Sure, I could take off the black spot with photoshop, but unless there was something under the black spot then it wouldn't do any good. Me thinks that it was printed that way, rather than printed with the word, then blacked out or printed in such a way that a word could be found within the cencored block.

BUT, to be complete... I will do it.

Already been tried. It seems like it was originally printed that way IMHO, or if not then between the not brilliant illumination of the image, the tiny size of the blacked out bit and the JPEG compression there's only noise in the space.

To be sure I found that out soon after my post. Figured as much, but it didn't take long so no love lost and all that.

re: photoshopping the black box...

just FYI, images (JPGs in this case) only have one layer... ie, you won't be able to 'take off' the black box from the image - it would just leave whatever background colour your paint program has set up for that edit session. You might be able to play with the pixels and colour values therein to try to adjust the colours or contrast and such, but if it's a solid black box, there's no information there to begin with...
just a friendly graphic editing tip Wink

I'd liken your suggestion to trying to take the physical paper and applying various techniques to attempt to uncover what was originally on the paper before the black box was applied in some way... but in that case, again, if it was printed like that, nothing will uncover what's under the black box.

and I think the black box removal thing has been tried to death since the letter was first found Very Happy

SPEC quote on Sente letter

The quote at the top of the Sente letter, "keep that which you value close; better to be vigilant than to rely upon the kindness of strangers" gives me pause. I wonder if "perplex city" will somehow end up making us work against each other? Sounds like we shouldn't (or they shouldn't have) trusted people to help them out. I hope that's not the case...but every time I read it .. it kinda makes me ...hmmm ...sad?? Sad

Heh, I had a totally different take on it: "keep that which you value close" - I thought that was just referring to... you know, "should've kept the Cube somewhere it could not be stolen from Razz ". And "better to be vigilant than to rely upon the kindness of strangers", especially followed by "Thus, despite the proverbial warning, I now offer my hand in friendship and hope, relying on your kindness." - to "hey, I know this wise man whose quote we still remember says it's best not to ask strangers to help, but... I'll ask you to help anyway."

Btw, re-reading this fills me with impatience! I miss playing a game where characters have such great command of the language Worshippy

Dearest Sente, stop screwing around and let us help you find the Censored Cube!

Sorry, I'll stop whining.

That sounds like one good way to pit us against eachother.

Will somebody in london just go out and flippin' check that S. Marchant shop, see if there's some notice or something stuck on the counter that could be ingame? The PM's are in London, we know this.

Of course, they could have just been thinking of character names on a long walk, and thought it was a good name when they passed the shop...

Whatever. I think we just need to be sure on this one.

it doesnt say monetary reward does it Razz its probably ment as incentive for new people, personally, some kind of memorabillia or prize would be more worthwhile than cash. (what theyre gonna give everyone money? hah, no way.. so then who decides who gets something or not etc yadda yadda)

and as to checking the S. Marchant store, the website(s) have been checked, the store has been checked (walked past), and its ancient news. people need to understand that everything has been checked and looked into. this stuff was found in the first few weeks. then we found it again when more ppl joined in the ensuing months, now we look to it again when everyone else comes to play the game. 3 times and no clues no nothing... well safe bet its nothing.

do a search, then and only then if nothing new comes up, pls bring it up for discussion. Wink

24 reversed is 42. The Sofa in the Stairwell incident is from Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I'm sure we'll see a lot more DNA references.

Could the game be in honour of DNA? A tie-in with the HG2G Movie? Perhaps the movie will even include clues. Smile

42 is also fox moulders apartment number in the x-files....does this mean we can expect a visit from ET or the Askard?

Here's a couple of interesting coincidences (or are they??)

http://www.digiserve.com/eescape/atari/articles/30-Secrets-of-Atari.html

Some examples...

"Nolan Bushnell, Atari's founding father, originally named the company Syzygy (the sun, moon and earth in total eclipse). He renamed it Atari because another company already owned the name Syzygy."

and

"Rotbert joined two other Atari engineers, Howard Delman and Roger Hector, and formed Videa, which not too long ago was bought by Nolan Bushnell for more than $1 million and renamed Sente Technologies."

Also (from Wikipedia) : "The name Atari (当たり) comes from the ancient board game Go, where "atari" is a Japanese term that applies to moves which threaten to capture opponent's stones." The term Sente is also used in the game of Go.

Do you believe in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things? (A concept that is central to "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" by Douglas Adams... In which there is a sofa that gets stuck in the stairwell, partly due to a time-travelling character called the Electric Monk! Woo!!)

Anagram from names

I took the names from the crest/logo and went for hours before I came up with a working anagram, though it does not include the Latin, and is very likely wrong in and of itself, however, becase I spent hours doing it I though I should get some satisfaction:

"Zeller Receda mention and key NC seeker make arrival"

Where NC is North Carolina.

More importantly however, have any of you noticed the kerning between Taversen and Noi ? it's a noticebly narrower space than between the other words, which is strange because Taversen Square does not include Noi. Is the kerning special or meaningful???
