Hm, I can't make the planets fly all over the place with Netscape (but I can with IE Smile ) So, I looked very closely at all the planets to make sure none of their orbits had the Copernican loops, and they don't (that was, arguably, one of Kepler greatest achivements - getting rid of those ellipses). Funny thing, though - Kepler didn't know there were 9 planets (but I can't remember how many were known to him).

Ahem, anyway: re: the number 3. There are 3 Kepler's laws of planetary motion that have been fundamental to astronomy since then:
I. The orbits of the planets are ellipses with the sun at one focus
II. A line from the planet to the sun sweeps over equal areas in equal intervals of time
III. A planet's orbital period squared is proportional to its average distance from the sun cubed.

Not sure how/if that's relevant... *shrug*

Re: [Speculation]

Marrec wrote:
What about this Nephilim? Anything interesting?

Well, as you'll see below, s/he didn't bite as far as that reference.

I threw it in because the Nephilim, despite the fact that the reference in Genesis is brief and uninformative on them: "the Nephilim were on the earth in those days," (and Nephilim is just a plural noun version of the verb naphal -- "to fall") have been the subject of a lot of folkloric speculation. Flash forward to Christian cosmology with detailed ideas of heaven and hell (which aren't really present in the Torah). When the Romans brought Christianity to the British Isles, the Celts reconciled their faeries with the idea of the fallen angels, the Nephilim, who hadn't fallen all the way to Hell. I believe the common explanation was that when Lucifer rebelled, some of the angels sided with G-d (and got to stay in heaven), some sided with Lucifer (and were cast into hell, becoming demons) and some refused to take sides (and were exiled to earth...in the Celtic imagination, becoming the faeries.

Well, that's what I thought -- APOCALYPSE WOW! -- but again, see the following response. Happy days are here again.

Don't worry, I was going to sacrifice my fragile little mind to scour Milton. Believe me, I hate Paradise Lost as much as the next person with cognative thought...

Good. Milton...bloody misogynist pig...<grumble grumble>

Speaking of names, tell me about yours.

To spec a little on the vs_faery, the number 3, and the picture of the shoe. The first time I looked at the shoe picture I noticed that the foot was getting ready to stomp on a symbol of intertwined triangles. And the name vs_faery reflects, in my opinion, someone against the occult/faery/wiccans.

Um...actually I think the "vs" stands for the website: Vagabond's Sojourn.

toongoon wrote:

Really? I'd never heard that. Where'd you read it?

From an occult site: "The nonogram is a nine pointed star, also called the Ninefold Goddess. In Norse myth, it unites the Nine Worlds. Itcan also be seen as the eternal connection of the 3 trinities: Maiden, Mother, Crone; Youth, Father, Wise Man; Mind, Body, Spirit.

Okay, but the three triangles aren't a star -- they're all pointing the same way. For that matter, the Baha'i use a nine-pointed star as their symbol.

It's good research, but somehow I don't think that's where this is going.

Quote:
It consists essential of three triangles, or three times three. Three is a very important number to the Celts."

Is vs_faery/the vagabond/sojorner crushing the faery types?

Maybe, but again, I think the "faery" thing may not be Celtic-specific, despite the spelling.

Quote:
As a more of a observer to ARGs I also found out that "Nonograms are logic puzzles that originate in Japan. A Nonogram consists of a series of numbers that can be used to determine a picture. The puzzle comes from building this picture from the numbers, but it's important to understand how the numbers were derived from the picture in order to complete the puzzle."

Hmm. Good job. That might be useful.

Return email to my questions:

vs_faery wrote:
Such curiosity is to be commended!

What names I go by in this strange, unreal place are but allegory.
Should I reveal myself, and spoil the journey for you? My name means
less than it should, but contains the entire truth.

The Him you speak of and the Him I serve are two very different
concepts entirely. I presume you speak of the Creator of your Book of
Genesis. While He whom I speak of is not your Creator, His feats and
deeds have given reason for worship from many. Forgive me if I lead
you into confusion, but He is worthy of such great platitudes, I
assure you! So far above any mere mortal is He!

He was one of the first, but He is not alone. His way is to teach and
to learn. He has been Wandering for millenia, and is known by many
names and many titles. He may tell more, when He returns. But that
is for Him to decide.

When He returns, it is difficult to say what will happen. There have
been times of great Joy. There have been times of great sorrow. Only
when He knows what needs knowing shall he return. We can do naught
but await, and serve.

Interesting. So we have a semi-deified figure, at least by vs_faery, (hence the capitalized "He"), that's been wandering for millennia, and needs to learn something in order to return.

Hmm. This is not ringing any particular mythological bell for me.

Anyone?

Oh, and also got this:

Quote:
Your spirit and curiosity are a blessing to you!

The place the harbingers speak of is where we await His return. But
we do not sit idle. Within each of ourselves, there is a deeper
mystery. Seek the mystery within, and you shall be made ready.

Is it just me, or is that web page not loading anymore? I'll check it out tomarrow at school, because it might juist be my connection, but thats the only page I can come up with that won't load on this thing...

Hmm. I got there fine, but the title of the page has changed:

"Because in drawing near its desire, our intellect ingulphs itself so far."

Hmm. Think it's...not Milton...

EDIT: Dante!

Paradiso wrote:
The glory of Him who moveth everything
Doth penetrate the universe, and shine
In one part more and in another less.

Within that heaven which most his light receives
Was I, and things beheld which to repeat
Nor knows, nor can, who from above descends;

Because in drawing near to its desire
Our intellect ingulphs itself so far,
That after it the memory cannot go.

Well, this is nice...it's from Paradiso. All upbeat and stuff, as opposed to the usual G-d Is Coming And S/He Is P*ssed warnings. Smile

Thank the fates its Dante and not Milton. *whew* Nothing else changed on the website, nothing in the source... maybe we did find the site too early. I'm not sure, I think that Faery is trying to tell me that we're missing something on the site with his E-mail though. *hmm* The usage of the word 'link' can't be casual.

Amen.

Although, actually, you should probably be thanking the PM(s). Razz

Probably not. I also wonder about the rhetoric in his/her last email to me:

Which sounds like some vague-new-age-self-help-twaddle, but considering that this is an ARG, and we're not supposed to "sit idle" there may be more to it.

But you haven't told me about your name.

Dingbats?

EDIT: They do indeed appear to be Dingbats (the original Wingdings, BTW, not Wingdings 2 or 3 Rolling Eyes ) except for the arrows (not the crossed arrow, just the others).

Translated into Roman characters, it maps to:

NE_I_
THERF
L_ES_
HN_OR
_FISH

with spaces left for the arrows, which do not correspond to a letter of the alphabet, or number.

Incidentally, the title of the page is "heywood jablome," which the Urban Dictionary lists as a name given to hide a person's true name.

Initial thoughts:

Why would you place each image as an individual on the page? It would be so much easier to just make one image and use that instead of making that table. *hmm*

Edit:

What link? I couldn't seem to find it. *feels silly*

The paradiso page has changed slightly, with a new title "Heywood was right".

NE_I_
TIER_
I_SE_
NO_R_
_LESH

I think I have those right, I can't find my glasses so maybe someone could check to see if I got the right symbols matched to the letters

Edited to add :Here are some quotes I found by Heywood C Broun

The average child is an almost non-existent myth. To be normal one must be peculiar in some way or another.

For truth there is no deadline.

"Except that right side up is best, there is not much to learn about holding a baby. There are one hundred and fifty-two distinctly different ways -- and all are right!"

Life is a copycat and can be bullied into following the master artist who bids it to come to heel.

"The tragedy of life is not that man loses, but that he almost wins."

Its John Heywood actually, your wingding translation was slightly off or you probably would have seen the begining of a very obvious proverb.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"Neither fish nor flesh" ...nor good red herring

The answer is "red herring", which is all this page appears to be. Unless of course it's hinting that Heywood is the red herring...but the page is red...my head hurts.
