Hmm, someone starts an "ARG" for the sole purpose of instilling trust, then harvesting player info and maybe even getting the players to install some spyware in the form of an in-game app.

This is the kind of thing the alarmists have always warned about, heh. ARGs being used for nefarious purposes. Not saying it's the case here, but it does serve as a good reminder.

Nothing yet. I was also informed that an earlier one pulled that trick, something called DarkCode. That was before my time, though.

There is no reference to the 16 sites on Spywarewarrior. Lets see what google turns up.

I am HOPING i6t is just a case of a bad place to host. If we can find more information on the moviemakers and contact them, to find out if this is a valid ARG or a possible scam. I dont plan to play this one, but its better to know.

Do a google on Sky Whisper which is supposed to be the people doing it. But their WEBSITE is on the same kind of server setup.

This is the studio website, which I say supposed. It doesnt seem to cotnain actual contact information, and brings up said government action. Which MAY be within game context, if it is.

The name Joshua Blumenfeld also comes in as SkyWhipser owner. And also sdhows up as a Colorado university student.

The Colorado Joshua is merely a student. No bearing here.

Joshua Blumenfeld of New York is indeed doing the movie which is a real thing.
Joshua Blumenfeld also owns a direct marketing aka spam operation, known as Coverclicks LLC.

The websites listed on that server are all owned by Coverclicks. Unholy is not an outside client of it.


I have my caution flag up bigtime in terms of this being a real ARG or not.

I would bet that Catfish is a small production company and this is their first production. The same applies to Sky Whisper who previously did Zomby Honeymoon. I am working on a horror movie myself which has a small production company contracted out to a major one, so I see how that works.

The movie is quite definitely real, no doubt there. Its just the ties in with the producer being a spammer and if the game wants personal information. THAT is where my red flag goes up.

If it doesnt ask for personal information, fine and dandy. But if it does, I be wary.

There is 2 of them on the net. The one in Colorado is a student there.

The one in new york owns Coverclicks, LLC and is also the movie producer. That is why the movie website is on all the spam wwebsites on the server.

I am hoping its a legit game, I really do. Just remember, if it asks for personal information, that is where you want to avoid. No emails, no names, etc....

Am hoping they are treating this as a serious game effort rather than a spam thing. At least that email is definitely in the right spirit, and the less information thing mentioned I do like.
