Going back to the planets, and focusing on the color hint, and some additional ideas:

* Some of the colors don't match the filename:
ee82ee.gif is actually ff99ff
4b0082.gif is actually 330099
ffff00.gif is actually ffff33
ffa500.gif is actually ff9933

Could be nothing, as they used web safe colors.
The actual colors don't exist as files.

* Most of the color tables are normal except:
ffffff.gif uses e6ffff for the hidden text.
ff1500.gif uses f49231 & 40260d as two pixels in the letter v

Could be artifacts from editing the v to make it clearer.

* from moon to saturn, the location of the word is rotating counter-clockwise, but after that it skips a step to stars, as if there's something between stars & saturn..

* I'm thinking the paradiso quote is actually a real hint, but "paradiso" is just a red herring answer. The real answer could have something to do with Dante's text.. especially the firs few lines.

Hmm. Who worships angels?

Followers of the Urantia book are into angels in a big way.
The book had hundreds of pages dealing with angels of all kinds, Seraphim, Chrubim, Sanobim, Primary Midwayers, Secondary Midwayers, and Personalized Adjusters, etc.

Personalized Adjusters? My insurance adjustor is an angel? Shocked

Quote:
This religion is based in Chicago and the book is in public domain now after a copyright battle and they lost the case because they said the book was a written by people receiving the information by direct revelation from angelic beings and therefore had no human author.

Oh, that's funny. Talk about a Catch-22.

But do they actually worship all these angels, or are they just present in their cosmology?

It's not important. I was speaking of your phrasing, actually. I read your comments as being a little on the harsh side, and I'm not the sensitive type. But let's just move on, no harm done and no need to apoligize at all. It's very difficult, as we all know to get emotion across in writing. I'm sure I mis-read the lean of your comments and your intention was to be helpful. Thanks. Smile

Well, nevertheless, I'm sorry if your feelings were hurt. Sad

Quick course in Phaedra-ese, since we're going to be playing together and I'd hate to have misunderstandings ruin a good relationship:

1. If I ever do decide to smack you down, which at this point I can't foresee doing, trust me, you will know it. There will be no ambiguity.

From what I know of you thus far, I can't really see you doing anything that would tempt me to smack you around. Smile

2. I do frequently disagree with people. Probably more than I agree with them. I'm quite capable of disagreeing with myself and do so frequently -- often for pages (yay blogs). I also disagree with the TV, the newspaper, and a significant portion of the books I read. It's not personal.

The fact that I disagree with you doesn't mean I think you're stupid or a lesser human being or anything like that. It just means I disagree with you.

3. This, I think, holds true for most people in the forum, not just me: if I'm using emoticons, I'm not trying to be harsh. If it's something that comes across as combative, but it's followed by a Smile or an Razz , I was probably teasing you.

As you noted, it's hard to convey tone in writing, so unless someone says something along the lines of "jazzysixx, you're a raving moron!" it's probably best to assume they intended the comment to come out lightly rather than harshly, especially if it's followed with a smiley.

Emoticons generally help soften things. Smile

4. I don't think all opinions are equal, and I don't see any reason to pretend I do. Everyone has an equal right to an opinion, but that doesn't mean that all opinions are equal -- some are more fact-based than others.

We're trying to solve a mystery, and throwing opinions out there and then dissecting them to see if they work is one way to get to the bottom of it.

So, when someone puts out an opinion, I tend to poke at it and see if it holds up. I expect people to do the same to mine. I expect them to do it civilly, of course, and hopefully nicely as well, but I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

I go into this at length because it's more likely than not that I will continue to disagree with you on various things, and I don't want you to think it makes me like you less, or anything like that. Smile

I know this is kinda of a downer but has anyone wondered if the paradiso page wasn't the red herring, but the entire vagabonds sojourn page was the red herring? I think the answer we're using is actually part of another solve. the words that actually come out of the pairs of letters are "Vagabond's Renown Sojourn" I think we might need to find the vagabond they are talking about and the name of his journey, because the solve we have now only uses two of the three words we were given.

Ergh. You could be right.

I assume you tried vagabondsrenownsojourn.net?

I did try vagabondssoujourn.net/renown when I first was playing with the extra letters, but nada.

I did and nothing came up, but that doesn't say much, right now my phones are interfering with my wireless so I get a lot of 404 pages and things anyways. Best for someone else to try it out, becuase I don't want to negate a theory when my methods aren't exactly foolproof. Just a point, at the moment the original page won't load, niether will gmail, hotmail or either yahoo messenger or aol messenger and this post will probably take two or three tries to go through. Oh and I checked just about every 3 word anagram for those words, nada as well.
*Side note* Anyone out there no how to lower interferance when you's wireless connection and phones have the same frequency?

They are more than cosmology they interact with people and you would not know how the interaction was taking place.
The book is divided into 4 parts:
1) The central and superuniverses: Sponcored by a Uversa Corps of Superuniverse Personalities acting by authority of the Orvonton Acients of Days. (356 pages)
2) The local universe: Sponsored by a Nebadon Corps of Local Universe Personalities acting by authority of Gabriel of Salvington. (294 pages)
3) the history of Urantia: thes papers were sponsored bya Corps of Local Universe Personalities acting by authority of Gabriel of Salvington. (671 pages)
4) The life and teachingg of jesus: This group of papers was sponsored by a commission of twelve Urantia midwayers action under the supervision of a Melchizedek revelatory director. the basis of this narrative was supplied by a secondary midwayer who was onetime assigned to the superhuman watccare of the Apostle Andrew. (774 pages)

It basicly a Christian organization with new revelations so traditionalist would most likely think that they weren't true Christians. They don't have worship services but have study groups, but believe that you can interact with the powers that be by prayer.

So I can't say they actually whorship angels, but petition them yes.

Vagabound has been updated to inculde this text:

Hail, Petitioner of the Trials!
To honor his return, on this Wednesday the 9th, the
trials are closed.
Tomorrow you may return to continue, but tonite
is for joyful celebration!
~ROTH~

No idea what it means

"To honor his return, on this Wednesday the 9th, the trials are closed."

Offhand, I'd say it means, "You may as well take a little rest on the frantic activity tonight, because we're not giving you an updates. We'll be back open for business tomorrow."

Then again, ROTH is the red-herring guy, yes?

An email I recived indicated ROTH as the designer of the trials. I dont think that its a red-herring or any other clupeidae.

Well, then, he probably means it.

I wonder why it's capitalized. Think it stands for something?

This is an email I got this morning as another reply to my email from yesterday.

Quote:

You must forgive my stepson. He was not known for his cleverness, but
for some reason now seeks to win his Father's approval through his
creation of these trials. I have been expressly asked not to
intervene. So strong and brave, he has seemingly now found a passion
for learning. Strangely, it seems to coincide with an obsession with
your culture! I only hope his zeal does not overshadow the message he
is trying to convey. Sometimes he even reveals a touch of his uncle
in him, no matter how hard he tries to deny it. But he is a pure
soul, good of heart and spirit.

Follow his Trials. Make his father proud. Do this, as a favor for me.

I was thinking the entire vagabond's sojourn page was a misleader but since the main character updated it, I really don't think I was right anymore.
