For those unfamiliar with this type of puzzle, some googling of "perfect squares" may help... although i cant figure it out myself, i know we have some serious brains in here...
As a sidenote, remember room 441? Hilberts hotel is set up the same way... dont know if that will help anyone, but theres definitely an answer somewhere...

Ok, finally I got the grid myself.
First sight, totally by instinct: it's clearly, as already said, to be matched with the "webcam_day8" image. So what if we should "just" match every grid symbol with one of the colour in the webcam_8 image?
Plus, it is quite likely that the 6 grid symbols correspond in some way to the 6 signs of the man in black (as per hewalksamongus.com). I kinda have the suspect that, if we zoom close enough on the symbols, we will se that every grid symbol includes a part of the graphics used in Jon's site to represent the 6 signs.
Oh well, maybe that's a lot of crap and I'm just overexcited. Wink

You are definitely on the right track there, ive been looking into that for a little while. Im almost sure they match the 6 signs, but im just checking. But then we need to decide which ones are more "precious"...

The symbols do connect to the symbols at HWAU. The order is Flames - Dog - Trident - Raven - Snake - Butterfly

And you can easily recreate the Golden Spiral from the day8 image simply by rotating the pieces once they are on the grid.

The problem is: how exactly do you order the pieces. Which is the most precious - and do you put that closest to the middle or at the end? Then how to the other pieces fit on the grid. Once you have that, you still have to give them numbers in the boxes. Do you number the tiles 1 through 6? 1 though 13? And is 1 the first or last number? Between the various ways to position the tiles and 4 numbering schemes, there are 2880 possible combinations. Impossible to figure out? No, but it would be very very boring and you would have to be extremly careful not to duplicate efforts and to input your answers correctly.

About the possible gridsymbols/hwau signs match, here's what they look to me:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

symbol 4 is corvus corax, the raven
symbol 5 is ophidia, the snake
symbol 6 looks to me like Lepidoptera, the butterflies

Still working on the other three symbols

"number and order the symbols on the grid, from most precious to least"

looking at the webcam image, assuming that is part of the key, would it be logical to maybe assume that the largest square/number 13 would be the most precious as the size can add emphasis to the most precious? just a thought. either that or its all connected to the lord of the rings lol "my precioussss..." lol Laughing

I think the colours in the webcam_8 image are a clue. I'll try to match in some way the signs with the colours and see if it works. Even if, to be honest, some of the signs may be linket to a colour in a quite easy way (fire=red for example), but others... well, let's find out what colour a trident matches with. Smile

mybe we sould go back to the old stuff and look for clues; espexially in the hotel guestbooks. I just remembered the "ophidia in herba" thing (meaning "grass in the snake") and this could be a clue to associate the snake symbol with the green square in webcam_8... And maybe there are more clues of the kind.

Just another bizarre rant. Don't mind me. Wink

OK, to help with the deductive process, it ISN'T:

Squares in the order given at http://hewalksamongus.com/thesigns.htm reading across the rows, or the squares in the order given if you read down the columns. For the numbers, I gave the respective Fibonacci values to match the Webcam Day 8 pic.

I tried snake (green) trident (blue, you know, poseidon, the sea, etc) then fire (red) then ravens (dark blue, i just sort of associate them with the night?) then, a bit stuck, i tried butterflies (purple, er, a pretty colour for pretty things) and then dogs (because the colour was sort of doggy.)

needless to say, close but no cigar.
