Begins where it ends...

Just a thought:
This "begins where it ends" stuff made me think. I somehow came up with a movie I saw. Memento.. The movie began where it ended..
Maybe we have to think backwards... (I don't know how to do that... but it could be a clue in that line of thinking...)
A lot of things in the game have been discussed, whether to approach it backwards or not..
Again... just a thought...

back to the beginning

I've started looking through all the sites again & starting again, to see if there's anything we've missed or anything that's changed!

For my 2 cents, I think the butterflies are most precious because of the butterfly collection in the Hornchurch Star and in the bigger picture of the inside of the Sable & Shuck office.

And one of the earlier SA ads was called Devil's Island - the one with the prisioner on a ship on his way to Devil's Island - the main character's name was Didier, if that helps at all!!

I am wondering if 'beginning where it ends' doesn't have something directly to do with devil's island. The Island, as well as other islands around it were home to one heck of a horrible prison back in it's time. I have read up on this a little bit and I know the souls of the people that were there suffered horribly..so much so that they would risk being eaten alive (which some fell prey too) by piranah's just so they could get away. It is also said that the blue butterflies that inhabited the isle's were collected is masses and their blue color was used as ink in currency. The three isles are now a resort, Devil's island itself, however is mostly inaccessible because of a horrible tide and an extremely rocky shoreline.
This picture depicts the hand of Satan reaching out from devil's island to disturb France... http://www.sacred-texts.com/evil/hod/img/43600.jpg

And this one ..well the caption reads "One captain escaped," says the master of Devil's Island, "but in his place I've got a handful of generals,"--From Lustige Blütter (Germany).

Whether or not Devil's Island really has anything to do with the grid..I don't know ..but I believe it deserves a tad bit of attention. Especially because that is where the reward money is supposed to be. If the money is sitting there..would that not be where this all ends?

Faithers, how come you're still only a guest? You seem to have posted loads on this forum..... ( not sure about ARG etiquette - is it rude to ask?)

"the main character's name was Didier, if that helps at all!! "

I don't think it's relevant to the game, but I'm intrigued to know how the character has a name. Having watched the ad on the stella site nobody seems to call him anything, they just keep trying to nick his beer!

Hmm, i found that Devil's Island is now refered to as Iles du Salut or Salvation Island. I know this doesnt particularly help us, but i figure the more information we can gather on it all, the better.

Trident..

Just more spec, but all the references to the Trident seem to be based around 3 or third (duh, I s'pose), but I'd venture a guess that Trident is either in position 3 or 5 (3 or third from the end).

Completely vaporous speculative guessware. Smile

Maybe the cell phone is the third clue from the end?

Ok the cell phone is surely irrelevant. Im lost as to how the signal on a mobile/cellular phone is one of the 6 signs/symbols, and what the point of it being so would be.

Your probably right, but just in case: go to the codes thread, and i posted something there about how the trident is a greek symbol for either ps or b, and it correlates with the constellation that shows on the loading screen. . .
I know its probably grasping at straws, but we've been stuck for a long time. . .

But perhaps..

Perhaps not that each symbol represents its thing, but that each symbol represents the time in which the thing arrived in the game? In other words, a pseudo-chronological order; we order each of "importance" = arrival to us as we went through this puzzle. Just a thought.

this could be a good theory.
but as far as i remember, the aleph and the star was the last puzzle. now, the star appears in the first position in the grid, so this already puts us to a bad start!

the puzzles have been:
crossword (hornchurch STAR)
friendsreunited (BUTTERFLY preservation society)
pathway travel guestbooks (RAVEN symbol for pathway travel)
Jon's inferno cargo number (FIRE)
The mobile phone (TRIDENT symbol)
the mohddy doo (DOG)
S+S soul worth (BUTTERFLY, represents a soul)
Aleph meets the star (STAR)

i can't place a snake (ophis) into any of the puzzles we have done, so maybe it's the last one?

also remember that TRIDENT air has been part of the game, but we haven't solved anything by using it.

can anyone put the puzzles into a definite order?
