I play CTW, but I didn't get an email either. I DID see this exact same message posted on another group with a different email address (not jones3213) a few days ago, and I live in south San Francisco, so I responded just to see what it was all about.

WOW.

I am NOT going post a single thing, it's too good. It's completely different than I expected. It's very techie, which I am into a lot, and it is incredibly immersive. I would suggest checking it out.

You just registered to Unfiction. You're a shill. Nice try, but pretty transparent.

This answers my question. It's spam.

I don't know who gnovos is in relation to this, he/she may be a jerk or something, but the jones guy DOES write back if you do it right. I got two messages so far. Here are the steps:

1. Sent him my own key, encrypted with the key posted above
2. He sent back, encrypted, just the word "Location?"
3. I sent him "San Jose" unenrypted, which responded with some kind fo autoresponder that said "Invalid message you must use PGP" or something like that.
4. I sent back the same "San Jose", this time doing the encryption correctly, and he responded with some cryptic message about the San Francisco protesters and told me to be near the phone at 2:15 tomorrow afternoon.

Note: I did not give him my phone number.

I don't think this is CTW anymore. It had nothing to do with CTW. It did seem interesting, and I am VERY curious how he can know where I live and what my phone number is, so I guess I'll just have to wait.

Ditto for me except he didn't mention the phone. He told me to look under the ashtray out front of my office. I don't like the idea that somone knows where I work, assuming this isn't a scam. The only thing I can think of is that someone at my office is running this game (We have 400 people, so I guess it's possible).

Where do you work, Markus?

I work in 4 sites, as well as from home.

Are you two in the Bay Area?

Why did catherwood (who's nearby) not get invited?

I have been playing CTW for two weeks now, sorry to dissapoint you. I just registered here to be polite. I am not a spammer. If anything all these "Guest" posts are the real spammers, we don't even know who they are or where they came from. I did respond to the crypto guy, and I did get into his trail, and it was nothing like what they are describing. I will post all the emails I got from him tomorrow when I get back to work if that's what you want, but you'll be totally dissaponted unless you go through them yourself.

I'm in the bay area, near San Jose. I have no idea why some peopel got notified and some didn't. I didn't get an email like you two, but I *did* get an AOL IM that was identical to the mail you guys seem to have gotten.

I do NOT play CTW, I never even signed up for it, so it cannot be some off-shoot from that.

I responded out of whim, and it definitly seems like some kind of game, but I don't have a clue about it yet. If something DOES show up under the ashtray tomorrow, needless to say, i'll start to get paranoid.

Who are you? Which forum are you using if not Unf? It will help convince us if we've already met you somewhere.

So you're right and they're wrong? And we should just get into the game to prove it? Rolling Eyes

YOU are the jrek. This is NOTHING like the response you get. You are just making it up. How could they know your phone number if you never gave it to them, huh? YOU are the jerk!

Um, ok

I think we can rule out gnovos now as anything but a troll. I'll post tomorrow if I find anything interesting. Time to go say hello to the Tivo.

I got the same e-mail, but since I just got into the whole ARG thing, I'm not totally paranoid yet so I deleted it. I'm interested in where it goes though. (I'm in San diego, by the way)

Same here.

And, as people reply to it, it's piling up in my mailbox as well. Crying or Very sad

A DISK!

Ok, paranoia has set in. I looked under the ashtray outside of my office like I was told, and sure enough there was a green floppy disk there. It's in some kind of mac format, it looks like, so I'll have to wait until I get home to look at what's on it. This is freaking me out unless the guy running this game knows me personally, becuase I never gave out my work address.
