[PC] Halo: The RPG

So far, I only have a demo made. It's a zip file, so you'll probably want to right-click and save-as. The download is about 1.6 MB.

Controls are very simple. You have the four arrow buttons. Enter and Space Bar both act as your Confirm/Action button. Escape is Cancel, and brings up the menu in the map screen.

There isn't much to it yet. Basically just an area to go around killing Grunts. But I see a lot of potential. The first thing I want to do is try to recreate multiplayer situations in the RPG setting. After that, maybe I'll retell the story of one or both games. Maybe even an ILB-based RPG. It could all be done. But usually in things like this, my ambition is far greater than my persistence, so I'll probably only get this all done if there's a bunch of you pushing me to. =o]

Tell me what you think, good or bad, and we'll take it from there.

Oh, and if someone knows where I can get some good sprites of Master Chief, preferably 24x32 pixels, I'd greatly appreciate it. Because the walking animation I have for him right now is just terrible. Smile

I'm at work, but I'll check it out later. I didn't realize that you dabbled in video game programming. It is also a personal enjoyment of mine. Maybe we can work on something together one day.

What tools did you use?

Thanks, Thunderclap. I'm already working on the next stage. Smile

And I really don't know anything about programming. I'm using a program called RPG Maker 2000. You may have heard of it. It's a very user friendly program that lets you make RPG games. You basically get to design your world and scenario without having to worry about any of the programming stuff. Smile

RPG Maker seems to lend a wonderful old school feeling to the whole thing too. I had flashbacks to Dragon Warrior I waaaay back in the day.

Fenwicked,
You ROCK! That was totally fun to play.

A couple of suggestions for you while you are still developing the game:

Add more playable characters. For instance you could have Cortana, Sgt. Johnson, and other marines from the books. Cortana could use her hacking skills to confuse, stun, electrocute (short circuit), overload systems, etc to the enemies. Sgt. Johnson could heal himself during battle, and be a sniping specalist. Maybe include "hidden" characters; for instance you can coax a Covenant Engineer to join our party. Once in the party the Engineer would act as a healer for the MC and repair battle damage during battle.

Upgradeable weapons/skills: Example = Sniper rifle starts off without a scope, then add a X5 Scope, then later a X10 scope. Each upgrade would of course be more accurate and do more damage. "Dual Weild" is a skill that the MC must learn along the course of the game.

Each color of enemy gets a specific name: (like what they did back in the Final Fantasy where they used the same images with different colors to create new enemies.) Examples: Blue Elite = Solider Elite; Red Elite= Veteran Elite; Black Elite = Special Forces Elite; Poka Dotted Elite = Interior Decorator Elite... (you get the point).

Party can carry an Inventory of weapons, but can only switch between two weapons per battle. Two weapons can be "Equipped" before a battle but can not be changed once a battle starts.

I'll add more suggestions as I think of them. Good job! Keep up the good work. I look forward to playing more.

Heheh.
A lot of that is stuff I was actually thinking about implementing. There's a built in tool in RPG Maker to pallette-swap your enemies. And you can even make your character able to use two weapons at once, though I don't think there's a way to "learn" that ability.
Thanks, man. Suggestions like these are exactly what I'm looking for. Smile

Fenwicked, I hope from your changed Avatar that we can assume that the RPG is progressing? Smile

ID Elite: Ok, what we've done here in the great hall is try to get away from all that purple with shiny blue accents! We've added depth to the space with some-

Prophet of Truth: You have removed the sacred color of the Forerunners! EVERYTHING must be purple! You shall pay for this insolence!

Tartorus: Wort wort wort!

Later:

PoT: You have been summoned here in the great hall of the Designors! We have a mission for you to redeem yourself. There is a Heretic who is leading a faction of Elites in painting over our sacred purple. He will be going away for the next day on a trip that we have set up with his girlfriend. You and a camera crew will then have 24 hours to transform his space while he is out, and surprise him with design! Oh, and then... you know, kill him for his insolence. Do not fail us... Designor!

(we apologize for the thread drift, those responsible have been sacked)

Laughing LMAO! Who knew the Covenant were so fashion conscious and savvy?
