Pretty much, they could just wait for us to write it for them.

Even if Sente is the bad guy he is the only link we have right now. Until the thieves contact us we follow his guidance, if later on it is decided that we don't like Sente we stab him in the back, but right now we're sunk without him.

I am imagining a counter-ARG taking shape.

ILB had the SP-army and a couple other fFactions.

But I'm given to wonder if anyone has ever tried to run an ARG in direct counter to another ARG.

That is, while the syzygy team are building a game about a stolen cube -- another group starts another game of their own in which they interact with the same rules and in the same world, spreading counterinformation and *protecting* the cube.

To be done well, this would have to encourage people to actively play either game, with actual clues and established puzzles. It should develop new characters with unique stories. (It would also need to be more than clever Trout ads.)

I wonder if such a thing is possible.

I'm thinking to be properly built, it would be very difficult; nigh unto impossible, in fFact: a good ARG should take a year to bild. what I am suggesting would have to be built on the fFly as information comes in about the main ARG.

I think the only way it would work is if both ARG and counter-ARG were to be written at the same time, and coordinated by a single management body. which isn't really 2 seperate args at all at that point.

I think the best effort at this would wind up looking something like ilovebeer.com, i suppose. or metacortechs reloaded comes to mind. tho different. Smile that was pretty cool, by the way Smile

It's obvious! 'Sente' is the name of the cube! The cube is a sentient being capable of many powerful things, and it has gotten lost in our world. Having transported to our world where the atmosphere is clouded with pollution, its mind has become poisoned and therefore is not making any sense when speaking to us.

Having said that, I appear crazy enough that perhaps I am Sente the all-powerful yet lost and confused cube Rolling Eyes

I love the contrasting levels of detail in these spec's. Maxim is REALLY thinking about this and Salkunh is simply obsessed with Sente getting it on!

Also Marrec,

Also, I don't think the cube is some element of all encompassing peace, seeing as Zeller got offed/offed himself/offed naturally while working on or soon after finishing the cube.

you pointed out the tragic irony of the situation...despite being a powerful objet d'art of cosmic peace it has very sharp corners. Very Happy

She's a she! Definitely. And Hesketh Zeller's a woman too...a small and wizened one like Aughra from the Dark Crystal. And the cube's her eye.

[Edit] Seeker, I'm too naive to ever think that the good guys are bad so now I'm in an crisis. I think that maybe there would be some sort of evidence, however slender, for this. The only real tensions we've seen are internal ones in the Academy. Maybe we'll be contacted independantly by another group of staff (or someone that wants us to buy shoes for them)

Hey Scott,

Seriously though, I'm keeping an open mind at the moment (and I think most people are working on the same lines) because we simply don't have enough information to establish Sente's motives or benevolence/malevolence.

I like this way of thinking... Question everything...

A few ideas to chew on:

1) As said above, what are the reasons as to the theft of the cube? Can we empathise with the 'criminals'? It's certainly interesting how people will make judgements before knowing the whole story...

2) I have brought this up before - but what if the cube is not a 'cube', but another thing, e.g., an abstract idea, or better yet... a person?

3) Also, what if the observers are not in another "dimension" as everyone quickly assumed... let's not let imaginations run wild... I have suggested that in actual fact, the academy, Sente, the cube, all exist in our world, but in a hidden, "behind the curtain" fashion. Secret research lab, anyone?

4) Motives - what are they?

I'm disappointed in you guys!!!

It's an abbreviation from a piece of work which is very relevant both to Unfiction and to Perplex City... In fact it has been named as one of the things which influenced the latter... And those are all the kl00s you're getting Wink
