friend of mine that lived in France for two years and knows french, I'll post his translation when i hear from him.

Who is the translator?

Ok, two thoughts -

First, maybe the ad was submitted in English, and La Presse translated it into French. Now, one would think they would use proper French, but maybe they get lots of ads in English and use something like babelfish to do bulk translating.

Second, there are differences between the French that is spoken in Quebec and France French. Not an expert on either, but maybe the "bad" French that folks are noticing is just good Quebecoise?

Regardless of the bad French, what do we now know of the situation?

Basically, only that the cube was stolen. It seems like a press release sent out within Perplex City. But I get the feeling there's still a lot more to it, since here on the other side, we're still missing more than half the document.

im iffy here. i think that there will be first teh release, and then a note from sente appended. and this is the closing of the note from sente. after all, why would he be instructing someone to find someone in a press release?

unless, its , we will find them, and we will bring them to justice.

would that addition at the front from teh ad that has it fix the grammar? assume a we, or a , we have a team, and they, would that allow one to assume the missing word? i know that would work in spanish, which is similar to french, but i know no french.

And yes, it is very bad french.

I live in France, and that's how I would translate it. It is awful grammer though. If it's because of the fact that it's a translation from whatever language they speak in Perplex City I can understand that easily. It sounds like something that someone who doesn't know French too well would say.

I tried without the " and Sente translates to "feels" with Google translation utility. This is not accurate as Sente doesn't exist in French, but it looks like "sent" which means feel. Google may try to correct errors when translating. This would explain the "" as guessed.

/B.

PS. I am French

I just thought of something :
"sente" is a noun meaning a small path, a way, a track in the coutryside in French. It is not a very common word, but we could say that Sente is leading the way on the path to the cube and leading the academy Wink

Probably nothing though...

PS I did not know where to post this, so feel free to remove it.

I wouldn't dismiss it so readily. Assuming the name has been 'chosen' (and of course, oog... it has), then when choosing the name, they will almost certainly look for a reason to use a particular name. That could be the meaning, or it could be the sound of it, or a number of things. In this circumstance, I would be almost certain that there will be a meaning for the name, which will become clear sooner or later. That applies to 'Kiteway' too.

About the bad French grammer in the ad...
maybe in the reality that they exist in, they do not have the french language, and therefore, had to either use some kind of online translator, or someone translated it for them, considering that they probably have known about our reality for little over a year now (since the cube was smuggled here), who did not do a very good job...

or the person who translated it (OOG), couldn't be arsed to use his/her brain...lol

Regardless of bad grammer or not, this does give us another important piece of info., What may be Sente's full name "Sente Kiteway"
