Actually, vpisteve, could you transcribe the number columns on the front of your card, or one of them if they're all the same? They're a little hard to read from here.

EDIT: Put the sentence fragments together, sort of:

but cannot break the light of his truth

?

They are all the same, got them in an earlier post.

Embarassed Sorry.

Marrec wrote:
God has waited six thousand years for an observer. This is -part- of a quote by John Kepler, the full quote is as follows:

Johannes Kepler wrote:
It may well wait a century for a reader, as God has waited six thousand years for an observer.

No idea what it means, still looking.

Hmm.

"The die is cast; I have written my book; it will be read either in the present age or by posterity, it matters not which; it may well await a reader, since God has waited six thousand years for an interpreter of his words."

I wonder which version is correct. Or if he said it twice.

*heh* Both versions are correct, I just found the book which it was quoted in and editted my post to include other interesting things Kepler said in that paragraph, also related the context for the quote. The thing about taking the golden vases from egypt to build an alter to his God "far away from the confines of Egypt" are striking too.

Edit: Someone wanna make an IRC channel for this... I'm finding a mountain of information with all these cards.

More Bloody Edits: Where did you get your quotation from Phae? Its probaby just a different translation. *hmm*

Indeed.

Hmm. Egypt = ignorance, idolatry, enslavement?

All of which, taken together, can summarize a sort of blindness...

I sent an email to vsfaery asking about the design and theme of the cards, here is the reply:

Quote:
Hail and well met, seeker of the truth!

The harbingers were created in hope of their discovery by those who
have the insight to see beyond what is written. We care nothing for
the material gain that might be earned by such an endeavour, which is
why they are so plainly visible amongst other trifles in that bazaar.
If your spirit is so moved, the six we have presented may be acquired,
but be warned: the physical possession of a harbinger will not bestow
further insight into it's meaning.

Your compliments on my handiwork are most appreciated! May your
spirit find joy in the light of His truth, that which only the worthy
may behold.

..vs_faery..

I dunno. I don't think "observer" and "interpreter of his words" are synonymous in German.

But yes, perhaps it's irrelevant.

EDIT: Then again:

"...I am stealing the golden vessels of the Egyptians to build a tabernacle to my God from them, far far away from the boundaries of Egypt. If you forgive me, I shall rejoice.; if you are enraged with me, I shall bear it. See, I cast the die, and I write the book. Whether it is to be read by the people of the present or of the future makes no difference: let it await its reader for a hundred years, if God himself has stood ready for six thousand years for one to study him."

Translators' liberties, perhaps.

*laugh* Quite obviously I think... it seems some people have put more flair into Mr. Kepler's words then others would attribute him.

Either way, the message is still the same I believe. What exactly the message is though... hmm...

Edit: To answers Phae's question, his E-mail addy is on the back of the card.

More Edits: For those who aren't Philosophy majors, the quote on the third card is by Francis Bacon, a philosopher who was an strong advocate of the inductive method and was of the opinion that the only good knowledge any person could have is knowledge gleaned empirically from observing nature.

One More: Oh... and there are some people who claim that our guy Francis Bacon is the real author of the Shakespearean plays... *snort*

It's strange that VsFaery would use a quote from a man that was part of the scientific revolution that shattered the ealier held Aristotlian beliefs of science that the Catholic church tried so desperatly to protect. Hmm...

It wouldn't be the first time. <sigh>

Kepler believed that the insights he outlined in the Harmonice Mundi (in which he described how the same harmonies we find in music make up the geometrical principles by which the universe functions) deciphered G-d's plan. Most of the "insights," other than his Third Law, were mere ravings, but as far as the quote he's saying that G-d had to wait 6000 years (approximately the age of the world, if you're a biblical literalist -- 2005 is the Jewish year 5765-5766, which, if you're an Orthodox Jew, is also the age of the world -- literalist Christians use a different calculation, I believe: various readings can put it anywhere from 4000-7000 years, but the most common, as I understand it, put the creation at approximately 4000 years before the birth of Christ, so ~6000 years) for Kepler to come along and understand Him and His work (creation), so Kepler could wait a century or two for people to read his book.

Which means Kepler missed the obvious: G-d is immortal and so literally has all the time in the world -- 6000 years is no big deal. Kepler wasn't -- he'd be dead before people read his work, on the timeline he'd worked out. Unless he thought he'd discovered the secret to immortality, too. Shocked But oh well, details, details. Laughing

Actually, immortality...hm. Vpisteve's card had an apple tree drawn on it, no?

Word, the apple tree had nine apples with the bottom most apple being home to a cute little worm. Its situated above a sign that says 'truth' and perhaps, humorously, a rabbit hole.

Thinking Adam and Eve connection here, or something else?

Also, more random information from the cards. Card two also features a Rollei 35 camera which...

http://www.cameraquest.com/rol35se.htm wrote:
was truly revolutionary for its time when it was the smallest full frame 35 in the world. Never before had such quality construction with a sharp lens been combined in such a small package. The Rollei 35 family turned out to be fabulously successful, with over two million sold in its various guises.

In case anyone was wondering.

Okay so you know how the numbers missing from the card ARGN got were 1.1 and 2.4, well traditional Christian beliefs hold that the Genesis verses 1:1 through 2:4 are the so called "Creation of Earth and Heaven" verses. So we found on the IRC chan.

Also, just a thought, there are 18 pairs of letters on each card. Does anyone have a list of letters from the red, blurry card that I can compair notes with?
